But, then how would one understand the other side? Paul/Saul example.Trav

Travis
Teaching Paul, without using the Gospels of Jesus Christ as a foundation, is like trying to teach Algebra before Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.

When people challenge me with their false beliefs, because my doctrine is built on a solid foundation, I can use the clearly written teachings of Jesus Christ to show them, their teachings are not of Christ.

I do this to reveal to them the teachings of the anti-Christ, those teachings which produce the Tare (Matthew 13:24-30)KJV. The teachings of the Anti-Christ have done exactly as planned, they have caused the separation in the Church.

For most/me twice as hard to un-learn error as to learn correctly the first time.
But, then how would one understand the other side? Paul/Saul example.
It is those scriptures avoided by almost all Christian denom's and preachers that witness much.
Witness by avoidance is no less witness than witness by promotion. For instance, ask anyone on the street who was/is the New Covenant too? They typically have no idea. Show them and we see a form of the "division" Christ spoke of. Even family. Heb 8:8-10/Jer 31:31-33/Rom 9:4.../ 275 times covenant/s found.

Hey, I thank GOD for Thomas. I'm him first-Trav

Travis
Absolutely, and a very good point. It was the doubt that kept me on the fence, the doubt which caused me to seek out the Truth, even though I was an unbeliever.

Then God planted his seed, I followed, and all doubt was removed. In my walk, God taught me how to love. First came a love for God, then a love for mankind. A love that was not there before I started my walk.

It's been easy for me to except the Gospel of Jesus Christ as written, because my experience preceded my Bible knowledge. And that experience has been what Jesus taught. An experience I wish all those who have trusted the teachings of men, could experience for themselves.

True enough, Bible Gateway is a blessing. And like you, I use it to find multiple witnesses too.

It amazes me that folks who say they believe Jesus is the Son of God, say they believe enough to be saved, when those who walked with Jesus and saw all those miracles didn't even believe it.

I'm still trying to figure out how folks believe they can come to an instant belief, a belief that comes before a relationship with God, when Judas and Peter (Denied Jesus 3X's) didn't have a faith that could save them, after they had a relationship with Jesus.
---David on 11/9/14

David, what is most amazing is that there was two disciples who betrayed Jesus. Both did miracles, both walked with Christ for three years. Both heard the words the Jesus was teaching, both saw the miracles, yet one went to heaven and the other to hell. Peter betrayed Jesus but he repented and died for Christ on the cross upside down. Judas hanged himself and even that was not good enough, the limb broke and he fell and busted open. And at this time, many call their own boys Peter, but no one calls their boys Judas, not even their dogs.

Acts 26:17-19
Jesus talking to Paul says,

17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:

Luke, here shows you are WRONG. The Lord NEVER made any mention of Paul being sent to the ELECT only, but was sent to ALL to TURN from SATAN to God. If perhaps YOU understood this, which you don't, you will see that SATAN has blinded eyes, not God.
---kathr4453 on 11/9/14

What Luke and Calvinists don't understand OR SEE is that before one can SEE, as they claim only they can "SEE" is that before they could SEE anything, they TOO had to turn from SATAN and Darkness to God. No one is born again FIRST while still in darkness and belonging to SATAN. The Holy Spirit that convicts of SIN is not IN YOU first, but UPON you first. And the Holy Spirit CAN be resisted as scripture shows.
They falsely teach God gave them the ability to SEE, being born again first so that they could repent. The preaching of the Gospel is what opens ones eyes. Paul was sent to preach the GOSPEL to TURN them from Satan to God, SO THAT they could receive the inheritance of the promise of the Holy Spirit.

Amazing, isn't it? All those miracles Judas saw Jesus perform, and he still betrayed him.
Have you ever noticed a difference between reading an internet Bible, and a Bible in hand?

Amazing for sure. Representing Judah though, he did as he believed. Who can believe after 2014 years they are still anti-christ-ian. But, then just because some themselves a scriptural name, doesn't make it so, either. Would be the biggest con job ever pulled on Christians.

Yes, I have noticed a difference, same as yours. Seldom read an online Bible, probably reason you noted!

Amazing, isn't it? All those miracles Judas saw Jesus perform, and he still betrayed him.

I have Bible Gateway, and it saves me hours of time when I do a Word search. I remember years ago, when I started being taught by the Holy Spirit, when I was only using Bible in hand. I was overwhelmed and couldn't keep up. Then one day I found Bible gateway, and now I can keep up.

