Death Penalty For Criminals

You said: However it isn't a good practice to release known criminals back on the streets to commit crimes again.

It is more a matter of releasing suspects who have not been convicted of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt. Also, crimes have specific sentences, so once the sentence is fulfilled, the guilty party MUST be released. Whether he re-offends again is entirely up to him.

I'm not well right now, thank you for asking. God Bless

I'm so sorry to hear that. I am currently in the hospital myself.

Samuelbb7:

You said: So you judge that those who did take a buggy are breaking a day according to your understanding that you feel is not necssary.

I don't judge you. I encourage you to judge yourself according to the standards you have accepted upon yourselves.

So you take a lesson from the opponets of Jesus and accuse us of breaking Sabbath.

No. I just point out that if one REALLY wants to observe the Sabbath scrupulously, according to how it was observed in the Old Testament, one must be prepared to make certain sacrifices - for which evidence is conspicuously absent. (E.g. SDA say one must worship on the sabbath, but I don't hear them screaming about not cooking on the Sabbath, etc.)

You wrote: Perhaps that is whats wrong with America with so many crimes, punishment doesn't fit the crimes, and some are released who shouldn't be.

The theory is that it is better for a hundred guilty men to go free than for one innocent man to be unjustly punished. We keep hearing about many cases where somebody has rotted in prison for 20 years for a crime he didn't commit - then is freed when conflicting DNA evidence is produced (which was not available when that person was first imprisoned.

God Bless PS I hope you are doing well. Darlene 1

Thank you!

You wrote: If God really considers the unborn to be people, then I would say it is an act of terrorism to attack an kill and unborn person.

There has been too much confusion between murder and terrorism lately.

The purpose of terrorism is to fill people's hearts with fear for their own safety. As much as one may hate abortion, it does not do this.

The mother of the Tsarnaev brothers accused the U.S. of being terrorists, which is absurd. Her sons blew up a marathon - an act of terrorism. The government put one of them on trial. This is justice, not terrorism. Terrorism would have been rounding up some "usual suspects" and shooting them all - something not done here, but commonly done by ISIS.

Samuelbb7:

You said internal combustion engines. I never go out and gather wood to make a fire any day.

One may not light ANY kind of fires on the Sabbath - no fires for lighting, no cooking fires. This also includes fires caused by internal combustion engines. And it's regardless of whether cart-pullers were draft animals or not, as it was not permitted to work ANY animal. Even flipping a light switch on or off creates a spark - which is fire.

So, how do must Adventists get to church on Saturday now?

Jesus us to love God and to love our neighbors. These two commandments cover 9 of the 10 commandments, and Jesus must have known this. Was Jesus giving false or misleading information?

Leon:

This has to do with facebook, in that comments made by political wingnuts (both right- and left- leaning) say things that so vilate common sense wisdom, that people beed to hear about it. Thus, some people will post such comments on Facebook, for better or worse - to foster honesty if they are true, and vitriolic hatred if they are not.

Also, in my previous message (which apparently never got approved) was that the quotation I paraphrased did not actually happen (so I didn't due my "two witness" due diligence). Joni Ernst has said many off-the-wall things, but didn't actually stoop to the one I had posted, so for this I am sorry.

You said In the USA most murderers are put to death. Murder once and it becomes easier the next time.

Actually, in only 32 states is the death penalty statute on the books, while in 18 it has been repealed. In fact, look at California - a death penalty state - that still has Charles Manson behind bars for decades.

You said: If the U.S. stayed out of things of other countries, God is in control. He would manage what would happen, and He would have Christians make good use of any situation.

Just like God "managed what would happen" during World War II - with Hitler coming to power (by divine approval no doubt - if you believe in the Divine Right of Kings), and the conquering almost all of Europe. America stayed out of that war, and just see where it led. It only got involved when its feathers got ruffled at Pearl Harbor. Then, all the gloves came off.

Samuelbb7:

You asked Why was he teaching how to keep the Sabbath properly?

Because the old covenant was still in effect, and Jesus would have been a sinner to contradict it.

One thing that was NEVER permitted was travel on the Sabbath. So it was a sin to ride animal-driven conveyance to worship, and you can forget using anything that generates fire (most cars) or even electrical sparks (like Teslas). Bicycles are iffy, because one could argue about whether riding a bike would be considered "work".

