Haz27:

Mussonlini was a fascist. He also made the trains run on time. To say "anyone who supports punctuality therefore supports Mussolini, and is therefore a fascist" is logically flawed. You make the same kind of assumptions about who and what I support.

There is much that is right about the right, and much that is wrong about it - same with the left. For Christians to align themselves with either political faction is a marriage made in hell. Jesus was offered rulership on earth at the price of compromise with evil, and he wisely refused. Many Christians over the past millenia, from Popes to Evangelicals, have sadly chosen differently.

Haz27:

You said: StrongAxe, I see your still pushing the Left's endorsement for murdering babies.
and He may be against abortion on demand, BUT above StrongAxe is against those who try to stop abortions and then he falsely alleges no aid is given to poorer countries when aid is given.

I said absolutely nothing of the kind. I was pointing out the hypocricy of those willing to spend much effort and expense to stop abortions - but then care nothing for children after they emerge from the womb - e.g. turning back orphans at the border. This kind of thinking is all too common in right-wing circles.

I applaud those who are concerned with the unborn and stay concerned once they are born.

Haz27:

You said: And the deceitful leftists often use kids amongst illegals to make emotional appeals, without the facts

What about those deceitful rightists who are more than willing to pump millions of dollars into trying to stop abortions in third world countries, but once those children are born and safely out of the womb, they are left to their own devices, with no help from us?

Did Life Begin On Earth

Warwick:

Creationwiki (with a Creationist bias) mentions "General Theory of Evolution", as defined by Gerald A. Kerkut. One hears about this mostly on creationist sites. It is not in common usage.

Conservapedia (with a similar bias) admits "evolution is most commonly used to describe Darwinian evolution by means of natural selection." - i.e. NOT cosmology.

It's fruitless to attack a seldom-used meaning of a word different from what people understand it to mean - especially as the common usage is related to this blog topic ("Did Life begin on Earth"?), while the General Theory is not (i.e. how the earth got here has no bearing on how life got here).

Two World Floods

It's always dangerous to build any kind of important doctrine (let alone an entire philosophy) based on the specific nuance or translation of a single word or phrase. Many kinds of weird doctrines have started out this way (for example, the Mormons' practice of "baptism for the daad").

Did Life Begin On Earth

jerry6593:

Regardless of whether or not you believe evolution and cosmology are science or fiction, the fact remains that they are different things, and that Darwin's Theory of Evolution says NOTHING WHATSOEVER about how the sun, earth and stars were created. Claiming that evolution DOES speak about them indicates either ignorance of what it says (so attacking it is like criticizing cheese without ever having eaten it), or callous indifference (with a respect for truth on the same level as supermarket tabloids), or deliberate deception (on the level of political propaganda). So which is it?

Did Life Begin On Earth

Warwick:

You have parroted this list here frequently, but let's examine it:

Evolution: Stars and sun before earth.
Evolution: Earth molten blob initially
Evolution: Dry land then oceans

Evolution only speaks about how species formed, NOT planets or stars. That's cosmology. If you can't tell the difference between these vastly different sciences, how can you expect anyone to take any other points (even valid ones) seriously?

Bible: big bang future.
BCV please.

Darwinian evolution ... is based upon there being no God

Wrong. It makes no mention for nor against God, BECAUSE God is not relevant to the subject - as in geometry, cooking, sewing, carpentry and other subjects.

Two World Floods

This is probably related to the theory that "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and void" are two successive events - i.e. God created them, abd then subsequently the Earth was destroyed, and the rest of Genesis is the account of the second creation. I don't remember who came up with this idea.

Explain Matthew 24:37

Elena_9555:

Success often leads to pride, and pride often leads to a sense of elitism and a contempt for others. This is common among celebrities and successful people in all walks of life, and (sadly) it's all too common in mega-minsters and televangelists as well.

Explain Matthew 24:37

Jed:

The remark was made on Sept. 12 2004. Google: swaggart kill. There are video clips of the incident in question on the top few sites listed.

If someone threatened to harm Swaggart, he should even forgive and love such a person. That is the Christian response. Not "kill him", even in jest.

Luke:

The very fact that people are fallible is a good reason why we should not rely on them as authorities without corroboration.

Haz27:

You wrote: We all know those bakers in USA who suffered for not baking wedding cake.

It's curious many Christians tilt at windmills Jesus never mentioned (e.g. the above baker), but would he refuse to bake a cake for a divorced person (something Jesus DID mention), or an atheist, or a Hindu? I think that's unlikely.

Then why do you always support the Left who are at the forefront pushing for abortion/murder of babies for any reason?