Have you ever noticed a difference between reading an internet Bible, and a Bible in hand?
I ask because when I am reading a Bible in hand, the power of the Holy Spirit is overwhelming, as he teaches me. But when I read an internet Bible, I'm all alone, and it's just me and the Bible.

No one can turn another person to Christ. Just not possible. Only God (the Holy Spirit) can turn sinners to Christ. No one can do the work that God does. No one, no matter how many people believe they can.
Who can change a heart? God.
Who can open the eyes of the sinners? God.
Who can open the ears of the sinners? God.
Who can love the Lord with his own power? No one. "We love Him because He first loved us"

My love for man, especially those whom we call believers, prevents me from believing the wisdom written in (2 Peter 2:18-22).

I teach them the Gospels of Christ, and by doing what Christ taught, they see their relationship with God is improving. Showing them the promises brought to us by Jesus Christ, are the Truth, and then as Peter said, they go right back to their vomit, and mud.

My question to you is, Have you ever turned anyone from going back to the false doctrines,(vomit and mud)? In Peters words I see a hope for them to escape, But have yet to find it.

Like fishermen, who listens to me or you?-Trav

Travis
You and I teach the Truth, the Truth written in the Gospels of Jesus Christ. The Truth can be proven, a lie can not.

Many believers I meet oppose what Jesus and I say, that obedience leads to a loving relationship with God (John 14:21). But I don't argue it, I prove it.

We must challenge them to do as their Godly conscience commands them. Whether it is not to do evil, or to give aid to someone in need. Then, when they are glaringly rewarded by God for their obedience, they will know the teachings of Jesus Christ are the Truth.

This is easy for me to do in person, but very difficult to gain trust, with those whom I have never met.
---David on 11/5/14

John 14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me." Hardly can one call Jesus's audience as 'fallen', being that they believed in God.
Same scenario in the account of Cornelious, Acts 10:2 "A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway." An angel of God told him in a vision, "Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God." Again, hardly can Cornelious be called 'lost' or 'fallen'. Rather Cornelious is as the man Jesus describes in Luke 8:15 "...they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience."

David, you cannot get fallen man to follow Christ. They don't believe in Him, why should they follow someone they don't believe in? The lost are at enmity against God.
They can know the whole Bible but that does not make them save.

From our infancy we are taught to seek the Truth, in those we believe have more knowledge in a subject than we do.

If we want to learn Science or Math, we seek out those who have been educated in Science and Math.
When folks seek God, they naturally seek out those men, educated by men, about God. And like me, eventually fail in their quest unless they seek their education, from God.

Jesus was a carpenter and his disciples were fisherman. In the church today, how many folks would follow men with these credentials?

How can we get folks to follow what Jesus taught, versus what their teachers say, Jesus taught? How do we get folks to do, what Jesus taught in the Gospels, so they will come to know the Truth?

I had the same eye opening experience, with clearly written passages, spoken by Jesus Christ. It happened when I was 41, and the midlife crisis hit me like a ton of bricks, the night of my 41st birthday.

I was 24 when I came to actually believe in God, but I didn't understand the relationship aspect with Christ.

As a child, I was taught Salvation was the reason for this relationship. But the night of my 41st birthday, I was seeking a relationship with God, for another reason.

I could find no reason to go on and there was nothing in this world, which made me want to stay. But that night, God gave me a reason, and it wasn't salvation.

Could this refer not to the amount of faith, but its quality?--Cluny

Exactly! The Mustard seed Jesus is talking about is Faith, and if it does not grow, it will not produce a faith which will save you.

The Protestant faith, of which I was raised, never taught me how to make that faith grow. It taught me to love, but never, how to love.
Gods changing of the Heart, is the key to Salvation.

(1 Peter 1:22-23) Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren....

It was my obedience to Jesus Christ which caused my hate, to turn to love. And I will be saved because I have come to love.

Salvation is of God through His Son, just believe.
John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name.
1Jo 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

David it as nothing to do with believing enough, or doing enough but believing the right thing.

God couldn't have kept that promise, if he allowed Isaac or Abram to die.
How did Abraham come to have a faith, Abram didn't?

