For those who will actively LIVE a HEAVENLY existence/spirit daily, satan is no longer a threat (For the SPIRIT-FILLED, satan has been destroyed).

1Co 15:26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

2Co 10:4 divine power to destroy strongholds

Heb 2:14 that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

1Jo 3:8 The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

Heb 2:14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

All verses are from the RSV.

John1944. Yes GOD is in over all control. But He allows us free will. Satan wants to tempt and control. But GOD fences him in.

There are many today who in their selfishness and desire for power are doing the will of Satan. Spreading hate and fear.

---Samuelbb7 on 11/24/15

Too much at times, but we need to still watch out.
---Jane on 11/23/15

Only what we allow.
---Jimbo on 11/23/15

God is in complete control and just uses the satan for his own purposes.

"And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure."

2 Corinthians 12:7 KJV
---john1944 on 11/24/15

Unknown by many people, although Christ conquered sin and death he has not yet returned to claim his rightful position over the heaven and earth. We live in a present evil world where Satan is the prince of the power of the air (Gal 1:4, 1 Cor 2:8, Eph 2:2).
Beware of the tradition of men that is after the world, and not after Christ, because the course of the world is under Satanic influence (Col 2:8 Eph 2:2)

Luke, yes I am saying God needs a kingdom. Jesus' message was all about the gospel of the kingdom. He went throughout the cities and villages preaching the gospel of the kingdom. Matt 9:35.

"And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come." Matt 24:14. That hasn't happened yet. God needs a righteous people to fill up His kingdom.

"And in the day of these kings shall the God of Heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, and the kingdom shall not be left to other people for it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms and it shall stand forever." Dan 2:44.

barb, here is what you said and the reason I answered as I did,

"Certainly Jesus has all power throughout the Heavens and earth but He cannot use the power He has on earth until He has a people to work thru.

barb, what you are declaring here is that Jesus had all power but He could not use it until He has people to work through.
I believe you are wrong because Jesus Christ is God. He doesn't need anyone's help in order to display His Almighty power. Its almost as if you are saying that His power is a slave to men. Once He has His children then and only then can He use His almighty power. That is not so.
---Luke on 11/23/15

Luke, what wrong things have I said? Of course God knows the future and He reveals it to us in the book of Revelation. "The revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave Him to show unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass, and He sent and signified it by His angel unto His servant John." Rev 1:1.

"Blessed is he who reads and they that hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written therein, for the time is at hand". Rev 1:3.
---barb on 11/23/15

barb, I believe you forget that what is happening in this world has already happened as far as God is concern. That is why we have Scripture. Nothing will be different concerning His plan.
It will end as God ordained it to end. If God was not in control of all things, then He is not God. Every detail happens as God planned it.
The devil and his angels is just a story in the plan of God. God is Sovereign.
He knows everything, He never learns. If things happen and He later found out, then He would be learning.
He knows how many will be saved and how many won't. He saves them as His plan unfolds.
That is why I tell people to learn about God first. If they knew God first, they would not say so many wrong things.
---Luke on 11/23/15

Cluny, The only power I can see that is taken away from Satan & His demons is the power to enter back into Heaven. The 2nd beast in Rev 13 has power to give to the 1st beast and power to rain down fire from Heaven.

So I would have to say that they have all the power that they were given by God at their creation still intact but they will be destroyed by God in the end and thrown into the lake of fire. God gave them their power and only God can take it away and so He shall.
---barb on 11/22/15

Certainly Jesus has all power throughout the Heavens and earth but He cannot use the power He has on earth until He has a people to work thru. We can see how God worked thru Israel and would have given them as a light to the world but they were deceived and chose to worship other gods.

We can rest assured that God will have a righteous people at the end time and He will accomplish His plan. "And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire, and them that had gotten the VICTORY over the beast and over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name stand on the sea of glass having the harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God and the song of the Lamb..." Rev 15:1-8.

Just before His Ascension, the Savior said, "ALL POWER is given to Me in heaven and earth."

How much of the ALL POWER that HE has is given to Satan and company?

Answer this, and you've answered your own question.

Luke, who gives the two witnesses the power to give prophecy at the end of time? Who makes war against them and who raises them up to Heaven after three days? Rev 11:3-13.

God often led Israel into battle and God leads His people into the battle for truth which will be the last battle fought in this corrupt world. The war is not over until the 7th trumpet sounds and the kingdoms of the world become the kingdoms of Christ. Rev 11:15.

barb, in Rev. 12:7-9 war broke out in heaven. Not here on earth. and not a war with God. These were angels, not human beings. God permitted them to have that war.
In Rev. 12:17 says Satan is at war against the saints. But the saints are not at war with Satan. They keep the commandments of God. The enemy has been trying to pick a fight with us, but we have Christ.
But a war considered between two. The enemy cannot make war against the Lord. The enemy has been defeated and what that means is that at one time the enemy had a hold on all those in the world, but not anymore. He was defeated and so lost his control on all human beings. We once belonged to him when we were lost, but now we belong to Christ.

