Another Great Depression Coming

Collapse is a more likely scenario. We have spent recklessly and have set up permanent entitlements which grow exponentially far beyond the revenue to pay for them. This is the sub-prime mortgage scenario, only now it's the U.S. Government, not an individual homeowner or a car company. Unless drastic cost cutting measures are enacted, we will soon be insolvent. At least half of all Americans receive some sort of regular government check, so politicians do not have the guts to cut spending. America will be seen as "too big to fail" by our creditors and will need to be bailed out, foreclosed, reorganized, pick your term. The worthless dollar would be scrapped for a single world currency with a world governing body.

Nurse, whatever you my write or not write won't impact my happiness whatsoever. It's just puzzling to me why you take blog postings so personally. The "chip" I picture on your shoulder comes from the fact that your only response to posts you don't like is to start calling names and bring up talk shows and TV networks which you seem obsessed with. You would be more credible by pointing how liberal democrat policies have succeeded in adding to the practical and moral well being of society. Of course since liberal ideas always fail and only compound problems, name calling and berating someone's intelligence is apparently all you've got.

Stay put. It's your house, too. You have to realize that she has been thinking about this for a long time and she has planned what she wants to do. She is many steps ahead of you. My former wife pulled the same stunt. I immediately contacted an attorney who said to absolutely not move out of the house. That only strengthens her case, should it come to a divorce. You can try the counseling route, but the fact is if she is set on divorcing you, there isn't much that will stop her. If she does file, hire an attorney to make sure that the best interests of you and your daughter are protected.

There is no denying that many women who want out of a marriage will classify just about anything as "abuse" to justify her decision to dump her husband. If it's not physical, then it's verbal abuse, if not verbal then it's emotional abuse. I've even seen a new one: spiritual abuse. This whole group of terms is a catch-all for everything and anything that a husband has ever done, not done, said, not said, thought about, not thought about. The true shame of it all is that the word "abuse" has been so misused that the meaning has become watered down.

Pres. Obama is the one equating health and auto insurance. Either he's dumb or he thinks we are all dumb. Car insurance is not mandated by Congress. Your state requires it only if you plan to drive a car. The required minimum covers other people from costs incurred by your actions. It doesn't cover you. People like Larry who talk about "government" evidently don't grasp the distinction between the Federal, State and local governments. The Federal government is given very limited powers over lives of citizens. Nothing in the Constitution empowers the Feds to order citizens to purchase a product or service. What's next, a mandate that all must buy 2 gallons of milk weekly and 12 oranges monthly? And your car must be GM.

Why have elective medical procedures such as lasik eye surgery actually come down in cost? The answer is because when insurance doesn't cover something, the patient (i.e. the consumer) actually cares about the price. He shops around, hence competition, hence lower prices. When insurance, private or government, is going to cover the cost, the patient couldn't care less what the pricetag is. If the boss is paying the dinner bill, most people will order the lobster instead of the burger. People also misuse insurance by using it for basic office visits. That's like using your auto insurance to pay for an oil change or new tires. Costs are ridiculous because most people don't pay their own medical bills, nor do they think they should.

StrongAxe, I am in no way a supporter of those camps. My whole point was that it was a liberal democrat policy enacted by a liberal democrat president. Of course those people were worse off after they left. That's is always the outcome of liberal policies. People get hurt. Nurse, are you saying it's my "opinion" that FDR set up the camps? Do you really need a source for that? Are you saying that it's "conjecture" to point out that Social Security, Medicare, and the health bill that passed the House are democrat programs? How is it opinion when I say that participation is mandatory and leaving those programs is not an option? I know I can't opt out. Can you?

	What is this notion that the U.S is a wealthy nation? We are 12 trillion dollars in debt with well over a trillion in yearly deficits, thanks to big government programs. Where is the "wealth" that people are citing?

It was FDR, the liberal Democrat icon of all time, that set up those camps. So I'm not sure why Nurse is so bothered. That type of thing is standard operating procedure for "progressives". They set up programs that most people would not voluntarily join so they order people to do what they want through force of government law. Liberty is anathema to the liberal. Social Security, Medicare, and now government health care in which you are ordered to participate or face fines and/or jail time. It's simply a continuation of the liberal MO propelled by supporters like NR. At least the people in the internment camps were eventually allowed to leave and go back home. There is no leaving Democrat entitlement programs.

Don't get on NurseRobert's case too much. It's obvious that his obsession with guys like he mentioned (me included) is his subconscious trying to pull him toward what's good and right. He is having an internal struggle. He will see the light one day, as any intelligent person does. Gotta love the liberal mindset. Let the illegal migrants work in the fields for chump change because we want cheap lettuce. Meanwhile, keep writing unemployment checks to citizens who could be doing that work. Then we get dumb questions like "how many "citizens" are going to go work the fields to bring in crops?" The answer is as many as are willing to. The teen unemployment rate is over 25%. You don't think American teenagers and younger people would be willing to take on the jobs now monopolized by illegals? When I was a teen, we worked on farms, washed dishes, etc. All the jobs that the "elite" say Americans won't do. I think it's just the liberal elite's that can't imagine doing actual work.

	I love Starbucks coffee. I haven't noticed anything written on the cups. I'm more interested in the contents of said cup. They are really no more expensive than any other coffee shop for regular plain old brewed coffee. It's the lattes and cappuccinos that are expensive, but it's a real treat to splurge on the pumpkin spice latte every so often. Mmm good.
