Why Did Paul Swim

If St. Paul could do all things through Christ who strengthened him, why did he not simply walk across the sea after the shipwreck, instead of swimming all night clinging to a piece of wreckage?

james l, thank you. ALL credit goes to the Lord. i didn't expect this at all. i joined because i got tired of the free chat here. (it did get me to identify scammers right away.) being an almost 50 yr old with without money and with small children, i wasn't expecting much. the demographics were not in my favor. 99% of the women my age have just sent their kids off and want to ... (spend money)...understandably so. plus, a half date would send me way out of budget. i mingled for about a month and talked to some really good women but i could tell the above was confirmed. the day before i was going to quit that, my wife smiled at me...anyway j r n 13 at a t t period n e t. I will give you a call if youd like.

that's awesome, brother. I saw a while back that you got "mingled"

didn't know you hit it out of the park

I'm still waiting for one who doesn't love money, possessions and social status

Anybody ever wonder if swimming for Paul was a Miracle? Just as much of a miracle as Peter walking on water. Maybe Paul didn't know how to swim. After all, he was not a fisherman but a scholar. And many a good swimmer has drown in shipwrecks.
---kathr4453 on 7/28/14

BTW, been a while since we've hollered at each other. How have you been?

\\Many a Christian has drown believing he had the faith to walk on water.
---kathr4453 on 7/24/14\\

There's something else here.

It has to be God's WILL for you to walk on water.

Faith and prayer are not used to make God do our will, but to help us to move with HIM in His perfect will for us and others.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 7/26/14

Because those words were spoken to Peter alone directly from Jesus Christ. NO VERSE says that anyone who has enough faith can walk on water.

Many a Christian has drown believing he had the faith to walk on water.

\\Why did Jesus say no weapon formed against you will prosper. Was it a motivating lie? \\

No, but you tell them, Bryan.

This was never said by Jesus. It's NOWHERE in the Gospels.

\\how about john lake his quote the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the laws of sin and death,\\

That's in Paul, not John.

Please learn God's word properly and who said what, OK?

Glory to Jesus Christ!

"If was just about money. Why did Jesus say no weapon formed against you will prosper?....
"
---Bryan on 7/17/14

Your question is like asking "If cats climb trees, why does your car run on gasoline?

It doesn't even make sense.

It IS about money. Did you not read the verses I quoted? The context is clear. Don't butcher the word of God you claim to hold in high regard

And you have to ask "if" ???

Second, Isaiah 54 is about the FUTURE of Israel. What kind of weapons do you see in Philippians 4 ??

There aren't any. Because Paul was talking about MONEY
---James_L on 7/17/14

If was just about money. Why did Jesus say no weapon formed against you will prosper. Was it a motivating lie? And how is it Peter walked on water. what about the boy who fell out the windows and died and Paul just laid on him and he came back alive? That's not counting about all the testimonies passes history when miracles happened. The world is full of times when men and women should have died how about john lake his quote the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the laws of sin and death, missionary during the bubonic plague it would dry up an blowing In his hand. Why? How?
---Bryan on 7/17/14

Forgive me I can't resist some tongue-in-cheek humor here but it seems so obvious: Paul swam 'cause he didn't want to drown! :D
---Mary on 7/17/14

I think we must remember that all the miracles in the Bible were intended to further the Kingdom of God and promote the love and power of God through Jesus. The most important thing they are for is to further people accepting Christ as Savior. Being able to do all things through Christ doesn't mean we'll go around doing miracles to please ourselves and to only help us without any reflection on the Kingdom and teaching Jesus saves. It means God will give us strength in all situations to overcome and serve Him,showing forth the Glory of God in our lives in the name of Jesus. The bottom line we are still human and the pattern set up for men is the one we are subject to unless it promotes the Kingdom to do otherwise. God Bless

I would say that JESUS is the perfect embodiment of GOD.

Yet at the same time He is a man. The Bible tells us about GOD and his relationships with previous Humans who have walked the earth.

Since the Bible records their mistakes and failings I cannot say JESUS is the perfect picture of the Bible since He never sinned.

The Bible is the rule by which we separate the lies of Satan from the truths of GOD.

JESUS shows us what GOD is like. A loving caring and Daddy figure.

Back at you, Bryan.

Do you think "the Word was made flesh" means that Jesus is the perfect embodiment of everything in the Bible?

Please answer yes or no.

I noticed, btw, that you didn't answer the questions I asked you about things you claimed are in the Bible, but are not. Why?

Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
-Bryan, either Cluny thinks you are Satan, or he thinks God loves you enough to chasten you. I would give him the benefit of the doubt and go with the latter.

John the apostles said the word was made flesh. Go find it yourself cluny. You seem to have most of it to fit your religion did you mark that out of your bible? Just like Jesus said some seed falls by the way side or even worse you walk on it yourself. So when things are not go right don't blame God. Your the one who doubts his word. He watches over it to make sure it gets done. Life or death.

Bry,an, please tell me where the Bible says these things:

1. Blood of the word.

2. Jesus stopped being God.

3. St. Paul was stoned to death.

4. The words is written on the wings of eagles. Also tell us which prophet said this.

ALL of these things you have claimed are in the Bible.

So give book, chapter, and verse for them.

If you can't, admit you were not being truthful.

//f they said anything different. Sure doesn't sound like times have changed too much. Religion's are still trying to tell people what they can and cannot believe about the Word of God.//

Dear Bryan,
Do you not see how ridiculous you sound when you speak about religion? Here you are teaching your religion trying to tell people what they can and cannot believe. This is you with your own religion your are preaching, that Paul was stoned. And when Paul was sick, why didn't he cure himself? When he had the thorn in the flesh, why didn't he use his power to get rid of it? So what your religion teaches is that you can do all things but Paul couldn't. That is some religion you teach Bryan.
---Luke on 7/12/14

cluny your ship has recked. Your on the Titanic and you refused to get in the lifeboat. Religion's used to say the world was flat and they would kick anybody out of the club if they said anything different. Sure doesn't sound like times have changed too much. Religion's are still trying to tell people what they can and cannot believe about the Word of God. If Jesus walked up to you an said it is given for you to know the Mysteries of the kingdom of heaven would you believe him. It really doesn't matter if you believe him or not he said it. Your belief only stops you not him.
---Bryan on 7/11/14

The answer to the question is faith. Sometimes our faith is strong, sometimes it is weak.

But, as Jesus said, christians can do greater miracles than he can.

When Paul said he could do all things through Christ, it was in the context of money.

The church at Philippi had already given to him. This is the "good work" that God began in them, which would be carried to completion (1:5-6)

Paul was essentially telling them that whether or not they were able to give, he would find his contentment in Christ.

this is not an enchantment to win football games, or lift heavy boulders, or perform a tracheotomy.

Mark excellent point Apostle Paul was just saying to us no matter what Satan throws at you. The word gives you the power to over come. So the point again is I can do all things, not because of me but because of Christ in me. If you need to go under water to save people then there would by grace for it. If your ship is sinking and you happen to have a apostle of Jesus on your ship and he tell you what to do if you want to life you best do it.

** Or what about the time he was stoned to death. Why didn't Paul just stay dead.**

As Jesus demonstrated, only God has the volition of will to walk on water Cluny. I believe if the Lord had purposed for Paul to walk on the water, he would've empowered him to do so. Perhaps, that's why Paul later wrote, "That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Cor. 12:10, NIV)
---Leon on 7/10/14

"He forgot he could of walked" oh let's not forget when he was looking for sticks to put in the fire. The snake that sunk it teeth into him, he just shook it off in the fire? Or what about the time he was stoned to death. Why didn't Paul just stay dead. That way he would have to put up with all this unbelief. Oh Jesus should have said only stoned and snake bit I heal, oh wait John was boil in oil but he did not burn, those are the only 3 thing you can do through Christ who some times heals you? Is that the way you Orthodox religion believes cluny? That you have the right to mock other believers? Your church name, st mocking orthodox. That would be a religion running on fumes

If St. Paul could do all things through Christ who strengthened him...
---Cluny on 7/10/14

I suppose I prompted this question so I will answer.

Philippians 4:13 talks more about a state of being that about a way of doing things.

The context includes verse 11 which states "I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am". I believe the single thought contained in verses 11-13 is "whatever comes my way I can handle it by the strength God gives me".

This understanding of the verse is TOTALLY different from believing the thought of the verse is "all things are possible because Christ gives me strength" or "I can do anything I want because Christ is my strength".
---Mark_Eaton on 7/10/14

God did not afford him the luxury. Maybe part of that thorn in the flesh?
Maybe to help maintain a good level of humility?
2Co 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Also, "all things", to my understanding, is all things Christ has for me in my life through Him.
I can suffer persecution. I can rejoice. I can draw closer to Him. I can resist temptation.
I can also restrain myself through Christ who strengthens me.
I can flee evil. I can also come boldly before the throne of grace.
Christ said when you know the Truth it will set you free.
