I quit going at 16 and became an agnostic.

My sisters had been taking me for as long as I could remember.

But as I think back on it. I was a bad catholic.

\\Cluny in my growing up in the RCC\\

How long were you a Roman Catholic, Samuel?

Christ is risen!
---Cluny on 5/25/16

I believe you Cluny and I understand it. In Texas and in my family there is a much more Hispanic influence that is why this is a common understanding here. But not where you come from.

\\I can buy candles that when burned will cause or lead a saint to bless my finance, health and many other things that can be asked for.\\

I've never heard of this..

I know that when I see the forest of candles representing prayers and intentions of the faithful before Divine Liturgy, I ask the Lord to bless their intentions and grant them what is best for them.

Christ is risen!
---Cluny on 5/24/16

Cluny in my growing up in the RCC and this area I was told and many practice that lighting a candle was a prayer to the saint that continued as long as the candle burned.

I can buy candles that when burned will cause or lead a saint to bless my finance, health and many other things that can be asked for.

You can also buy candles that will cause curses to fall on your enemies but those are not from churches. But Brujas. Witches.

\\I am not against the lighting of candles. In Memorial of anyone.\\

You're beginning to catch on!

Christ is risen!
---Cluny on 5/23/16

No Cluny I didn't.

I am not against the lighting of candles. In Memorial of anyone.

I just don't believe candles are prayers. Nor do I believe the Wheels that Buddhist spin are prayers.

When we pray we are in a conversation with GOD. He is our loving father and wants to hear our thoughts, problems, hopes and dreams. He wants us to spend time in conversation with him.

We want to spend time in his presence. Why would we exchange the time we spend with GOD to talk to others who are dead?

\\Cluny how many of these symbols did they bow down before, or light candles too\\

About that, I would not know.

But I DO know that Jews light candles in memory of their departed loved ones, and light candles at the tombs of prophets and revered sages.

Did you know that?

Christ is risen!
---Cluny on 5/22/16

Cluny how many of these symbols did they bow down before, or light candles too.

Remember the commandments is don't worship anything. Even if it is a lessor worship, then GOD. Don't pray to anyone but GOD. Yes I have asked friends to pray for me. But I never got on my knees and called on them instead of going directly to GOD through my High Priest Jesus.

When Jesus taught us to pray He said to Our Father. Correct we can also pray to Jesus since He is GOD. But we are to not place the dead or living in the place of GOD.

Revelation 19:10

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God:...

\\

Yes, there were images in the ancient synagogue in Dura-Europos of mostly Biblical scenes.

Likewise, in the REAL synagogue used in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, including even zodiac symbols, though these were probably more a calendrical device than for astrological purposes.

True about the angels. But they were in the inner Holy of holies and the High Priest saw them once a year.

We are

Exodus 20:4,5

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God,...

\\Strong's makes it seem that God dislikes, forbids engravings, carvings, statues, etc. that are intended to symbolize, represent God.\\

As I've frequently said, Strong's is not the last word in Biblical lexicography.

Exodus and Leviticus DO command images of angels and other things to be made for the Tabernacle and later Temple.

Christ is risen!

I think it all depends on why we use them. If a symbol is used as a witness, or as a personal reminder, or even as a secret sign amid persecution (as ixthus originally was), it's fine. But if it is a fashion statement or an indication of trendiness, it's vanity, and if it's a magic amulet to ward off evil spirits, it's superstition and idolatry (and there are many Christians who wear them for both of those reasons).

If the wearer intends the above then Jesus would likely consider it a sin.

I totally agree with Rita. it's not what you wear it's what's in your heart and only God knows what's in your heart. I2 will sometimes wear a necklace and a bracelet that says Jesus loves me. but this is because I like to Proclaim my faith in him and mostly it's a talking point. this opens the door to it letting them know my strong belief in my FaIth. and I may be able to get a chance to pass His word on to them
---Lee on 5/19/16

I agree with Michael. My thought is that the cross around my neck or on my wall would not be his top priority.

I believe his top priority would be the sin that doth so easily beset us, and am I showing charity (love in action) to my neighbor.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being a curse for us: For it is written, Cursed is every one that hanged on a tree

{ A verses that came to mind }
---Richardc on 9/17/15

I have a necklace with an empty silver cross as a pendant and also have an ixthus (fish) pendant. I don't wear them all the time. The cross draws no attention (because lots of people wear them) but the fish does sometimes and can be a good talking point by telling others of its origin.

I don't feel that either of them are offensive to God or that he pats me on the back for, sometimes, wearing them. We should all take whatever opportunity God places in our ordinary day to witness for Him and, if what we wear sometimes brings about such an opportunity, we should use it just as we should with any other opportunity to speak about Him.

God guides us when we are in tune with Him.

What would Jesus say to you if he found a cross or crucifix on your wall or hanging around your neck?-Steveng

Thank you for remembering Me.

Also, if you are upset, or think life isn't fair:
Look at the crucifix and think again.
---Nicole_Lacey on 9/17/15

I agree with Samuel and Strongaxe.
The rich young ruler comes to mind. Jesus showed him where his heart truly bent.
Also, when Samuel, the prophet, went to anoint the next king. God told him He doesn't look at appearance, but at the heart.
Many times in the scriptures we see Jesus perceiving what was in the hearts.
I believe Jesus would know why a person is wearing such, whether it is for their glory or His.

Steveng:

You said: What would Jesus say to you if he found a cross or crucifix on your wall or hanging around your neck?

I think he would look right past the superficial object, and look deep into your heart, and challenge you on what is there, rather than what is on the outside. Look at how dismissive he was about food, saying what we eat passes out and goes into the sewer, while what's truly evil comes from what we speak.
---StrongAxe on 9/16/15

Jesus - Hey does that remind you of me.

Me - Yeah it does, it also reminds me that I am not my own. I was bought at a price. I am second.

Steven thanks for the reminder.

What would Jesus say to you if he found a cross or crucifix on your wall or hanging around your neck? Steveng I would think that he would say "I am happy to see that you have, and look to a reminder of my sacrifice for you".

What would Jesus say to you if he found a cross or crucifix on your wall or hanging around your neck?
---Steveng on 9/15/15

I doubt that Jesus would rebuke us for having such an object.

But my question to you is, "what would you say to others if they have a cross or crucifix having on their wall or around their neck"?

It seems to me that you are hiding behind Jesus and throwing stones at those who wear or have a cross or crucifix.

Do you believe it to be sacrilege to have a cross or crucifix? I do not believe it diminishes our love for God or our love for others.

Perhaps you could tell us of your thoughts?