A lot of people on facebook are nice. Some are not. Some are nice, but post things that not-so-nice people have said. On exmple, if you google: iowa ernst unprofitable poor,
you get a screed newly-elected Iowa Senator Joni said.

here is a paraphrase:
We should try to get poor people off Obamacare before they start to like it. Many think Jesus loved the poor, but they cherry-pick the Bible. He said the unprofitable servant should be thrown into hell. Is stealing health care from those who can afford it, worth being thrown into hell?

Yes. This ELECTED POLITICIAN wants to do poor people a MERCY by cutting off their health care options - just so they won't need to go to hell!

Samuelbb7:

You said: A prophecy can be conditional. If this, then that will happen.

Yes, but when it IS conditional, it SAYS it is conditional.

Why do you attack this way when all you should have to say is she did not teach what the Bible says. ... You cannot answer those and do not know much about Sister White. I do.

When have I said anything against Ms. White? Not here. You must be confusing me with Cluny.

Mark_Eaton, Rita_H:

If people are pre-disposed to adultery, and willing to commit it despite their own personal beliefs to the contrary, they will do so, whether they use Facebook or any other venue.

If people are willing to make the necessary sacrifices to remain faithful to their spouses, they will do so whether they are on Facebook or not.

This isn't a matter of Facebook, or any other venue. It is a matter of the strength of one's marriage, and the strength of one's commitments to one's vows, and to the integrity of one's beliefs.

Warwick:

You posted your question on several blogs. I answered in another one. Excuse me for not repeating myself in all of them. Why are you SO OBSESSED with this issue? It's almost as if you think that one's salvation rests on believing the way you do.

I answer as a mathematician, basing my answer on information available, and not making assumptions or taking things for granted that aren't there. You obviously have a more flexible standard of truth.

Samuelbb7:

You wrote: The people who mention that prophecy leave out the part about if we get the Gospel spread to the entire world this could happen.

Even if the entire world was converted and the prophecy was fulfilled TOMORROW, this would still mean that some people would need to be 150 years old, which has not happened since the time of Noah.

Many groups blame their own failures on the fact that there are other people in the world who believe differently. 50 years ago, communists blamed the abject failures of communism on the west. Today, some muslims blame muslim radicalization on the west. Nobody takes responsibility for his own failed system.

Wrong Way On Moonh

micha9344:

You asked: Why would people celebrate it eight days later?

Because the Passover has always been an 8-day-long feast. Also in everywhere except Israel, all feasts are celebrated twice, once on the correct day, and once on the next day. This is done because of time zone differences (since the new moon could fall between two days), and the length of time it used to take to get the message out of Jerusalem that "the new moon starts NOW" and pass it along to other places. This means that the Passover would last for 9 days, i.e. the official starting date, up to 8 days later.

Apostles Creed Fundamental

Trav:

You said: Respectfully StrongAxe, Universal doctrines have over 30,000 different opposed denominations. Clearly it's fragmented in doctrines.

So what? The creed says "holy catholic and apostolic church", not "holy Catholic and apostolic church". The fact that many Christians seem to be more comfortable in splinter groups does not alter the fact that Christians are all part of one universal Body of Christ which Jesus himself taught, and which the creeds themselves affirm. If this does not reflect reality, it is the Church's fault, not the creeds'.

Mark_Eaton:

You said: I guess you and Leon got it all figured out.

Except we cannot figure out why the divorce rate in the church is as high as outside the church.

This is because many people (in the church or not) don't REALLY understand and agree to the commitment that they are making. If two people get married, truly "for better or worse", and REALLY mean it, they can weather almost anything. Sadly, in modern society's "instant gratification" paradigm, waiting for things to work out is often not seen as a viable option. But this does not mean we should demean those who CAN make things work out. If 50% of marriages end in divorce, it means there are another 50% that don't.

Samuelbb7:

You said: But I cannot believe that GOD spoke through an agent of Satan.

That is not the only case. Balaam was a corrupt false who accepted money for prophecying, but God had other plans and forced him to bless Israel, against the instructions he was given by his client.

Apostles Creed Fundamental

Trav:

You said: Specific hand of men: GOD, prophet or Christ never uses or implies the word "catholic" or its "universal" meaning.

The Bible speaks of the Body of Christ. There is only one. As such, it is universal, and not fragmented.

You wouldn't want a publican or re-publican sitting next to you...heaven forbid.

If Jesus hung out with publicans during his life, why should we object to doing so in the afterlife? Is there anything Jesus can't or won't forgive?