Cluny, "For judgement I have come into the world that those which see not might see and those who see shall be made blind." I saw not but now I see. If one sees their sin of blindness/deception but does not repent and rid themselves of it then their sin remains. Read it in context.

Anyone who says they have never been deceived or cannot be deceived has been deceived already.
---barb on 11/20/15

\\Cluny, yep. I definitely was deceived by Satan for many years and I will be deceived again if I let down my gua\\

As Jesus said, "Because you say, 'I see!' therefore your sin remains."

I'll just rest in the Savior, myself.

Cluny, yep. I definitely was deceived by Satan for many years and I will be deceived again if I let down my guard. Verse 9 does not say we have to remain deceived. Read on in Rev 12:10-11 and you will see how we can overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the testimony we receive from Him. Rev 3:21.

"And there was a WAR in Heaven, Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon fought and his angels. And prevailed not, neither was their place found anymore in Heaven." Rev. 12:7-9. Notice that verse 9 tells us that Satan has deceived the whole world.

"Therefore rejoice ye Heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to those who inhabit the earth and the sea for the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time." Rev 12:10-12.

"And the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make WAR with the remnant of Her seed who keep the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ". Rev 12:17.

Luke said, "Remember that God is in control of all things even the actions of the fallen angels."

Luke, thank you for saying this I really needed to hear this on this morning!!!

"For years, I have been telling people there is a war going on between God and Satan, and this war is real."

Rob, I believe you are very wrong calling that a war. It is not a war. Satan is permitted to induce his powers only if and when God permits him. If you are saying that there is a war here on earth between them and Christians, the answer is still no because "He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." 1 John 4:4.
Remember that God is in control of all things even the actions of the fallen angels.
There isn't even a war between them and those who are lost. Those lost already belong to the enemy.

We have power over the enemy not the enemy us. Luke 10:19,20 And He said to them,"I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you,but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven." God Bless

You wrote: I find it interesting that C.S. Lewis wrote the Screwtape letters and then warns against putting too much emphasis on demons.

He also wrote that he found the project difficult and distateful, because to do a good job, he had to put himself into the mind-set of Screwtape, which was diametrically opposed to everything he believed in.

Of course, every good dramatic work requires villains, and while it's a dirty job, somebody has to do it. Passion plays require Christian actors who do good jobs playing Judas, Caiaphas, Pilate, and Herod.

Heath Ledger played one of the best Jokers ever. Unfortunately, to do the role effectively, he got into it so deeply, it likely led to his suicide.

Sound Manichean to me..
---john1944 on 11/17/15

Strongaxe, God will not use His power and authority for those who choose lies over truth. As Jesus told His disciples, "Take heed that no man deceives you." He never promised them that He would keep them from deception but put the onus on them. If the disciples chosen by Jesus could be deceived then how much more so can we be.

The war for truth is a war fought with words. John 8:50-51, Matt 7:24-29. It all depends on the ground on which we stake our house.

I find it interesting that C.S. Lewis wrote the Screwtape letters and then warns against putting too much emphasis on demons.

C. S. Lewis once wrote that there are two equally dangerous errors Christians make about demons. One is to believe they don't exist, and the other is to believe they exist, but to devote too much attention to them (i.e. to the point of unhealthy obsession). Many "modern" Christians are guilty of the former, while many "superstitious" Christians are guilty of the latter, seeing demons under every rock. They forget that Satan has power, but God has even more power.
---StrongAxe on 11/17/15

Barb, Josef, and Luke, I agree with what you have written.

For years, I have been telling people there is a war going on between God and Satan, and this war is real.

You will be shocked and amazed with how many people who claim to be Christian, reject and don't want to hear about this war!
---Rob on 11/17/15

Satan and his angels have all the authority that we as individuals are willing to give them. Believing a lie as if it is the truth is the first step to allowing the evil one to influence our lives. Jesus put it this way, "You are of your father, the devil and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie he speaks on his own for he is a liar and the father of it."

Satan speaks lies that sound good but those lies keep us in the dark. Jesus brought light into the world so that those seeking for truth can come out of the darkness and into the Light. John 3:18-21.
---barb on 11/17/15

Satan is the god of this world and his spirit is still openly at work in the children of disobedience. His following are the powers, principalities, spiritual wickedness, and rulers of the darkness of this world. With all the hate, terrorism, murder, thief, corruption among those in authority, violence, and ill will among men. I would say his influence, and the influence of his followers, is as great as it has ever been, simply more covert in some areas, while being even more overt in others.

Rob, don't you know how much influence they have? The whole world is in a fallen state.
That is how much influence they have. Because of the sinful nature of man, the enemy and his helpers are able to work in the lives of so many. Remember:
"And you He made alive "who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, (according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience) among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others" Eph. 2:1-3.
---Luke on 11/17/15

None--However, Satan is liar, and he will make you think that he has the power, or authority or influence. If you buy into that lie, you find yourself running down the wrong road, believing anything that Satan wants you to believe, like there is no Holy Trinity, or Marian devotion is to be sneered at, or that the bread and wine do not actually become the Body and Blood of Christ, or anything else he wants to use to trap you.

Pray for me,
the unworthy monk Brendan
