| Pastor Gives Tithes Back | |
"He who gives a little will also get little, and he who gives a lot will also get a lot. Everyone according as he chooses in his heart...let him not give grudgingly, or out of distress: for God loves a cheerful giver..." 2 Cor. 9:6-7 RED FLAG!!! Nothing wrong with tithing, so long as that's what's in a person's heart to do (as opposed to being intimidated into doing it). I'm personally skeptical of pastors who have a hard sell mentality & have unaccountable access to, & control over the collected tithes & offerings of their congregation.

MarkV: Aaaa -- I hear you! But, (AGAIN) this blog is about WHY did Mrs. Lot look/turn back to Sodom. Maybe you would want to start a new blog study on OT saints (saved) & aints (unsaved)? Then we (you, me, Trav, etc.) can flesh out (grill) the Bible facts (strong meat) regarding the salvation of OT Hebrews, etc. Brethren, let us drink "new wine" together as we receive the word & allow it to do what God has sent it to do. :) "A more puzzling question... Donna66, 11/20 Good questions Donna. Perhaps we can deal with them on a new blog? Thanks. :)
| David Take Out Goliath | |
When Goliath saw David, he sat down & jokingly asked if David thought he was a dog David could throw sticks for him to fetch. All Goliath saw was a defiant, pubescent little boy. Yet, David's youthful boldness angered Goliath. So, Goliath spewed obscenities at David & determined to kill him. After spirit-filled David said what he was going to do, in the name of the God of Israel, Goliath got up (1 Sam. 17:48) & walked towards David to kill him. It seems, Goliath hadn't drawn any of his weapons. Maybe he wanted to barehandedly rip puny little David from limb-to-limb. But, God had other plans. Goliath fell on his face after being rocked & David (in the Lord's might) unsheathed his sword & killed him (1 Sam. 17:49,51).

"The study of Twins could be another topic." char, 11/18 Balls in your court -- start a Twins blog. :)

That's an incredibly inaccurate spin Ex'. Obviously, you've made up your mind to believe error. I hope you'll one day come to allow, by the leading of God the Holy Spirit, the Bible to speak to you rather than your continuing to hop down the bunny trail of self-interpretation. Peace!!!

"No it['s] not!", Ruben, 11/16 YES IT IS Ruben, when read in right context & with an open-mind to receive the truth: - Jn. 20:18 is explained by Matt. 12:46-50, Mk. 3:31-35. - If you've read G11:26-31, 12:4-5, then G14:4 should be , "crystal clear" in meaning. - G29 also is self-explanatory Ruben. Your argument is futile. :) - "MAYBE"?!!! You don't have to guess as to whether or not Jesus had biological brothers & sisters because THE BIBLE makes it "CRYSTAL CLEAR" to anyone who has an ear to hear...

MarkV: Thanks for your input. :) However, the focus of this blog isn't on the woman's dire consequences for disobeying instructions from the angels of the Lord. I'm curious as to "WHY" she chose to disobey & I believe the Genesis account provides significant clues (nuggets of wisdom), that should not be "overlooked" in this regard. I often think, in talking to other people (even Christians), we tend to see people in the Bible as just people in the Bible, & we don't see them as being just like us with strong emotions & impulses to do right or wrong.

Michael: Do we know for certain the Marriage Traditions of Joseph & Mary's day existed in Abraham & Lot's day? As close as I could get to what you're saying is what appears to be a verbal marriage agreement between Laban & his nephew Jacob (Abraham's grandson) to wed Laban's daughter Rachael. (G29:16-28) Does Scripture imply, at the time of their agreement, whether or not Rachael & Jacob were considered husband & wife even though they didn't consumate their marriage until 14 years later? If what you say is true, Lot may've had just "two" daughters & I'm only left with the G19:12 "SONS" issue. :) Mama Lot may've still turned back for reasons very near & dear to her heart, i.e., her SONS.
| What Is The Mark Of Cain | |
"The Mark of Cain was the same Mark as the Mark of the beast it was the Mark of separation..." Ex', 11/17 Wow!!! That's quite a stretch of your imagination. However, it can't be true since G4:15 says, "the Lord set a mark on Cain." But, in Rev. 13:16 the beast caused people to receive his mark. Therefore, the mark placed on Cain isn't the same MARK.

