The Gift Of Healing
Why do so many of those who claim to be anointed by God to heal all manner of sickness, illness, and disease wear glasses? Why do they need to see Doctors, take medicine, and need surgery? Why don't they go to hospitals and heal people?

Hope in healing destroys faith in God when it fails to happen.
Is our hope in Christ only for this life? (1 Cor 15:19)
Paul speaks of hope in the Lord who gives everlasting hope, of eternal life (Titus 1:2). resurrection (1 Thess 4:13). glory (Rom 8:18)redeemed body (Rom 8:23-24)short and light affliction (2 Cor 4:17-18). Hope of salvation (1 Thess 5:8) Hope of the Lords return (Titus 2:13).
Every hope here is certain for the believer who trusts the gospel of Christ, and has hope in the Lord. All we do is wait. (Rom 8:25)
Our patience producing hope is in heaven, not healing which is temporal (Col 1:5, Phil 3:20-21).
God's grace, is sufficient for strength, consolation, and hope. (2 Thess 2:16-17)

I do not totally disagree with you and I do not totally agree with you, however, there are many Christians who have been anointed with oil by elders, forgave everybody, and did the necessary to bill there faith and you know what? They still died.

Darline, what you said:
"I think what we may have forgotten sometimes is that every person has a road of life to follow and sometimes healing isn't part of that road in that particular instance." is very true.
Each one of us has a road ahead if we are to continue to live. And God knows every step we are going to take for He alone allows us to live. He alone has the power to heal us or allows us to stop breathing and die. The doctors at a surgery are doing what God has ordained them to do at the time we are sick, either cure us or not.
It is God's will that is done in all things.

I pray with and for many who are in much pain So easy to say, but hard to do when they are calling upon you for hope and they want you to give them hope.
You know with a heart of compassion you want to just "Take their pain away.", but you cant.

John 9346 I don't think we should tell them that at all because each person has to learn that for themselves. All we can do is give them comfort and our Godly love and share with them the Word of God which fits their situation plus pray with them when they call upon us. My dear Aunt had heart trouble which would act up at night, but not a heart attack so I told her to call me any time day or night. She called 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning and we would talk and pray until she calmed down and hung up. Being available is very important we can't control the outcome but we can control the input. God Bless

Christians come up with all kinds of reasons why prayers for healing don't work: God's not doing it anymore,it wasn't his will or timing, your disease makes you a better christian, his answer is "no." Most of these excuses blame God. These are weak christians having weak faith because it's the faith that heals. God instructs us to go the the elders for prayer and that prayer, offered in faith, makes us well. Reading James 5 verses 13-20 will explain how to get healed and why healing doesn't work.
Another reason healing prayers don't work is unforgiveness. Read Matthew 6:14,15.
Another reason is lack of faith. Read Matthew 17:20.
Jesus said, "Your faith has healed you."

I think it is hard to tell someone in sickness and pain this truth you state that healing may not be in God's Plan for them.
You know Samuel after reading your statement I think some of these preachers think they are helping, they are wrong but they are doing a necessary good they think.

John 9346 thanks for writing me and I know what you mean about some are healed and some aren't. I think what we may have forgotten sometimes is that every person has a road of life to follow and sometimes healing isn't part of that road in that particular instance. I just praise God for all He has done and all I know He will do for He is in control. God Bless

Neither Jesus nor the Apostles lived in mansions and became rich.
They helped people not stole from them.

I certainly believe in miracles and healings.
I have been Super Naturally Healed Several Times...
I have also prayed for many and saw Instantaneous Super Natural Miracles/Healings,however, I have also prayed for many who did not get heal this is why I say miracles and healings are not the "Normative.", but we should always pray and believe for them and let God be glorified in how he chooses.
Everyone Jesus and the apostles healed were healed.

Healing was a one of the sign gifts that ceased (2 Tim 4:20)
1 Cor 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom
After the dispensational change from prophecy to mystery, Paul knew that the spiritual gifts would not last and began immediately preparing the churches for the time when they would vanish.
1 Cor 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail, whether there be tongues, they shall cease, whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Failing to rightly divide prophecy from mystery, leaves people thinking that the miracles performed by the apostles and early church is our pattern. It is presumed that what the Spirit did before, he must continue until the Lord returns.

John 9346 people don't command miracles and for people to be healed, that is why most don't make it a practice to go to hospitals, although some do go,a person must be anointed by God for He is the Lord that heals and to go without that anointing is without effect. Besides prayer goes to God when you pray in Jesus name no matter where you are, therefore, you don't have to be there in person.God chooses who to heal and we are only to be obedient to His will. God Bless

Thank you Rob.
Most of these so called healers are stealing from the poor and hopeful. They promise much and deliver only empty pockets from those they steal and lie too.
The lead to much of the hatred and doubt that many have about Christians.

Cluny, after working for over 40 years, which included doing research, I'm now retired.
Now that I'm retired, I have more time to study and do research!

People's beliefs, medical conditions, etc. are their own business, unless they make public issues of them. Then, as we are called to be vigilant, it is our duty to make sure that those who preach to us (in any context) practice what they preach. Abolitionists should be sober. Puritans should be pure. Those who preach prosperity should be prosperous (and always are). Those who preach charity should be charitable. Those who say God's healing is for us to freely appropriate should themselves show evidence of God's healing.

Rob asked, "Why do so many of those who claim to be anointed by God to heal all manner of sickness, illness, and disease wear glasses? Why do they need to see Doctors, take medicine, and need surgery? Why don't they go to hospitals and heal people?"
Because the truth is miracles/healings are not normative and either they want it to be and do not know any bettor or they are completely deceived...

Rob, like Darline, I do not claim to be a healer. Yet at certain times my prayers were answered. But does not mean that we can heal others. First of all it is God who heals. Second, He does not heal all those we pray for. We know that because many who are sick that we love, die anyway. We accept it because it is God's will that is done.
So when they claim someone can heal, like the Word of Faith preachers, do not believe it. I saw a special on one of the faith healers, and they found thousands of letters that were never opened and thrown in the garbage can, letters where people had asked for prayers.
---Luke on 11/23/15|
Our faith is not in a healing, but in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation (Rom 1:16, Rom 4:25, 1 Cor 15:1-4). Walking by faith does not describe a healing (2 Cor 5:7).
God did everything necessary to save you by the cross. If there is something left for God to do for you, then he has not done it all, and you are not complete in Him.
If you believe the grace of God is sufficient, then the Bible says you are complete in Christ, even if you are physically infirm (Col 2:10, 2 Cor 12:9). Put your hope in the Lord, not in a healing.

Rob, I've often wondered about that myself.
---john1944 on 11/23/15|
Rob I don't consider myself to have the Gift of Healing but I have prayed for sick people and they were healed. I also have been sick and wasn't healed but that's ok because even if I had the gift of Healing it is a Ministry Gift to be used on other people not myself. It is for the Glory of God and His Kingdom. Just because I may not have been healed exactly when I wanted it eventually I'll be healed whether by God right away or by Medicine it is all God and it doesn't affect my faith in Him because He is with me through thick and thin. I love Him and trust him and Praise Him. God Bless
