Not Being Persecuted

Why am I not being persecuted? It says in the bible that everyone who is a believer in Jesus is persecuted.

\\The capitalized "THEN" in his statement, suggests "then and only then".\\

What I meant, however, was that being beheaded for Christ's sake was persecution, as opposed to simply being disagreed with.

Otherwise, you would be persecuting me, Jed.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 1/18/16

Persecution can come in many forms. Some true Christians are ignored by their families. Some even make fun or call them names like holy roller. Some whisper behind your back that you are off the deep end. All this is minor when it comes to real persecution such as killings or burning. Many missionaries are killed and that is real persecution. It's in America now. We are going to experience real persecution very soon.
---Shira6773 on 1/18/16

michael_e:

Jesus was talking about his followers being persecuted BECAUSE they were his followers (i.e. for their religious beliefs) - he said "YOU will be persecuted", not "everybody gets persecuted". Japanese and Ho Chi Minh persecuted American POWs because they were Americans, not because they were Christians. Hitler persecuted Jews because of their blood, not their religion (due to his fanatical racist theories), as Jewish converts to Christianity were not exempt.
---StrongAxe on 1/18/16

Strongaxe, Neither Emperor Showa, Hitler or Ho chi minh professed Christianity. Wars are not only politically based but religiously based, so pow persecution does apply

Jed:

You wrote: It seems you may have a reading comprehension problem. The capitalized "THEN" in his statement, suggests "then and only then". What did you take the capitalized "THEN" to mean, StrongAxe?

I usually depend on a dictionary's definition of what words mean, a grammar's definition of how words come together, and what someone actually says. I prefer not to read between the lines, because that's a great way to make assumptions that aren't actually there. You should try it some time.

"Tom isn't offensive. Talk to Dick, THEN you'll be offended" doesn't in any way imply whether Harry is offensive or not. Again, elementary logic.

StrongAxe, thanks for doing Cluny's backpeddling for him. It seems you may have a reading comprehension problem. The capitalized "THEN" in his statement, suggests "then and only then". What did you take the capitalized "THEN" to mean, StrongAxe?

Jed:

Cluny wrote: when you are threatened with beheading if you don't exchange Jesus for mahomet, THEN you can say you're being persecuted.

He didn't say: Nothing else counts.

You wrote: Undoubtedly, you will now twist even your own words and backpedal from your original assertion, since it has now been refuted with Jesus' own words.

Which specific words of his did you mean? I didn't see you quote any.

michael_e:

Persecution of POWs only applies here if they are prisoners of a religious wars. ISIS imprisoning Christians counts. Japanese imprisoning Americans (or vice versa) doesn't.

trey:

TV only persecutes you if it has no OFF switch and you are forced to watch.

Undoubtedly, you will now twist even your own words and backpedal from your original assertion, since it has now been refuted with Jesus' own words. I eagerly await to see you do that. It will be funny.

Most people on these blogs think that when they are disagreed with, they are being persecuted.

Jed: Mere social disapproval for being obnoxious in the Name of Jesus is NOT persecution.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

---Cluny on 1/15/16

No one knows more about being obnoxious in the name of Christ than you, Cluny. But you are also very ignorant to say that execution is the only form of persecution.

This is how Jesus defined persecution in Matthew 5:11 "Blessed are you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things about you because you are my followers."

It's not surprising that you think yourself better qualified that Jesus to determine what is legitimate persecution.

\\Cluny, thank you for your Christian insight. I am so thankful you are on ChristiaNet. Without you the rest of us would have no true understanding of scripture or even the world around us. Thank God for people like you. If it weren't for you I wouldn't look forward to heaven.

Any time, trey, any time. I'm always glad to be of help and instruct the ignorant.

Jed: Mere social disapproval for being obnoxious in the Name of Jesus is NOT persecution. A group from one congregation came to a local high school singing hymns and preaching during school hours on the campus. Police had to be called to restore peace. I'm sure these people thought they were being persecuted.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Really, that's the form of persecution, eh? What a small mind.

Chria, it is my belief that many times we as Christians are persecuted and we are so numb to it that we don't see it happening all around us.

The world pushes wickedness upon us from TV, the internet, radio, and the public. We hear cussing, we see violence and immorality. We hear the Lord's name taken in vain, and we continue on with our lives. We are told if we believe in morality we are politically incorrect. We are told that women should be able to terminate their unborn children, and we don't even realize that these are attacks against us as Christians. Our children are taught to be accepting of pagan religions, immorality, and told not to pray and still we don't see we are being persecuted.