---David on 10/30/14

Abram DID and his name was changed to Abraham. That was when God promised him a son and Abraham believed and through that FIRST promise God imputed righteousness unto Abraham. Now what James is teaching from James 1 that our faith, that is those already saved...our faith is TESTED for the purpose of bringing us to maturity.

Abraham's faith was in the promise of Genesis 3:15, just as Abel's was, who was an heir of righteousness, yet didn't live long enough to have his faith tested. Yet his obedience of faith in the coming Messiah still speaks.

Kathryn
Abraham was able to offer up the life of Isaac, because he believed in the promise God made in (Genesis 17:19).
How did Abraham come to have a faith in God, Abram did not have in that same promise, in (Genesis 12:10-13), when he feared for his own life?

God couldn't have kept that promise, if he allowed Isaac or Abram to die.

David, no one ever said faith does not require obedience to the very thing one is putting their faith in. James uses the words works, while Paul uses the word obedience of faith. It's called the LAW of Faith. But MY FAITH, not the WOF doctrine, is based on the Word of God and God first speaking to me. Abraham did not FAITH Sarah into becoming Pregnant, nor did Abraham just decide on his own one day and say..."GEE, I think I'll sacrifice Isaac today"... Noah built the ark because God first spoke to him and told his to.

When is the last time God asked YOU to do something beyond your human ability? When that happens, and you have to rely totally on the Power of God to bring it to pass...THEN we'll talk about REAL FAITH.
---kathr4453 on 10/29/14

Kathryn
In (James 2), James wrote about two kinds of faith. One with, and one without deeds. The one without deeds he called worthless.
The question is, why?

It's because a faith without deeds, doesn't grow, and a faith with deeds, does.
Abrams faith was like a mustard seed, and he became Abraham, a man of great faith, because that seed grew. (Luke 13:19)

What caused his faith to grow? Would it have grown if he never left his homeland, if he didn't do what God commanded him to do?

//Those who oppose Calvinism believe no one deserves to be saved. But that GOD is love and saves all those who answer the call of GOD. John 3:16//

Samuel, what you just said is what we believe as reformers. No one deserves salvation. God is love and God does save those who call on the Lord. You see everyone is guilty, no one deserves salvation. And those who answer the call of God and are saved are those who already believe in the Lord, who have been granted faith and repentance. So again you are wrong. We sure do not oppose those things you say we do. Plus, what you said is not what you believe. You believe a lost person can come to Christ on his own free will, and that is not possible. They have no faith. God has to grant them faith.

I cannot find one instance where that mercy was denied. BUT the one asking certainly had to have FAITH in the one who had the power to give that Mercy. So David, this is FAITH. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Yes Calvinists believe that GOD has chosen for us who will burn in hell for all eternity men, women, children and babies will be there because GOD chooses to place them there.

Those who oppose Calvinism believe no one deserves to be saved. But that GOD is love and saves all those who answer the call of GOD. John 3:16

//The verse is in context to the whole of Romans 9-11. No other scriptures in all the Word of God supports the Calvinists view of select salvation.//

Kathr, I don't know what Bible you are reading. First, no one deserves salvation. God's word says,
"Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestine us to adoption as sons of Jesus Christ to Himself, (hear this) "according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved" Eph. 1:4-6.
Paul speaking to believers, the saints who are in Ephesus, that means all of us who have faith in Christ.

Good point!! Both men betrayed Jesus, but only one was shown mercy. The question is, why?

Yes David..the OBEDIENCE of Faith.-kathr4453

Kathryn
Paul taught that we are saved by Grace, through faith.
Now if it is through faith, that faith of which Paul speaks, has value.
If it didn't have value, how could we be saved through it?

Which faith has value according to James, a faith with or without deeds? James answer to the question..(James 2:14-26)

There are objects of wrath and objects of mercy and examples both ways as Paul teaches in Romans. Jesus says that it rains upon the righteous and unrighteous alike. Another Bible verse tells us that now while we live as a time of the Lord's favor. Judas betrayed Jesus. Peter disowned Jesus. Peter is forgiven. Judas suffers in the aftermath.

Only GOD can connect two sticks back together again.

Eze 37:20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.
Eze 37:22 I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel, one king shall be king to them all: they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:

The Passover is a perfect example of God's mercy. Israel obeyed Moses instructions he got from The Lord to put blood over the doorpost the night the Angle of Death passed over. We all know the story and outcome. Again this exact thing happened again when Joshua told Rahab to put a scarlet thread on her home, and they would be spared ..the scarlet thread representing the Blood..representing the Passover. AND again Jesus shed His own blood, who is our very Passover. And we see again in Revelation those who overcame by the Blood of the Lamb.

