Water Over The Sky
...question remains - what did the animals eat initially, if the local food supply was destroyed? ...

Exactly, global flood proponents cannot abide you asking these kinds of questions they have no answer for. There was a flood, it was huge covering probably 450,000 sq miles. Noah and his kind had to eat. The sparse country would soon be back in its own balance.
7 each of the edible/clean in 5 years can produce an incredibly fast base for man to live off of. Goats/Sheep can breed twice per year and have more than one offspring. Which are able to breed within months.
Deer/Cattle types, one. Do some math on it.

Assuming the flood WERE local, why would God need to take great care to preserve 2 of every kind? That would not be necessary if others lived elsewhere. Still, the question remains - what did the animals eat initially, if the local food supply was destroyed? And if they did NOT survive, why would God have bothered to painstakingly save them in the first place?

I think we are getting a little off track. I think the question was about the water above the firmament, not about the deluge.

As far as incongruent beliefs, Genesis also has its own problems. What did animals on the ark eat for a year? ... But what did they eat after? How long could carnivores live without meat - which wouldn't be there until herbivores had young? Even herbivores would have problems - most plants would not have survived under miles of water.

Erets the hebrew word is a huge key. There was a flood, it destroyed Noahs/Adams mixed/ corrupted lineage too that point. There was no Noah world wide flood.

Can we be sure that all the water that was above came down during the great flood?

Gen 1:6 And GodH430 said,H559 Let there beH1961 a firmamentH7549 in the midstH8432 of the waters,H4325 and letH1961 it divideH914 H996 the watersH4325 from the waters.H4325
From H7554, properly an expanse, that is, the firmament or (apparently) visible arch of the sky: - firmament.
A primitive root, to pound the earth (as a sign of passion), by analogy to expand (by hammering), by implication to overlay (with thin sheets of metal): - beat, make broad, spread abroad (forth, over, out, into plates), stamp, stretch.

A lot of water came down to flood the whole earth, in the time of Noah. If that water above is what came down, it now is no longer up there.

I assume it is what the scripture says it is--water.

...seperated the water under the expanse from the water above it....called the expanse"sky"...

I think he is talking about the firmament described with water above it.