Michael: When did this Middle Eastern marriage tradition begin?
| What Is The Mark Of Cain | |
Exzucuh: So, do you believe God probably marked Cain with characteristic attributes like Al the great or the pint sized Napoleon to keep his enemies at bay -- from killing him? While I believe the men of renown likely were tyrantical bullies & descendants of Cain, I find what you say very hard to believe of one who was made an outcast, vagabond & fugitive in the earth with no armies to command & protect him from the wrath of "every one". :) No, I'll stick with this pitiful man (Cain) being made into a "GIANT"(a very big guy) for the dread of "every one" & Cain's personal protection.
| Why Did Lot's Wife Look | |
Trav: Lot said (G19:8) he had two daughters living in his house who, "have not known man." Does that mean they were or were not virgins? G19:12 "clearly" makes a distinction between son in law & SONS, & daughters. It seems Lot may've had, not only sons in law (G19:14), but also SONS, & other daughters (married to perhaps bisexual men). If that's the case, it's quite possible the Lots may've also had grandchildren. Are you saying Lot's married daughters were virgins living under his roof because their husbands had no inclination to "know" them? Why then were they married?

Ruben: Yes, it does mean relative (brothers & sisters). No, it doesn't mean "cousins". :) You're taking Mark 6:3 way out of context! When it says son of Mary, it means Jesus was her son. When it says brother[s]...sisters it means they were Jesus' brothers & sisters (sibblings). Rationalize & believe as you like Ruben. But, the Bible is crystal clear & doesn't support your spin on the truth. By the way, at Jesus' crucifixion, John was there with Mary. There's no indication his brothers & sisters were there. Maybe they were afraid and/or ashamed. As the eldest son, Jesus had taken care of Mary. He likely gave that responsibility to John (his cousin) since none of his other sibblings were present.

"They came from Canaan son of Noah." Exzucuh, 11/16 How then do you explain the Genesis 6:4, pre-flood era, GIANTS who lived long before the post-flood times of Canaan & his descendants?
| What Is The Mark Of Cain | |
JackB: That's very, very funny. :D But, Cain was very concerned he'd be physically harmed, even killed. (G4:14-15) While it's true "baldness" likely would've set him apart from the "every one"/"whosoever", I don't believe it would've kept him from being harmed. I believe since Cain rose up, fell upon & killed his brother Abel, the Lord increased his physical size (marked him as a giant, atleast larger than everyone else) to intimidate & keep "every one/whosoever" from trying to harm him less they be killed in the process. Is my belief a gigantic stretch of the imagination? Can any of you better explain, using Bible evidence, where the giants came from? :)
| What Is The Mark Of Cain | |
I didn't mean to insult you & get your hackles up char. Please forgive me. :) Does anyone wonder where the "giants" came from? 1.) G4:14-15 (*Cain: fugitive, feller/felon, vagabond, outcast) 2.) G4:23-24 (slayer) 3.) G6:4 (giants: "big" bullies, tyrants, "men of renown": a mark* or memorial of individuality)
| Why Did Lot's Wife Look | |
Ooookay! Anybody: Besides the two "virgin" daughters that left with Lot & Mrs. Lot, did the Lots have any other children ("married" daughters or sons) & perhaps grandchildren? I can almost hear Mrs. Lot saying, "Oh, my children, my babies!!!"
| Speaking In Tongue For Everyone | |
Lee: I appreciate your honesty. Though extreme, I stand by my "legalistic witchcraft" statement. It is what it is! :) Yes, "The WORD OF GOD...has POWER to change lives." (Acts 1:8 & Ro. 1:16) -- not some conjured up (SELF-willed, SELF-edifying), babbling work of the flesh. The disciples received POWER (revelation knowledge -- Jn. 14:26) after God, the Holy Ghost came upon them (Acts 2:1-4). The POWER enabled them to clearly speak the gospel of Jesus Christ to hearers in their own languages. I believe the gift of tongues was/is just a vehicle (delivery system) to impart/"give" & EMPOWER hearers with the "good news" (gospel).