Cluny said, "To a baby Christian, baby trials. To a mature Christian, adult trials.

Don't worry or feel guilty, Chria. The trials will come soon enough, and you will wish they were not happening."

Chria, I will send a big AMEN to what Cluny said. The trials will come.

If someone is trying to manipulate you, telling you that you are not a good Christian unless you are persecuted, tell him or her that there is more to Christianity than being persecuted.

Look up "Joy of the Lord" on Bible Gateway. You will find 34 verses in the KJV that contain words in that phrase.

Rita H I think your response will be most helpful as it may be that Chira did have a wrong understanding of just what persecution is. Like you mention persecution can come in forms other than the severe torture that many are suffering in other countries. God Bless.
---Simone on 1/7/16

Persecution comes in many forms.

Refusing to employ a Christian is persecution, disciplining school pupils who try to hold a prayer meeting in their lunch hour is persecution. Removing children from Christian parents and placing them in care homes is persecution. It IS happening.

Persecution does not, necessarily, mean physical torture.
---Rita_H on 1/6/16

The early Eastern Christians writers teach that God allows trials appropriate to each person's spiritual maturity.

To a baby Christian, baby trials. To a mature Christian, adult trials.

Don't worry or feel guilty, Chria. The trials will come soon enough, and you will wish they were not happening.

Chria said, " Maybe I have been persecuted at some point and didn't know it? I don't know, but I'm feeling VERY guilty about it.. HELP ME PLEASE!!!"

Take a deep breath and calm down. Persecution doesn't happen automatically. You have to work at it. You can either be obnoxious, like a lot of people on these blogs, or you can try a more structured program, that will lead to some persecution.

You might want to try Evangelism Explosion. You can Google search and find it. There are all sorts of resources for you.

Maybe you have been persecuted at some point and didn't know it, or perhaps you simply did not consider it persecution by your definition. Strongs partially defines it as pursued to mistreat, harassed or trouble. If anyone has taken advantage of you because of your beliefs, you have been persecuted. Example: Jesus tells His followers to "Give to him that ask of you, and from him that would borrow of you turn not away." If anyone knows that you live by those instructions, without conditions, and has borrowed from you with no intent of ever repaying, or approached you to be given something they could have easily gotten for themselves, simply because they knew, as a follower, you would give, you have been, in a sense persecuted.

The scripture says in 2 Tim 12, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.. Does that mean I become complacent in my walk with Christ?

Karen D. said, " Scripture please."

Come on, Karen, this is obviously a new Christian seeking information. To ask her to be up on every verse, and be able to quote it, exactly, in 33 different versions is asking too much. Give her the information she is asking for.

Chria, take a look at how many Christians are being killed each day in Syria and Lebanon. Look at their sufferings, and thank God, that as yet, you have not suffered to the drawing of blood.

Chria, are you just reading these blogs, but not answering anyone when inspired by Holy Spirit?

Are you afraid because you see how we are treating each other? Forgive us.

It is easier here on this website than in person.
This is a great place to practice evangelization.

People have called me names, made fun of my spelling, grammar and even accused me of being Cluny. (Step up for me, but downer for him)

You don't have to hit to be hit. Trust me, there are some people here who are in their 80's who hit pretty hard.

But everyone here truly cares for each other.

Deep down they are afraid if they don't convince you of your error you will go to hell.

So, the punches are really just love taps.

Chria, actually the verse reads "...all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution." Not all who proclaim to be believers live Godly in Christ Jesus. Anyone who makes a sincere attempt to submit themselves to the power that enables them to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. Will experience persecution in the sense of being envied, hated, used, abused, and generally mistreated, which is allowed for His sake. Yet they will be sought after eagerly, and earnestly to endeavour to acquire that which the believer possess. A righteousness that is of the Father which confidently and earnestly expects to receive eternal life through Christ.
---josef on 1/2/16

Chira, many, many times I have been ppersecuted by others because I place my hope, faith, and trust in Christ, and Christ Alone, for my Salvation.

There were times when I was not being persecuted and felt guilty.

Chira, if you are not being persecuted Thank God, and consider it to be a Blessing!
---Rob on 1/2/16

If you think you're ready for persecution, chria, you will be soon enough.

Moderator, there's a difference between being persecuted and being disagreed with. The 21 Coptic Christian martyrs were persecuted.

Happy New Year!
