Ok, Elena. I understand better now.

Don't be his enabler and allow him to mooch off you, too!

Simply say, "No! You may not stay with me."

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Elena, how old is your nephew?

Is there any reason, barring poor education or disability, why he cannot support himself?

Where and how does he live when he's not with you?

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 6/28/16

God bless you for your service.

I thank you Monk Brendan.

I was on active duty for 8 years, and was in the Army Reserve for several years.

I spent over 40 years working for various Government Agencies. They were all spent serving others.

Rob said, "Two weeks after finishing High School, and three weeks after turning 18, (I had all the needed credits to graduate when I was 16, but my parents said would graduate with my class), I did move out. To get away, I joined the Army!"

Thank you for your service to our country, Rob!

KarenD, I partially agree with you. When I was a minor, Junior High, through High School, my Parents became SDA.

Because I was still a minor, and living under their roof, I took part in SDA Activities, even though I didn't believe or accept SDA teaching, because my parents said do it, or move out.

Two weeks after finishing High School, and three weeks after turning 18, (I had all the needed credits to graduate when I was 16, but my parents said would graduate with my class), I did move out. To get away, I joined the Army!

Hermana Elena....The rule at our house is if you stay here you go to church with us. He can wear anything to church. Do not listen to his excuses.

Elena: He's waaaay old enough to live like a grown man should & have his own house. Don't treat him like a child. Pray for him to soon grow up & accept responsibility for his actions & life. As long as you treat him like a child he'll be one IN A GROWN MAN'S BODY!
---Leon on 6/25/16

As an adult of 35 he is testing you and your faith. You are correct in saying "my house, my rules". My advice is just pray for him now and leave the subject alone. God will deal with him in due course.

I said,///Buy the kid a pair of shoes, and make him wear them to church.

If he doesn't want to go, then tell him to move out.
---Monk_Brendan on 6/25/16///

Then Leon said, "Nope!!! Establish the rules & make sure he's clear on, & will abide by them BEFORE he moves in. Otherwise, he needs to stay just where he's at. Should you allow him to move in & he goes back on the agreement, you need to immediately send him & shoes back to his previous address."

Leon, do you feel it is your mission in life to disagree with me on EVERYTHING?

By the way, how old is he? Sounds like he may be at least a teenager.

It depends?

"As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
Joshua 24:15

Is he in your household or not?

Treat him as you would your own child.

FORCE him to go to Church.

You would force him to go to the Doctor if he needed to go wouldn't you?

You force him to see the dentist.

You force him to go to school.

Well, going to Church is more important the all 3 above combined.

You may be the only godly person he knows.

DON'T LET HIM DOWN.
---Nicole_Lacey on 6/24/16

Hi Elena! Its a pleasure to see you here.

It is your choice what to do, but I'd recommend prayer concerning this, and being open to the Lord's leading.

Why does your nephew want to go there?

Just thinking, how many churches would welcome someone whether or not they have shoes. In the USA this might be a problem, whereas in another country or culture it may not be.
---Chria9396 on 6/25/16

If he can't abide by your house rules, he should stay where he's at. ijs

Does he go around barefoot outside?

You have a right to admit anyone into your house that you wish--or to exclude anyone, including your nephew, for any reason you find fit.

If someone stays under my roof, he follows MY rules, which include going with me to Divine LIturgy on Sunday.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
