Revelation 21:1 - And I saw a new heaven and earth : For the first heaven and the first earth has passed away and there was no more sea,
---RichardC on 2/7/17|
Richard, yes, Jesus was given all power in Heaven and earth but as He has stated, His Kingdom is not of this world. He is the King of the Kingdom of Heaven, therefore those on earth who will enter into His Kingdom will be in the world but not a part of it. John 17:14-26, John 3:18-21. Someday soon God will empower His Heavenly kingdom on earth to defeat the kingdom of the world ruled by Satan. Dan 2:44, Dan 7:27, Rev 11:14-19.
Yes, the prince of this world has been judged and stands condemned but as we can see by looking around us, he has not yet been destroyed, although he knows he has only a short time left. Rev 12:7-17, John 16:11.

Barb - satan is the ruler of this world /
Matthew 28:18 - And Jesus came and spake unto them saying all power is given to unto me in heaven and earth,
( The cross was the death blow to satan )

Mike, God does seem He is on a different page then us.
---Luke on 1/23/17
God doesn't exist for us, but for himself...
John Piper once said, "God Is Most Glorified in Us When We Are Most Satisfied in Him..."

Yes, it is good you have a basis for what you believe.

Mike, Pilot had the Truth standing right there in front of him but didn't recognize Him. He heard what he wanted to hear "my kingdom is not of this world" and so Pilot knew Jesus was no threat to him because Pilot's kingdom was of this world.
Jesus also said "he who is of the truth hears my voice", if Pilot was interested in the truth he would have paid attention instead of asking what is truth after he had just been told.
There is only one truth but there are all kinds of lies to confuse and deceive us, therefore we must have a standard for truth. My standard for truth is the Law and the Prophets and the Testimony of Jesus.
---barb on 1/27/17|
People do seek truth. But as Pilot asked, "WHAT IS TRUTH?"
---mike4879 on 1/26/17|
Mike, yes. Life had gotten easier for the Israelites but when Moses went up the mountain and didn't come back down after many days they thought he was dead. They did not trust God. They had just witnessed one of the greatest miracles of all time, the parting of the waters and had just walked through the sea on dry land.
The people had also seen God defeat the gods of the Egyptians and the miracle of Passover but when they thought that they had been abandoned in the middle of nowhere they reverted to the gods of Egypt. Sadly, the people of today are the same. Without blessings, signs and wonders they loose their trust in God and believe lies rather than seek truth.

Barb, you state
"The first thing they did when the going got tough was build a golden calf."
The going had gotten MUCH EASIER (not tough) preceding the children of Israel building the Golden Calf for which they gave the Golden Calf ALL OF THE CREDIT for all of the improvements and all of the great signs and wonders and for leading them out of Egypt, and they had a wild sinful party. Things had gotten better, not worse before they did this.

I haven't read that book but I'm more concerned that God might be disappointed in me.
Satan is the ruler of this world. John 14:30-31. God is the King of the Kingdom of the Heavens which is not of this world. John 18:33-37. If you want to connect with God you have do it spiritually. It is important to know the God you are worshipping otherwise you might be worshipping what you do not know. John 4:21-26.
Consider the Israelites who saw all kinds of miracles from God yet the first thing they did when the going got tough was to make themselves a golden calf. Miracles, answered prayers, manna from Heaven, nothing was good enough for them.

If God was putting his right foot forward to honor our prayers, then why did Phillip Yancey write the book, "Disappointment With God"? and why has this book, "Disappointment With God" been a best seller amongst christians?
---mike4879 on 1/24/17|
Mike, I never said that all my prayers are answered. I have faced many a crisis and never seen a miracle but have always received peace, calmness and strength to lead me through, whether it be the loss of a loved one or a mess of my own making.
God told Moses why he couldn't enter the promised land in Numbers 20:12. Moses did not believe God and disobeyed a direct command from Him. We know that Moses repented because we see him with Jesus and Elias at Jesus' transfiguration. Jesus said this about chastisement "As many as I love I rebuke and chasten, be zealous therefore and repent." Rev 3:19.
I won't get into Paul here because he is a whole different story and it would take me beyond the word limit.
---barb on 1/24/17|
Mike, EVERYTHING that is important to you IS important to God. Why, because YOU are important to God.
---kathr4453 on 1/24/17|
Luke, I believe God answers EVERY prayer of believers......it's either, YES, NO, or WAIT.
---kathr4453 on 1/23/17|
Barb, Are you saying that Paul was NOT IN CHRIST, when though THREE TIMES HE ASKED, the Lord refused him? (2 Corinthians 12:8) Are you saying Moses was not in relationship with God when God refused MOSES entry into the promised land after the waters of Meribah? Are you more in Christ than these? and that why your prayers are more honored by God?
LET US BE HONEST. You find in the church among the followers of Christ endless samples of God putting his right foot forward to honor our prayers OR LIKE HEBREWS 11:13? "All these people were still living by faith when they died. They DID NOT RECEIVE THE THINGS PROMISED, they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth."
---mike4879 on 1/23/17|
Mike, the problem here is in the teaching we get from the pulpit that says Jesus has done it all for us and we need do nothing. "If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you." John 15:1-27. Most folks miss or ignore that little word "if".
"And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him Because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight." 1st John 3:1-24.
---barb on 1/23/17|
Mike, God does seem He is on a different page then us. And He is. His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts.
Why does it seem He answers some prayers and not others? There is many reasons. Some because people ask for foolish things. Some because He has already completed His plan on everything.
If He knows everything, then He already knows what is in store for all of us. While we are in time, God is outside of time. In the beginning He called all things to be. And now they are.
---Luke on 1/23/17|
Many things are important to God that are not important to us, kathr. Do not be deceived. Every good and perfect gift is from God. We are told to ask. Ask and you will receive. Abraham wanted a son. Hannah also. Not everyone who asks receives. Life is more than food. The body is more than clothes. Not speaking of wealth. Not everyone is asking for wealth, or a fancy car or to win the lottery. People pray for health and pray for people and pray on matters. Of people asking for good, why it seem God is on a different page?
---mike4879 on 1/22/17|
Maybe something is important to God that is not important to you. Do you know what is important to God? He spoke His expectations through the Law and the Prophets and the testimony of His Son.
When Jesus said "ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened onto you" He was talking about spiritual things. Jesus promised His disciples that they would be clothed and fed but also warned that they would be persecuted and hated in the kingdom of the world where Satan reigns. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" things like wisdom, integrity and truth. Matt 7:7-27, Matt 6:20-34.
---barb on 1/22/17|
How is the "Ask and you will receive" in your life?
---mike4879 on 1/21/17|
I believe that God is passionately interested in all the desires of His children, even if it's necessary to teach some of them that what they want is not necessary.
Glory to Jesus Christ!