Yes David..the OBEDIENCE of Faith.
---kathr4453 on 10/27/14

Of course God has what you call favorites. He chose the nation of Israel over all other nations. Now that is a favorite. The plan of God includes favorites, or else how would the Father planned for His Son to come through the nation of Israel? The plan of God was done before the foundation of the world.
The reason God kept helping them every time they went back to their idols. Many times He left them to as slaves. To then take them out of slavery again and again. All other nations received the wrath of God, for the survival of Israel and Jesus did come through them, yet they killed Him, and to this day the nation is still lost.

I was discussing this matter with Kathryn on another blog, and she made me realize something about folks who do not believe obedience to God plays a role in their salvation.

Kathryn made me realize they believe mercy is being pardoned, and not having compassion upon their neighbor, and God having compassion on us. This line of discussion could be another way of showing them, obedience to God does play a role in our salvation.

In (James 2:13-18) we see again where Mercy is taught as an act of compassion, and where faith and works are also thrown into the mix. I find it to be an interesting study.

My apologies for not spending much time on my question, I was in the North Georgia Mountains with limited internet.

Yes God does all things according to His promises, and covenants.

Firstly, remember God said to Abraham, I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you. So from this promise comes God's everlasting mercy to His Chosen people. The Pharaoh that cursed Israel brought a curse upon themselves, and by their actions against Israel God makes known to the whole world Israel is God's chosen people.

The first Pharaoh 400 years prior was BLESSED, because they Blessed Joseph. Again God reiterating His promises to Abraham concerning Israel. This promise and curse will be seen again in the last days for all who come against Israel. Zechariah 12-14. And that is the WHOLE POINT OF ROMANS 9-11.

We get into trouble when isolating a verse, and then building a theology around it. The Calvinists have so abused this verse, never reading ALL of Romans 9-11 to see what Paul was teaching and showing. The verse is in context to the whole of Romans 9-11. No other scriptures in all the Word of God supports the Calvinists view of select salvation. Blessings and cursing concerning God's chosen people and how the gentile world treats them is the subject here , not SALVATION. ......as we see, not ALL Israel who came out of Egypt even entered the promise land in the first place...a "type" of salvation.

The blood of Jesus Christ was shed and placed on the Mercy seat in heaven once and for all, for ANYONE WHO SEEKS TO FIND MERCY.

Learner2: God has conditional favourites.
Anyone who desires His will & actually lives on it shall be His favourite.
If His favourite steps out of His will without accepting His correction over a period (determined by Him) , such will lose his/her favorite status.

David,
//"I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and compassion on whom I will have Compassion."//

From my little knowledge of God, HE does all things based on HIS words, promises, purpose & reason.
But while our human outlook is very limited to a short period of time, God's outlook cover a wide range of time.
Thus we may wonder why God is favouring someone who in our view does not deserve it while God may be fulfilling a promise made to the person's ancestors.
HIS acts (compassion or punishment) are not baseless.

The question was asked after reading the story of the good Samaritan. Where I noticed in the story, the Lord used a compassionate act as his example of mercy.

And then we read again where mercy and compassion are linked together, when God said, "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and compassion on whom I will have Compassion."

//What did God mean when he said, "I will have mercy on who I will have mercy, and compassion on who I will have compassion"?//

David, in the context, the mighty act of God freeing Israel from the hand of Pharaoh demonstrated two corollary truths, both Moses and pharaoh were wicked sinners, even murderers and were equally worthy of God's wrath and eternal punishment, but Moses received mercy while Pharaoh received God's judgment, because that was God's sovereign will (Rom. 11:7: Josh. 11:18-20: 1 Thess. 5:9: 2 Peter 2:12).
God has to right to have mercy on whom He wills to have mercy on, and He has the right to bring judgment on whom He wills to bring judgment to, for there is no one innocent.

God really has no fixed favourites.
1) Anyone can become God's favourite through obedience & dependence on God.
2) God's favourite today can lose that status tomorrow if he/she misbehaves & refuses correction.
3) God's past promises or prophecies can help a person to become His favourite if the terms and conditions are not violated.
