\\Are you not despising prophesying?

Only false ones.

So, your belief is that there are no prophets...
---Steveng on 10/5/15

How many times do I have to tell you that the two people in Rev. 11 are not prophets? In Greek the word used is martys defined as witness in 29 other places in the NT. This is the same word Jesus uses in Matt 18:16 "...by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established".

There is a big difference between the gift of prophesy and the Biblical office of Prophet. Eph. 2:20 tell us that the foundation of the church was built on Jesus, the Apostles and the Prophets. Past tense, built. The foundational development is over, as is the offices of Apostle and Prophet. But the gift of prophesy still flourishes in the church.

Gal 4:5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

---faithforfaith on 10/2/15

Exactly.

Mat_10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Mat_15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Luk_15:6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.

Mic_2:12 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee, I will surely gather the remnant of Israel, I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
---Trav on 10/6/15

you have not presented verses that say so...Are you not despising prophesying?
---Samuelbb7 on 10/5/15

The gift of prophesy is not the same as the Biblical office of Prophet.

1 Cor. 12:28 "And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that..."

Eph 2:20 "having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone"

God appointed the Apostles and Prophets as the first and second offices in the church. As Ephesians 2 points out, God built the foundation of the church on these offices. However, the time of building the foundation is past. So are the two offices of Apostle and Prophet.
---Mark_Eaton on 10/6/15

Good point Steveng

You believe so Mark Eaton but you have not presented verses that say so.

Act 21:9
And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

So the New Testament had those who prophesied.

Joel 2:28
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Partially fulfilled in Acts 2. But will happen again.

1 Thessalonians 5:20
Despise not prophesyings.

Are you not despising prophesying?

\\I recently heard a great saying and I think it applies here: "Fear new revelation and cling to the ancient". \\

That's EXACTLY why I'm Orthodox.

FWIW, when Protestantism first appeared, it was called "The New Religion" or "The New Learning."

Glory to Jesus Christ!

It is best never to tell anyone about your good deeds. Otherwise you may receive praise and become proud.

Mark_Eaton wrote: "Prophets are no longer needed..."

Prophets have a dual purpose: one, to prophesy, to warn people and the church what is ABOUT to occur. God says he doesn't do anything without warning his people first.

Two, to edify the church.

So, your belief is that there are no prophets meaning that you will celebrate the killing of God's last two prophets as revealed by John in Revelation because they do not conform to your denomination's doctrune.

God set some IN THE CHURCH, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers and workers of miracles.
1 Corinthians 12:28
Ephesians 4:11
---Steveng on 10/5/15

So, does that mean christians don't need apostles, prophets and teachers?
---Steveng on 10/4/15

As I have stated to you before, I believe the Biblical offices of Apostle and Prophet have been closed. The definition of an Apostle is in Acts 1:21. Prophets are no longer needed after Jesus who is the Word of God, and after the Apostles who delivered to us what they received.

I recently heard a great saying and I think it applies here: "Fear new revelation and cling to the ancient".

1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world"
---Mark_Eaton on 10/5/15

Mark_Eaton wrote: "Second, I feel that anything the Lord revealed to this man is for him, not me."

So, does that mean christians don't need apostles, prophets and teachers?
---Steveng on 10/4/15

True Bill. Good point.

But should we also not decry these false leaders.

Jude 1:4
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Read all of Jude.

WE are NOT slaves or servants of a MASTER, we are SONS of Abba FATHER (Revelation was for SLAVES/SERVANTS, Rev. 1).

Rom 8:29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren.
Rom 8:23 but we ourselves, who HAVE THE FIRST FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Gal 4:5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

Mat 23:15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a CHILD OF HELL as yourselves.
---faithforfaith on 10/2/15

Mark says "confession is nearly always about contrition". Confession of sins, I would say, is about contrition. But there is confessing Jesus before men, and confessing that Jesus is the Lord of all. Also, confessing can mean claiming something is true, but this can be abused if we are confessing what is self-seeking and not first seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

Also, Hebrews 12:4-11 is very clear how we need to seek our Father for His correction, and the results which will come because of this.

So, if we stay busy with our attention to criticizing money-seeking pimps of ministry, this could be pimping our attention away from how we ourselves need correction and maturity!

I just watched the video and several others by the same man.

A few things he said I found interesting were:

"You're gonna receive your money tonight in Jesus name"

"I deny being broke, I will never be broke another day in my life"

As I listened to the minister, I was disturbed by a few phrases he said, such as "the Lord revealed to me" and "begin to confess and you will receive with your confession".

First, Biblical confession is nearly always about contrition. Second, I feel that anything the Lord revealed to this man is for him, not me. The Lord can speak to me directly.
---Mark_Eaton on 9/30/15

"Why do many Word of Faith, Name It Claim It, Prosperity Gospel Preachers insist people go forward and lay money at their feet."
I consider them spiritual pimps, exploiting the ignorance, greed, or financial desperation of their followers.
