Most Dangerous Preacher

You got me, Pastor Jim! I will make this my last blog, and fess up. I am eighty years old. I accepted Christ decades ago in a young people's revival in a town named Maud. My Daddy was a preacher. My "sinful lifestyle" is that I sometimes forget to take birdseed out to the back yard, and I worry that a government panel will decide when I die. You keep on setting people straight, and I will keep on loving God the best way I know how. Don't cry for me--who I am is who I want to be. I love my lot! Goodbye and God bless you.

PASTOR JIM and KarenD: I am greatly relieved that bloggers can only throw words, not stones, or I would be running for safety from you two! Since you both are so informed about the Bible, check out the many differences cited between knowledge and wisdom. About Hell, my believing it is being absent from God rather than being eternal literal burning: what I believe about it made it possible for me to accept Christ in Love, not just in Fear.

Most Dangerous Preacher

KarenD: Yes, at Judgment the same gentle Jesus will judge how we each chose to use our God's-Image free will while we lived. Those who chose to "build up treasures on earth" will realize that party is over, and they will be building nothing from that point. Those who chose to "build up treasures in Heaven" will hear "well done" and continue. The word Hell rears its ugly head in discussions such as this. I believe much about Hell has been misinterpreted in the Bible, and the real meaning of it has no connection with eternal, living agony, but is simply filling the choice of some to be separate from God.

KarenD: If you check my response to this blog on 10-26, I indicated Joel Osteen uses SLY gentleness to hook people's greed. There is a difference between using gentleness as a weapon and feeling it as a good Samaritan. You have heard "buck up", "man up", "soldier up", I believe Jesus asks us to "gentle up" to carry His message of giving, not getting.

KarenD: Glad you asked where does Jesus say He is gentle. Check Matthew 11:28-30: "Come unto Me all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest....Take my yoke upon you and learn of Me.....for I am gentle, meek, humble, lowly in heart....you will find rest for your souls." Translations vary the "gentle" word, but the meaning is clear. Not pointing a finger at you, but I wish the bloggers on this site would all put on a yoke of gentleness when they write.

KarenD: Jesus called himself "gentle" and I would love to have heard and seen the way he perhaps miraculously caused his message to the 5000 to be received in the full gentleness of the meaning of "blessed are the pure in heart". But the sound systems of today give current preachers no excuse to sound like roaring lions.

KarenD: Read Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, and try to picture Jesus, seated, yelling these words at the people. And these words don't sound like he was "tickling ears" because of course He was preaching Truth. And walking while preaching is okay, just not walking in a way that draws attention to the speaker himself instead of what he is saying.

Listen, and watch, to see whether the preacher speaks and acts like Jesus. Jesus did not yell his teachings, or strut and move in ways that detracted from the message. One notable scene of Jesus angry was overturning the MONEY changers tables in the temple. Of course there are preachers who can be softspoken and sly at the same time if their messages play to the listeners' greed instead of compassion, example Joel Osteen.

Were There Christian Presidents

This discussion should include Jimmy Carter as a President who was also a Christian. He taught Sunday School for years.

Christ's Third Coming To Earth

1st cliff: I thought that when Jesus died on the cross, his spirit left the earthly body and during the time his body was in the tomb his spirit went to take care of some important business for the souls who had died before Jesus was crucified. To me, that is "leaving the Earth." But I could be mistaken.

Worst American President

I believe it is too early to tell whether the situations in place as Obama came into office will be fixable. Luck, good and bad, enter into results. Also, human prejudice regarding intelligence, political party, race, sex, age, and more play a part, and the more citizens have access to sounds and pictures and opinions of a president, the greater the chance of human prejudice entering the outcome of opinion polls.

Christian Radio Show Name

Maybe "Is The Bible Reliable?"

Is Christian Television Relevant

I recommend RADIO broadcast of religious programs rather than TV, because there is less opportunity for those who want to strut their own ego. Another good listening place is church services on computer. Also on Sunday regular networks carry local church services where less vanity shows up. There is one TV service where I see no strutting and much sincere devotion, the Rejoice TV broadcast from Pensacola Florida Christian College campus. It is on Day Star in my area at 7:00 Central time, Sunday evening. Even the song service is humble and old fashioned and good.

Does Spiritual Pride Exist

Until God shuts Satan down completely, we will be nagged by questions like: Is this scripture interpretation correct... am I being led by the Holy Spirit or by Satan? Our surest way to know God's will is being served is to ask IS IT LOVING? If our act is loving it is of God.

James Robison Ski House

These days the matter of charitable contributions, whether "religious" or other, is a troublesome one. Every day my mail is predominately requests for money, from multiple cancer associations, veterans groups, police organizations, Campus Crusade for Christ, etc. We want our money to help the needy, not go into a millionaire's bank account. There are web sites that evaluate the bookkeeping of charities, but again are they trustworthy. The Lord's Prayer asks for "daily bread" not treasure to fill storehouses. I believe the more we want the less we love.

Is God Cruel And Mean

Cliff and Leon--I am trusting that Christian love is behind your words! Satan wants to make you enemies of each other. Don't give him satisfaction.

Is God Cruel And Mean

1st cliff - Could it be that Satan is behind urging this false picturing of God as vicious and torturing? I am beginning to see Satan as the source of all that is deceitful, unloving, and otherwise negative. Maybe when harsh, negative, things arise, we should never fault God or one of his children, but Satan, who started his cruel and mean activity with mankind in the Garden of Eden. Let's say it together: "Damn you, Satan!"

My Family Is In Hell

Whether you believe God dispenses to non-believers instant death by burning or eternal torture, there is another crucial point: we have a choice to accept or not to accept Jesus' salvation offer, but no human that I know of has a CHOICE about whether to be born. I believe God is not a monster. He knows who will accept Christ, and he will not "set some up" by giving them life with torture attached. There is a loving solution that we will learn about in time.

Is God Cruel And Mean

JANZE- Thank you for the Scriptures. To me, they show the immenseness of Gods power and love and majesty. I am moving toward realizing God gives us in the Word a clear picture of our human situation, our free will, and how to solve it, but there may be things not written that involve his equal treatment of his children. LEON-You picture a person repenting in Hell, a horrible scene, and I live in trust that God has a loving answer for that.