Many left vs. right agendas today resemble Jesus vs. Pharisees 2000 years ago - but you'll point out that many are different too. Mussolini made the trains run on time - does that make anyone who likes punctuality a fascist? Please use proper logical inferences.

Explain Matthew 24:37

Jed:

You said: I once heard my mother say "I'm so mad I could kill her!" But I don't think she actually wanted to kill anyone. I also heard her once say "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!" But, again, I don't think she actually could have eaten a horse.

What a mother says in a heated moment is one thing. What a preacher preaches from a pulpit in a prepared sermon is entirely different. We hold our leaders to higher standards. We will also be held accountable for every idle word. The entire audience applauded the "killing" comment. I guess NONE of them ever read the "love your enemies" part, or if they did, they must have preferred words of televangelists above those of Jesus.

Against Capital Punishment

Jed:

God is "pro-choice" with regards to sin. He could make sin physically impossible, but he lets us CHOOSE (and bear the consequences). He could have stopped Adam from eating the fruit (and dooming billions to die later) but he didn't.

The fact that you minimalize the act of abortion to the extent that you view it as the moral equivalent to smoking, instead of murder or rape, is proof that you ARE pro-abortion.

I didn't say I support the right to choose - I was referring to anti-abortion pro-choice people. It is possible to disagree with X, while at the same time supporting someone else's right to choose X - regardless of what X is. Please learn how to make proper logical inferences.

Haz27:

You said: Leon, I guess we could likewise call you and your 2 mates (NurseRob, StrongAxe) the 3 Stooges then :)

Admittedly your the only one of the 3 who eventually conceded and condemned abortion/murder.

I'm flattered that you consider me to be equivalent to successful professional comedians. Thank you.

But also, so what? I have never said abortion or murder are OK. The fact that I hadn't explicitly condemned them here yet is irrelevant, since they aren't the topic of this blog, and 125 words go quickly, and I'm not online daily. I don't assume that you approve of everything you don't explicitly condemn.

Against Capital Punishment

Jed:

You said: And you choose to support legalized abortion, thus becoming guilty of murder.

This is making two logical non-sequiturs.

First, supporting someone's right to choose something is not the same as supporting that thing yourself. (For eample, I loathe tobacco, but agree that it should not be a crime to possess it).

Second, believing something should be legal does not make you guilty of it. (For example, the fact that I believe alcohol is sometimes reasonable (as do Timothy and Ecclesiastes) doesn't make me a drunk.)

Explain Matthew 24:37

Candice:

You said: I'll use my commentary bible to give the answer.. Jimmy Swaggert says this about that verse in the comentary:

Jimmy Swaggart accused others of adultery - while also falling victim to the same temptation himself. He also once said in a sermon, "If one of them looks at me that way I'll kill him and tell God he's dead." - hardly a Christian attitude, as we're supposed to forgive our enemies. Who is SO bad that Jesus wants us to kill them instead? Nobody I know of. As such, I would feel dubious about relying on Swaggart as a scriptural authority.

Elder:

You said: The Bible says if a man doesn't work he shall not eat

Not quite: 2 Thessalonians 3:10: "...if any would not work, neither should he eat."

This is not about not working. It is about not being WILLING to work. There is a fine, but significant difference between these two, and not understanding it is a key confusion in the whole welfare debate.

Tossing lazy bums onto the street because they're too lazy to lift a finger is Pauline Christian doctrine. Tossing Grandma out the street because she can no longer lift a broom is how Nazis dealt with "useless eaters".

Jed:

The Bible frequently praises liberalism. Look it up.

Against Capital Punishment

jerry6593:

Why don't you turn your own question around: Why do so many Christians say they are pro-life, yet support capital punishment and gun rights and oppose social welfare programs? It's as if their concern for precious life ends the moment the child is born - after that, his life is his own responsibility, and of no further concern of theirs.

What about the hypocrisy of conservatives who scream over the death of babies, yet cheer the death of sinners (like them, as per John, all Christians are sinners, and those who say they're not deceive themselves)?

War Against Christians Begun

shira4368:

You said: Muslims come to our country and want to change our beliefs.

300 years ago, European Christians came to this very same land, and wanted to change the beliefs of the people who already lived here. Please explain how one is different from the other. "Legitimate evangelism" and "religious persecution" can be exactly the same thing, viewed from opposite directions.

War Against Christians Begun

steveng:

You said: A developing war is now brewing between denominational christians and true christians (Satan surely knows the difference). Your thoughts?

There has always been a war between true Christians and false ones. But there are both wheat (true Christians) and tares (false Christians) within denominations and outside them. If it were merely a matter of "inside=false", they would be easy to tell apart - and Jesus himself said that they would not be easy to separate in this life, only at the final judgment.
