Paul clearly says we have "weapons of our warfare".
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled." (2 Corinthians 10:4-6)
So, our weapons and warfare are "in God" . . . in His love (Romans 5:5) which, also, "casts out fear, because fear involves torment" (in 1 John 4:18). So, our weapons are of God's love with almighty power to cast out fear and its torments of personality.

We are supposed to be the CONGREGATION/community of God that all reside spiritually inside the body of His firstborn son (the BEGOTTEN Son). We are BRETHREN/brothers of the "FIRSTBORN" Son (if we so choose to be instead of being slaves/servants of a MASTER.
So DECIDE if you rather have the Creator as "Abba Father" instead of being part of an "army" that serves Him (like the Jews condescendingly 'assisted' God in achieving DIVINE actions).
It is YOUR CHOICE to be a brother of Jesus. You are free to remain a "son of" PERDITION.

Ephesians 6:12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
I'd say that WE (truly born-again Christians) are the army of God on this earth and there is a spiritual army also - the angels who remain in Heaven with God. We will struggle with, an fight against, evil until Christ comes again.
Very good question Donna.

The armour of God is the bible. We should be memorizing the bible. (I didn't memorize very much). When we are ask a question about the bible, we should know enough to answer them. Armour is something that protects us against the arrows of satan......the bible
---shira4368 on 5/12/15|
The word "armor" should be understood in a FIGURATIVE sense. Spirituality and devotion are not derived from the LITERAL ("spiritual not literal"). "Armor" REFERS to a PROTECTIVE SHIELD.
Jesus "fulfilled all righteousness" by telling the JEWS what was RIGHT for THEM to know and do, so He told them to be an army of servants/slaves acting together to achieve the goal (THAT WAS THEN, this is now).
The "army" referred to in the verse was a LITERAL army that was unified to achieve one goal.
We were meant to be SONS of The Father and BROTHERS of His firstborn son (the BEGOTTEN Son of The Father).

The most common (actually UNIVERSAL) mistake we make in trying to understand scripture is that we tend to be "LITERAL" as though God and spirituality is the same as HUMAN understanding (LITERAL instead of spiritual).
Our Jesus "faith" has the ORIGIN of Jewish belief, but is no longer OF Judaism. The Jews were told that in order to be a GENUINE Jew, each individual by themselves would have to be one INWARDLY (from the heart AND MIND....HAVING A spirit of heavenliness).
Rom 2:29 He is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart, spiritual and not literal.
Verse is from the RSV.

Faithforfaith - I put down joel 2:11 not to take a shot at you, Although this was in your writing about army of God, I thought it was a verse, At topic at hand, that should be put down, and look people could look at, If this offend you am sorry, Probably should of wrote something down to go with it, You were looking it from a human aspect, I realize that, And that God is in control,
---RichardC on 5/9/15|
We are told to put on "armor", so yes we are soldiers (c: And, since angels have fought against Satan, I would say they are in this army. And Jesus is our Head.
And Paul says, "No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier." (2 Timothy 2:4)
So, Jesus has enlisted us, and we need to not get tangled in things of this life. Our attention needs to stay with Jesus and how God leads us, and walk in His victory >
"Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place." (2 Corinthians 2:14)

What makes you think, Richard c that the "army" that is referred to is HUMAN instead of God's ANGELS?. We have the bad habit of being narcissistic and self-centered (the "army" is not about US). We (humanity) have always made scripture and spiritual things ABOUT US (spiritual understanding is about THE DIVINE). If you will choose not to understand the things that I write (yes, accepting truth is a choice), then there simply is no point to being given the explanation (you simply have not set your heart and mind to "LOVE the truth, 2 Thess. 2:6..."LOVE the truth and SO BE SAVED". Either you have the mind of "FATHER" and the BEGOTTEN SON (that brought His heavenly Spirit), or YOU DON'T (your choice).

Joel 2:11 - And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army : for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord its Great and very terrible: and who can abide it,

We need to understand that we have been taught many BAD ATTITUDES toward God. We cannot achieve EQUALITY with Him and BE WORTHY.
Phl 2:6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
God is completely self sufficient and fully capable of carrying out His will/intentions without our assistance (it is VERY ARROGANT and condescending to think otherwise). Yet we "PRAY" (perhaps we feel He needs our suggestions, advice, ideas, encouragement, comments, constructive criticism, approval, etc.).
God is not NEEDY (nor should we second-guess Him or disapprove.
Act 17:25 as though he needed anything
God needs no army, servants, helpers, or input from us.

God predestined everyone who will conform to the IMAGE of His BEGOTTEN (who was BORN FIRST) so that His FIRSTBORN will have many BROTHERS/"brethren".
Rom 8:29 he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
We are to the "firstfruits" and have a divine/heavenly Spirit so that we can be adopted as SONS as we await redemption (but since this is the age of ETERNITY, we are sons RIGHT NOW (IN JESUS, there is no division of TIME)
Rom 8:23 have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
---faithforfaith on 5/6/15|
God has no "army" in His covenant of The Lamb.
We were ADOPTED to be SONS OF the Father and BROTHERS/"brethren" of His "FIRSTBORN" Son (the Lamb of God is the "Prince of Peace" in Isaiah 9:18...the "Wonderful Counselor"/Holy Spirit was provided by the Father THROUGH the coming of the Prince of Peace).
The book of Revelations was written to and for the JEWS/servants (Rev. 1).
Revelations was for those who had TWO witnesses, WE Spirit-filled Jesus worshipers HAVE THREE (and they agree, 1 John 5:8).
The living water that we are supposed to have flowing from our heart and mind (soul) flowed from Jesus's side at the cross.
We are SONS of the most high.

We are to put on the whole Armor of GOD because we are in the Battle. Ephesians 6.
We are working with the Angels and with the Holy Spirit.
Rock of ages cleft for me.

\\Do we pray in the Spirit and angels come and do battle against evil forces for us? Or when we pray in the Spirit, are we doing the battling ourselves I guess is my question.\\
The answer to your either/or question is Yes!
We're all on the same side.
Christ is risen!

Leon, thank you. I get that scripture but it isn't telling us to FIGHT the devil himself...I understand we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spirits and principalities. Do we pray in the Spirit and angels come and do battle against evil forces for us? Or when we pray in the Spirit, are we doing the battling ourselves I guess is my question. Thank you.

The Full Armor of God:
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS," Eph. 6:12-14
