Cluny: Personally, I like the KJV of 1611, though the reason is a personal one more than a theological one.

The first is that in the NT, it is grammatically more similar to the Greek (as is the RSV, which is derived from the KJV) that the other one I like the NIV.

But my liking for the older version is personal for the following reason.

I like older tests because with them I am forced to read slowly and carefully, and this means I actually understand more, as I take longer and pay more attention. When I read the NIV I pay less attention. Though this is my fault, not a problem with the trainslation

Cluny wrote: "How can people evaluate a movie that has not yet been released?"

By the trailers.

Besides, Hollywood is not known to create movies that are biblically sound and are accepted by true christians.

Furthermore, the bibles says to stay away from even the
"appearance" of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22 ).

Cluny:

You asked: How can people evaluate a movie that has not yet been released?

Very easily. People constantly have strong opinions about things they know nothing about.

\\ Stick with only the KJV bible.\\

Why?

Which recension? The one of 1904 by ABS normalized according to American spellings?

The British recension of 1769 (NOT the same as the ERV of 1881)?

The original of 1611, which differs in m many places from the fair copy delivered to the printer (and since lost)?

With or without Apocrypha?

Cambridge or Oxford exemplar?

Please specify.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Stephen, I don't always agree with you but I agree about the kingjames bible and movies. I don't usually watch movies from Hollywood especially ones that use the bible. They don't know the bible especially discovery channel. I watch that at times just to see what they say. It disgust me. I don't plan to watch anything Hollywood.

Leon....Type in Roma Downey in any search engine and you will find thousands of sites. Add John Edwards the psychic to your search criteria and you will find numerous articles regarding her channeling session with him which was on television.

I have been reading, here and there, what "American" Catholics can be doing while claiming to be under the authority of the Vatican.

I suppose someone could be "even" New Age and still think he or she is Roman Catholic.

So, I would need to let Roma speak for herself (c: and see if what she says is a match with official Roman Catholic things.

And, even then, may be officially you can differ from official things and still be considered by the Roman Catholic Church to be a Catholic, but encouraged to conform. I think I've been told something like this.

But prayer can do more than my analyzing!!

Do not go to ANY movie or read ANY book claiming anything having to do with christianity. Stick with only the KJV bible.

1 Timothy 1:4
1 Timothy 4:7
2 Timothy 4:4
Titus 1:14
2 Peter 1:16

Also, do not use concordances, other christian reference books, and authors who claiming they have the true knowledge (especially when profiting from God's word). As the words of God says 'use the bible as its own reference.' Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you to understanding.

KarenD: Can you give us a "for instance" source of your research regarding Roma Downey. Thx.
---Leon on 2/11/15

My research shows that Roma Downey is a New Age proponent. There was never any repentance and she continues to speak for New Age beliefs. Although she says she is Catholic I am sure channeling is not a Catholic practice.

"My minimal research says that the movie AD is about the spread of Christianity after the Resurrection, Ascension, and Pentecost.

As far as Roma Downey consulting a psychic, some people seem to think there is no room for repentance from some sins.

In any case I will probably not see the movie"

Well said, Cluny. My feelings exactly.

In any case I will probably not see the movie as I don't have the money and for reasons mentioned earlier in this thread.

Very often these days, new age or science fiction (any alternative way of thinking) can provide 'food for thought' views about what is true, so don't be hasty to classify everything as subversive.

Many thing have been taught that are FAULTY and incomplete (we must be willing in this generation to search for the UNADULTERATED truth).

New understandings are being given to this generation and we must be ready to consider the validity of new concepts and attitudes.

Many things were taught wrong and we need to take a fresh look at scripture OURSELVES because the clergy does not have the desire to teach us the unadulterated truth.

For instance, the Jews are NOT the role model we think they are.....

Jer 3:8 She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce, yet her false sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the harlot.

Exo 16:20 But they did not listen to Moses, some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and became foul, and Moses was angry with them.

If the movie is about channeling and talking with the dead...it's fiction and belongs in the group of "walking dead" that's popular today !
Certainly not spiritual!
---1stcliff on 2/7/15

Would the fact that Roma Downey appeared with John Edwards the psychic to channel her dead mother influence your decision about seeing the movie? I know I will not be seeing it,
---KarenD on 2/7/15

Last I heard, Roma Downey was a Roman Catholic.

I don't expect sound theology or church history from Hollywood or TV, especially the supposedly Christian channels.

Have you actually seen the movie, or are you just reacting to it?

Here we go, again, on another religious witch hunt: determining a person's guilt by association. By asking you indicate you're not sure.

Roma Downey & her husband Mark Burnett are Catholic. It's true she attended the University of Santa Monica, a private graduate school founded by New Age spiritual & self-help guru John-Roger, & graduated with a masters degree in spiritual psychology. However, that doesn't make her no more New Age than your attending public school & a wide variety of colleges/universities in America makes you a secular-humanist KarenD.

I haven't seen the movie.
---Leon on 2/7/15

I have not seen it. I probably will enjoy for 2 reasons. The early church story has not been well created visually and I like Acts.
As far as new age that needs to be defined more. But I believe that their is a lot of room and freedom for artistic vision to present the major doctrinal themes of the Bible.
