these such problems are to be dealt with through prayer and fasting....

I pray daily and fast sporadically.

I come from the background that said you can make God listen if you pray and fast long enough. Like the widow did in Luke 18.

But when my breakthrough did not happen, I felt it was my fault for not continuing long enough.

Then I found out there are three answers to my prayers instead of two. The three answers are Yes, No, and WAIT.

I was ignoring the "wait" answer. I felt the situation needed resolved in my time. What I needed was to hand the situation over to God and let Him resolve it in His time.

How about this one, Darlene?

"I asked God to help me remove a mountain, and He said, 'Sure," and handed me a shovel."

Christ is risen!

Darlene, I like that one.

My dad was a Mess hall cook and had a big sign stating
'All you can eat'

When a Soldier came up for 2nd's my dad asked him what he was doing?
The Soldier pointed to the sign and said "It states all you can eat."

My dad answered "THAT IS all you can eat. Get out."

I told him that was mean, but he states people shouldn't assume anything but what you have at the moment.

Someone once said, "Pray as if it all depended upon God. Then work as if it all depended upon you."

Christ is risen!

Actually Isaiah 58:3-9 gives us more in depth understanding about how GOD feels about fasting., and what He desires from us first. I recommend reading this first.

I meant getting a breakthrough to a long standing problem to which there seems to be no significant and positive change, these such problems are to be dealt with through prayer and fasting. Nothing about using God here. Assumptions are not from a humble minded person, nor judgement from God.

Spiritual breakthrough? Do you mean getting prayers answered?

The words of God supports praying and fasting.

Daniel 9:3
Joel 2:12
Ezra 8:21,23
Nehemiah 1:4
Esther 4:3, 16
Psalm 69:10
Psalm 109:24
Jeremiah 36:6
Jonah 3:5

Even Jesus fasted in which he sets the example: Matthew 4:2

Matthew 6:16-18
Matthew 17:21
Acts 10:30
Acts 13:2,3
Acts 14:23
1 Corinthians 7:5
2 Corinthians 11:27

I agree Cluny. No scripture teaches such things. I suppose this could mean, to,get clarity on an answer ....should I take this job or that kind of thing. In other words one is suggesting one needs to go on a hunger strike before God sees our self inflicted suffering and then shows us His will????? I would suggest just obeying Romans 12:1-2 to know God's will for your life. Read your Bible and obey His word. Those who walk IN THE SPIRIT, Have already broken through.

We pray and fast to get a spiritual breakthrough in OURSELVES, and to make OURSELVES more sensitive to God's leading.

Or by "breakthrough" do you mean to get God over a barrel to make Him do what you want?

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. God has free will, you know.

Christ is risen!

I haven't, but my wife has.
