| What's Up In November 2009 | |
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I will miss the holiday this year since I have a knee replacement the day before. It has been canceled twice before for not-very-serious health concerns. I can walk only a short distance (with a cane), but have some sense of foreboding about this procedure. I've had more serious surgeries in the past without any fear, so please, if you think of it, pray for me. Bless you all!
| Will America Be Destroyed | |
larry... we have been "admired" world-wide for at at least half a century, maybe more. I didn't say we were admired for our "goodness". The admiration of men means nothing in Heaven, anyway. We are "admired" (not praised...that's something entirely different) because of the standard of living we've developed. THAT's why people want to come here. They want the luxeries enjoyed by middle class America. Much of the everyday comforts we take for granted are truly luxeries in the rest of the world. People who live under the most oppressive governments may "admire" us for the democracy and liberty we enjoy.
| What Is An Asherah Pole | |
Asherah pole, the origin of the Christmas tree? That's a stretch. " O Christmas tree" or " O Tannenbaum" is an old German secular Yuletide song "worshiping" nothing.

I, personally, am not incensed about this because I know Mima and have some idea what he preaches. I don't see how it could have any harmful effects. There are some whose preaching to my kids would be upsetting. BUT I am for freedom of speech. Lately, we have tried to legislate whatever people say and even think! The world will always be full of people with whom we disagree... strongly. Where our children are concerned we have two choices. 1. Don't let them out of your sight or 2. Do your best to prepare them (even on how to handle predators) for the adult world they are soon to enter
| Will America Be Destroyed | |
...Speaking of Tyranny, Thomas Jefferson said "When the people fear the government, you have tyranny. When the government fears the people, you have liberty". It seems that anymore the government not only doesn't fear the people, it doesn't even listen to them. For they have concluded that THEY know what is best for all of us. Our "patriotic" duty is to shut up and get out of the way.
| Holy Spirit Tingles Inside | |
Rhonda-- you know nothing about me. I have raised children and I won't keep silent just because you say so. I've learned over the years that you can't control other people. You can only control your own reactions to them. I've taught my children the same thing.
| Must Gospel Be Preached To All | |
Tommy3007- I agree with you. There may be a few rare languages or dialects into which the Gospel hasn't been transcribed. But I think we are very close to covering them all.
| Holy Spirit Tingles Inside | |
Rhonda--Whether or not speaking to your daughter in this manner was good judgement, is a matter of opinion. your daughter needs to learn to deal with such situations. Strangers we meet may say any number of things...often even more offensive than this. If your daughter reported such a thing to you, you would have to help her understand it and help her learn respond to such things. The man was in his own home, speaking his mind. He did not "lure" her to his front door and she was free to leave. He was within his rights and there is nothing you can do about it.
| Speaking In Tongue For Everyone | |
Atheist--From my experience with Rosetta Stone, there is no way they could possibly teach "tongues" by their method. I think you must be mistaken or misled.
| Why Do People Leave Church | |
Pastor Jim, are you recommending we stay AWAY from church? How do you interpret this? 1Cr 12:13-15 and 18-20 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body Should we go it alone... or meet with others and not call it "church"?
| Cyber Churches Gaining | |
It's not taking technology too far. A cyber church can be a great blessing to those who cannot find, or get to a church. It can also be a hindrance to spiritual growth for some. Some choose the cyber-church so they can avoid personal accountability and face-to-face interaction.
| Will America Be Destroyed | |
Steveng- Thanks for mentioning in detail this contribution of Buth to the African continent. So few know of it, and he never drew attention to it. The Nobel Peace Prize, as we all know, is more a political award than anything else. Gotta wonder about those who would grant Yasser Arafat a "peace" prize.
| Xmas Is Same As Christmas | |
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all who celebrate the earthy coming of our glorious Savior and King, Jesus Christ.
| Few Find The Narrow Gate | |
Duane -- I understand exactly what you mean, and the truth of it, but Jesus never recommended anybody enter the "wide" gate (whatever you take that to mean).
| Break Off An Engagement | |
Sorry. YOU may have been committed to marriage, but he wasn't. He is "married in the eyes of the Lord" until he wants out...then he doesn't consider himself married at all (he's NOT, legally). So off he goes, without a pang of conscience, It's not only guys who do this, either. It's easy in the haze of love and hormones to swear "committment" to each other...easy to say a marriege certificate is just a piece of paper or marriage wasn't required in the Bible. (if not, what does "Do not commit adultery mean?) But this type of committment is ALMOST ALWAYS temporary. A legal marriage promotes real committment (which is hard enough to maintain even then). Please don't let yourself get hurt this way again.
| Witness To Exchange Student | |
Cluny's advice is excellent. If she is a new believer, she doesn't need a "witness"... but she probably has many, many questions. Answer the best you can, but don't think you have to know it all... (Ask your pastor if you don't know how to answer) Maybe you could help by getting her a Bible in German. Actually, you could have a good time asking her to try translating a scripture or two from German to English. Then compare to what your English Bible says.
| Pastor Gives Tithes Back | |
I think he is very shrewd. After three months, who would have the nerve to tell him, "God hasn't blessed me at all and I want my money back" He's betting,... NOBODY!
| Will America Be Destroyed | |
larry-- We have been the most "admired" country for a long time. People from every country jump at a chance to move here and enjoy our way of lfe... it's been that way for many years. That doesn't mean they always like our government, depending on international conditions. BUT we are far from universally hated, as some of our own citizens would like us to believe. You are so right about Africa. Bush deservedly received a more enthusiatic reception there than even Obama.
| Claim You Are Christian | |
larry--I don't agree that the divisions are due mostly to politics, although a lot of Christians have strong political feelings, especially in the very politicized atmosphere that prevails just now. Even in Christendom, there are "liberal" churches and "conservative" churches, divided mainly on Biblical interpretation (politics incidental). These churches may disagree, over even the basic question of "what is a Christian". The majority of quarrels (and some of the most heated) on this site, seems to me, revolve around this question. Unity of Spirit would be great, but regrettably, I don't expect to see much of it here.
