Exodus 12:1-2 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,"This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you". According to this verse, the Jewish calendar started with Moses and there is no reason to believe it reflected anything the Egyptians or other tribes possesses. So we can reasonably believe that the Sabbath also started with Moses since we can find nothing about its observance prior to his time. As to the 6 literal day thing, the record simply does not support that view.

Abraham was a friend of God not because he observed the law but because he believed. It was his faith that God had in view. Jas 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousnessand he was called a friend of God. The law that Abraham observed was the natural law of his conscience. As he walked with God, his conscience became a reliable guide.

I am surprised that there are still those out there that want to preach what we may eat or drink, what days we are to observe or not observe, how we pray, etc. etc. etc. in accordance to laws given in the Old Covenant to the Jewish nation alone. Of course, it is human vanity for one to be viewed as 'religious' much like the show the Pharisees put on for themselves to be seen of others. Is not the root cause simply one of pride in ones own sense of righteousness?

Ignatius - in this day and age, it has been very common for many to switch from one denomination to another. But such is the story with those who are centered not on Christ but on denominations. The door are swinging both ways. Frankly Schaffer was more of a religious philosophy than a Spirit led Christian. I have read some of his works and considered them more of a waste of time than anything else.

In OT times, the woman that committed adultery was to be stoned, thus permitting the man to be single and thus re-marry. I sense that one of your problems is that you fail to interpret scripture with scripture. You can do what Jesus stated in Mark and ignore what He stated in Matthew. Nor can you reject what the Spirit of Jesus is saying through St. Paul. And I agree it is those who cry adultery are the ones who probably have a fear their own marriage may fall apart.

Very good to see that the word of God is making some headway into those denominations that have preached tradition and obedience to their hierarchy for centuries. Cluny -Since I was an Episcopalian before I became an Orthodox, I'm in a pretty good position to know how these churches work and the voice and responsibility for laity in them. I am a former Episcopalian, their choir director as well as one of their vestryman - back in the days before they ordained women and gays. So I can say I truly know something about how their church worked. Most of us would prefer a more democratic organization with more of a voice in how our church is run and with more checks & balances against those that would usurp powers over the laity. While you did the right thing in leaving such an organization, it would be a step upward for you to find a good Presbyterian church.

Jesus did recognize divorce can be permitted under certain circumstances. And if divorce dissolves the marriage, then the parties are no longer married. While the record does not say anything about re-marriage of either party, it can be assumed that such is permitted. Wal-rev has an argument with God's ministers who do re-marry those who are divorced. His judgment therefore is against the church and it doctrine that there can be forgiveness and restoration for those who would repent.

Warwick - the most you can conclude about cliff and others is that they may not have reached maturity as far as understanding of the Bible or spiritual things. Looking back some 50 years when I first became a Christian, I can recall that I had little understanding at the time I first came to know Christ. Essentially we all start off as babes in Christ needing to be nourished by His Spirit in His Word. We should not rush to judgment and declare those who disagree with us that they are not Christians. Ruben - **Lee you don't get it, do you? One is way too many to begin with! While very true, it is those denominations that have a rigid hierarchy often protects those that are guilty. The laity have little or no voice in their church. The Roman Church for instance, has traditionally transferred problem priests to other parishes or sent them up to the Jemez Mtn facility here in New Mexico to be cured by prayer. The founder of that facility often labels these priests snakes and recommended they be confined to some facility someplace out in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The Diocese of Santa Fe even considered filing for bankruptcy. But once a priest always a priest? Right?

wal-rev....Yes we can all see that you truly believe that if one divorces for any reason and then re-marries, there can be no forgiveness of sins. I guess your Jesus simply did not bleed enough on the Cross. And those who claim a restoration and blessing from the Lord upon repentance are liars. Romans 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another mans servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. You can have your viewpoint and I will not not waste my time trying to discuss this issue with you as you come across as nothing less than a modern day Pharisees, eager to condemn those who truly love the Lord.

I notice that you cannot provide any dollar figure of lawsuits involving sexual indiscretion of non-catholic groups. You list Anglican/Episcopalian, however those that come under that umbrella are simply another form of Catholicism liken to the Roman or Eastern Orthodox, with its formalized hierarchy permitting little or no voice from the laity. The Anglican church in Canada has had to dole out millions in lawsuits due to mistreatment of its Native American population. Take them out of the data and the non-Catholic statistics look even better.

By the way, during my 30+ years of marriage to a faithful wife, I have seen many different situations from people who have been divorced and re-married. Some are clearly victims of their spouses unfaithfulness. To penalize the innocent victims is not the love that characterizes either God or His church.It is simply hate. Others simply have acknowledged they were not Christians in the first place and should not be held accountable for sins they commit prior to becoming genuine Christians. And not a few have concluded that they simply married outside the will of God in the first place, have repented of their sin and have been restored to the fellowship of the Lord & His church.

Again, you are making unwarranted assumptions in order to support you view of the Young Earth creation theory. The duration between the light God created on the first period of creation to the creation of the sun on the 4th period, could very well have been eons as we measure time.
