| Burn In Hell For Eternity | |
Cluny ... Lee is the chap that has been accused of being a reincarnation of MikeM. Now MikeM was previously SLCguy. And it was Jerry or another of his friends who accused me of being MikeM Don't worry about it!
| Does Predestination Teach Love | |
Duane ... You may call the blog insane ... but Calvin, on whose teachings MarkV's ideas about Predestination rest, said: "God has determined in Himself what He would have become of every individual of mankind. For they are not all created with a similar destiny, but eternal life is fore-ordained (NB, not 'fore-known') for some, and eterrnal damnation for others. Every man, therefore, being created for one or other of these ends, we say, he is predestined either to life or to death"
| Ten Commandments In Force | |
MarkV ... You've hit the nail on the head! Who is to say which day of our week is the actual accurate anniversary of the day God started Creation? The Bible doesn't say. And if we read Ex 20.9 & 9, we see "Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work .. but the seventh is the sabbath" It doesn't say which six days. If I first worked on a Wednesday, strict literal obedience to those verses would mean that ever since then, I would have to observe the "Sabbath" on Tuesdays. Insistence on treating Saturday (or indeed Sunday) as the day for Sabbath observance is religious legalism gone mad. No Christian would be abe to take a job, say medical, involving Saturday or Sunday working.
| What Is Progressive Christianity | |
Donna ... I had never before heard of "progressive Christianity" Tammy Schaeffer's first paragraph describing its core values may be accurate. However, his second paragraph is totally misplaced. The promotion of "mercy and justice, compassion, anti-discrimination, environmental issues, and ways to address poverty" spring directly from Jesus, and His command to love our neighbour, and God's command via Adam to care for the world. TS perhaps is one of those who twist fundamentalism to justify personal corporate and national selfishness?
| Living In The End Times | |
Welcome back, Frances, I had missed your contributions. I agree with yuo that the dangers are greater now, but I think it is because the weapons are more powerful, not because people have become more evil. Biblical history shows men were as devious and traitorous as now. I agree with you that we are no more intelligent than before ... indeed we are just as foolish! ... but Steveng had referred to us having more knowledge, and this is true ... it is only in the last few years thatr we had the knowledge tro build nuclear weaplons, and still mopre recently the technology to deliver those weapons. That is knowledge, not intelligence.
| Did Jesus Drink Alcohol | |
Samuel ... I made wine from grape juice with no problem. It is a natural process. If you don't keep the fermenting liquid properly covered, bot air and the dreaded "vinegar fly" will get at it, and it will indeed change to vinegar. But with proper care and hygeine, you get wine.
| Are Catholics Doomed To Hell | |
To go on from what Mod says, many "Christians" are not real Christians.
| Explain John Chapter 3 | |
Alicia ... What happens if there is no water available? What happens if there is no-one else around to perform the baptism? You seem to be saying that our salvation is dependant on physical works not only by ourselves but also by someone else.
| Daughter Lied To CPS | |
Betty ... You are so right here. I know a family where exactly this situation occurred. Eventually the allegations were porved to be true. In another caee, the mother reported her suspicions to the church, but she and girls were thrown, because the father was an elder. Again it turned out the girls (all three) had told the truth about being abused.
| Wearing Pants To Church | |
Andy ... What makes you say I think the kilt is feminine? It most certainly is not. The reason I mentioned the kilt was to show that real manly men wear a costume which an unknowledgeable observer might see as being similar to a female skirt. That does not mean wearing it is contrary to scripture. The wearing by ladies of a bottom half garment with two tubes around the legs is no more unscriptural than the wearing by men of a garment that does not have tubes
| Wearing Pants To Church | |
Well, we have a lot of experts on the kilt! I tought I knew all about them, but then Andy tells us something new, and then Allan come in with something else! Now Betty says the kilt did not originate in Britain ... I expect it actually come across from Europe as the Celts were driven westwards by the next invading hoard. But Betty, do you have anything more specific? ... it would be interesting to know! But Betty, you do have to understand that it is the tradition that Scotsmen regard the kilt as being adequate wear for the lower half! Maybe there are those that do not, but it is largely the tradition.
| What Are Unitarian Beliefs | |
In London yesterday, I passed by a Unitarian Church Clearly it was one of the Universalist lot, for they advertised inter alia: Tai Chi Buddhist meditation Pagan services Hindhu Humanistic studies I suppose I have to admit there were one or two things that could have related to Christianity. How can they call that a "Church"? I was amused to see they had a U-Knitarian sewing group!!
| Is Remarriage Adultery | |
Elder ... it goes further than that, doesn't it, and seems rather harsh. For if a wife commits adultery, and the husband divorces her, then he may remarry, but she may not (which is OK) But if the husband commits adultery, and his wife divorces him, he may not remarry, (which is OK) but neither may she, even tho' she is innocent. I know this is what the Bible says, and I know God does not have to give a reason for any rules, but is there a Biblical reason given for this apparently unfair difference in the rules for innocent husbands and innocent wives? I've not found one.

Hi Frances, I think sometimes non-traditional names are chosen to shock, but I suspect usually it is to register individuality, and I don't think there is anything wrong in that. In fact it could be regarded as a healthy rebellion against the sameness that the state is trying to impose on us. Not all traditional names mean anything, or are not recognised as meaning anything. My own is an example of this ... so what is the point of me having a name which may mean something, but no-one knows it? What you say about the Japanese language shows the value of keeping cultural traditions, in this instance, against the increasing dominance and occasional sterility of the English language
| Identifying False Teachers | |
Steveng ... "And you would say the same thing to Jesus" Ande so, I think, would you, if your utterances about other Christians are anything to go by. Whhat right have you to say "I and my kind, am a member of the Kingdom of God not a member of a denomination. Ours is a strong relationship with God through Jesus, Not a relationship with Jesus through a denomination" as if members of denominations are not members of the Kingdom of God, and do not have that SAME strong personal relationship with God? You yourself in claiming your is the only right way
| My Girlfriend Isn't A Virgin | |
Rhonda ... If you read what I said, I think you will realise I that your response should be addressed to Betty.
