///...Begat is...creating after one['s] own kind. [That's] why [it's] ...said...man begat...son[s] in the Bible.

...Matthew 1:16b...Jesus [wasn't] begotten of Joseph......He was born of Mary...Jesus was God in Human Flesh...the Only Begotten Son of God.... John 1 [says] Jesus is the Only Begotten Son of God.---Jamea7799 on 10/22/16///

Jamea7799: I agree! You more than adequately explained the truth of Gen. 6:1-4. Some people think the "sons of God" were angels. Not so! Scripture says God made His creatures to multiply/reproduce (begat) "after their own kind", i.e., mankind, etc.

The "giants" were people too...

To Begat is similar to creating after one own kind.
That is why it is always said that a man begat a son in the Bible.

The only verse that doesn't state this is Matthew 1:16b, concerning how Jesus was not begotten of Joseph, but make it clear that He was born of Mary. For as Jesus was God in Human Flesh, He was the Only Begotten Son of God. For only God the Son could be Begotten of the Heavenly Father. John 1 deals with how Jesus is the Only Begotten Son of God.

//"You dont see". But, I do see the personality connections with experiences & choices.---Leon on 9/21/16

You are correct.

Because each name was listed due to their personality connections with experiences and choices.

No point to add the 4 women's names to the list.

BTW did you know that Scholars know of names deliberately LEFT OFF the list just from the Bible alone.

They believe it was due to keep the number 14 generations between special events x 3

David's name means 14 and he is a king.

So as Jesus is a King.
3 to equal the Trinity

Micha: "You dont see". But, I do see the personality connections with experiences & choices.

\I think the begats in the Bible shows how individual families, with diverse personalities, turned out based upon their lifestyle choices.\-Leon on 9/16/16
\Gen 5 is full of begats with no diverse personalities, life experiences, nor lifestyle choices recorded.
Most of Gen 10 is the same.
Over 1/2 of Gen 11.
Ruth 4 18-22
1Ch
Matt 1
You just don't see "begat" associated with personalities, experiences or choices.
What you do see is a male genealogy from Adam to Christ with some notable branches.

///Leon, I would say that ones in the same family might not all be the same fruit . . . like how Joseph was not like his brothers. And Cain and Abel, both from Adam and Eve, turned out (fruitful or unfruitful) very differently, for fruit...---Bill on 9/15/16///

Bill: Joseph & his brothers had different mothers, but they were all Jacob/Israel's seed (sons: fruit of his loins) ~ all begat by him. Like fruit produced by any tree, not all will turn out the same for any number of reasons.

Like fruit on a tree, we all start out the same. But, we each choose how we end up. I think the begats in the Bible shows how individual families, with diverse personalities, turned out based upon their lifestyle choices.

Leon, I would say that ones in the same family might not all be the same fruit . . . like how Joseph was not like his brothers. And Cain and Abel, both from Adam and Eve, turned out very differently, for fruit.

To me, "begat" means a father has taken part in conceiving a child of his own kind. So, then > a human father produces a human son. And our Heavenly Father has a divine Son, Jesus, who is His "only-begotten". So, considering the meaning of this word can help us to confirm the divinity of Jesus.

///As Nicole alluded, Men beget children and women bear children. Children are born to parents. It is about lineage. Most of which is the line of Christ.
Some, however, complete a picture, such as Cain's and Esau's.---micha9344 on 9/11/16///

Micha: I wonder if it's more about showing contrast between "family trees" that bear good fruit versus trees that bear bad fruit? The Bible says a tree is known by it's fruit. So it is with families.

WE were ADOPTED to be SONS of the FATHER.

Jesus was born FIRST, but we are ALL sons...
........ (we are SONS of ABBA FATHER also, not slaves or servants of Him like the Jews in Revelation).

Rom 8:29 that he might be the FIRSTBORN among many brethren (this means BROTHERS of Jesus).

Rev 1:1 to shew unto his SERVANTS things which must shortly come to pass (the Jews were SERVANTS)

Rom 8:15 but ye have received the Spirit of ADOPTION whereby we cry, Abba FATHER

Rom 8:23 waiting for the ADOPTION to wit, the redemption of our body

Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the ADOPTION as SONS

Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the ADOPTION OF CHILDREN

///...A Priest pointed out...the word 'begat' with Jacob.

Jesus is just listed as being born of Mary. Matthew 1:16

...Jacob begat Joseph... husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus...

...it is neat...the similarities of...Jacob of the OT and his son Joseph to the NT Jacob and Joseph.

Joseph (OT) went to Egypt by force, but later on made in charge of Egypt's whole... food source (grain) which everyone went there to receive so not to die.

...Joseph (NT) took...Jesus to Egypt (Bread of life)... to save His life.
---Nicole_Lacey on 9/10/16///

Very good Nikki. The begats first listed with Adam who begat sons & daughters. Begat is a thread that runs throughout the Bible (Old & New Testament).

We just had the whole 1st chapter of Matthew the other day at Mass.

A Priest pointed out how the word 'begat' with Jacob.

Jesus is just listed as being born of Mary.

Matthew 1:16

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ

Plus, it is neat to realize the similarities of the old Jacob of the OT and his son Joseph to the NT Jacob and Joseph

Joseph (OT) went to Egypt by force, but later on made in charge of Egypt's whole livelihood food source (grain) which everyone went there to receive so not to die.

As Joseph (NT) took the Jesus to Egypt (Bread of life) for protection in order to save His life.
Many more

It is is referring to the next generations.

In my own family I could say that John begat Peter then Peter begat Robert and Robert begat Timothy etc. It shows lineage.

If the bible referred to women in the same way it would say Jennifer 'gave birth to' Susan and Susan gave birth to Pamela etc.
---Rita_H on 9/10/16

The son of a father has been BEGOTTEN of that father (the OFFSPRING of the father).

Names in Hebrew and Latin/Spanish often show the family relation (Juan De Carlos is the son of Mister Carlos.....David Ben Jesus is the son of Mr. Jesus).

WE are supposed to be SONS of God (of which JESUS is the FIRSTBORN Son of God because He was BEGOTTEN of The Father (we weren't BEGOTTEN of The Father, but we are Jesus's BROTHERS/brethren).

THAT is how we are PREDESTINED (by being a SON, not a slave/servant of God).
