Do Ghosts Exist

Bill: "What ones call a ghost can be an evil spirit pretending to be a dead human."

Amen! Exactly! And if dead humans are NOT alive as spooks, then there is no such thing as ghosts in the classical sense.

Pay attention Axster, this is why Satan's deception in Eden is relevant here. Dead people remain dead until the resurrection at Jesus' second coming. Thus, they can't be ghosts. Are you still going with Satan's lie in this as you did with Evolution?

Bound By Ten Commandments

barb: You bring up a good point about the 10C being the subject of the Covenant. (After all, the stone tablets were kept in the Ark of the _____.) I find it richly humorous that many lawless ones here claim that the 10C were only for the Jews under the Old Covenant, and they are under the New C as Christians, when the New C was the same Law written on the heart, and was given to (guess who) - THE JEWS.

cluny: "You didn't answer MY question."

Maybe because it wasn't on the blog topic. BTW, I looked up your Orthodox Church's standing on the 10C. They are in favor of it. (With the exception that they prefer the Catholic Sabbath (Sunday) rather than the Biblical one.) Why aren't you?

Bound By Ten Commandments

Isa 30:9 ... this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will NOT HEAR THE LAW of the LORD:

I notice that not a single response addresses the blog question, but rather most continue to espouse the same lawless drivel. What are you afraid of?

Bound By Ten Commandments

Mark E: "First, your grammar is incorrect. Your question should say "bound TO the Ten Commandments" because that is the way we were in sin, bound to the Law."

NO sir, your English is incorrect as well as your theology. The 10C Law defines sin (1 John 3:4). Jesus came to save us from our SINS. He did NOT come to save us from obedience to the 10C Law. He saved us from the penalty for our sins - death (Rom 6:23).

These are the FACTS that you Antinomians don't want to face. You continue to waste blog space on your twisted interpretations of a few of Paul's scriptures, while ignoring the blog question. If it is too hard for you, just tell me what denomination you are and I will do the rest.

The Power Of The Law

David: "there is No way, you could have received this knowledge from one of the many man made doctrines"

You're right. I got it from the Bible. The Antinomians are politically correct snowflakes, in that they want a trophy for winning the race without ever leaving the starting line.

"Jesus did not take away the Law, he changed it (Hebrews 7:14)."

I disagree. Heb 7:14 doesn't mention the Law - only the nature of the priesthood (Levitical vs. Melchisedec).

Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Bound By Ten Commandments

Cluny: Every time you cry about it like a little girl. Why is that? Because you have no answers? Every time you and the other antinomianists waste 75 blogs without ever addressing the blog question. You consistently demean the Ten Commandments in spite of the fact that your Orthodox denomination (according to your official website) upholds them. I want to know why, without all the meaningless diversions you normally serve up.

Do Ghosts Exist

ax: "there must have already been a cultural belief that such things exist"

Yes indeed. They had paganism and spiritualistic influences around even in Christ's day. Satan has been at work spreading his lies since the garden of Eden. Remember, God said:

Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

But Satan replied:

Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

So who ya gonna believe Axey, God or Satan?

The Power Of The Law

David: I think you are on the right track. Salvation is not completed at the initial acceptance of Jesus. It is just beginning with this Justification - the blotting out of past sins. We must then walk with Jesus the rest of our lives in Sanctification - being made holy. We must fight the good fight of faith and wrestle against temptation to sin, so that by God's power (Grace) we may become overcomers.

Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Do Ghosts Exist

NO! There is no such thing as ghosts (That is, spooks of the Halloween variety). The root word for both spirit and ghost in Hebrew (OT) and Greek (NT) is BREATH. We are "inspired" (breathed into) by God, and we "expire" (breathe out) when we die.

Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing ...

The Power Of The Law

David: Peter spoke of these lawless interpreters of Paul's writers. He said:

2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Paul also wrote:

Rom 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

Either Paul is self-conflicted or these Antinonianists are. I think that Paul is OK, but the pseudoscholars here on CN need educating.

Look to Jesus for your answers. Did He keep the Law? Yes!

Ten Commandments Historical

john & riolin: What denominations are you that teach disobedience to the Law?

Jesus says:

Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

If there were no Law, then there would be no sin (1John 3:4). If there is no sin, then there is no need for a Savoir. Maybe you don't need Jesus, but I do.

Ten Commandments Historical

David: "I guess the Law is for everyone else, but not for them."

Your logic is hard to argue against. Some claim that all they need do is "love" their neighbors, and that nullifies the Ten Commandments. But some murderers claim to "love" their victims, and many adulterers do as well.

Nicole: "because they want to excuse their sins"

You are so RIGHT ON!

riolin: The Investigative Judgement is a BIBLICAL doctrine (Dan 7:9,10, Jas 2:12), and there's nothing "egregious" about the Bible.

How Did Life Begin

About Carbon 14:

C14 is indeed GREAT evidence - but not for evolution. Classical C14 measurement is indeed highly innacurate, with a broad statistical peak and tends to greater innacuracy with sample age. That is because it uses a simple geiger count method for determining the proportion of C14. Accelerator Mass Spectrometer measurements of C14 in fossils, on the other hand, is highly accurate, and gives a narrow statistical peak of ALL fossil ages at about 4,500 years BP - exactly in accordance with the biblical flood of Noah!

ax: You were describing President Bill Clinton, right?

How Did Life Begin

ax: "What I have constantly stated on these blogs, with regards to the times in Genesis, is that "I don't know"."

I believe you. There is a name for you - AGNOSTIC!

Why should we Christians listen to an admitted agnostic?

How Did Life Begin

ax: "Which words, EXACTLY, did God say? "

This is getting ridiculous!

Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and ALL that in them is

What part of ALL don't you understand?

"There is ample evidence in our genes, in the rocks, and in the sky that show things have been around for much longer than 6021 years."

Not True! There is ample evidence to the contrary. The rocks (e.g.) do not show long age deposition, but fiat creation in Polonium halos in granite, rapid flood burial of fossils, 4,500 year BP age of ALL fossils, etc.

How Did Life Begin

ax: "Ex 20:11 or PS 33:6,9 say God created (which I don't dispute). Neither mentions HOW."

None are so blind as those who will not see. In these two texts, anyone with normal reading and reasoning abilities can readily see two things:

1) How God did it was "by the WORD of His mouth".

2) How long it took was SIX DAYS.

These two facts directly refute your speculation that "God did it by creating Evolution" and "It took millennia to accomplish". Either God (and scientific evidence) is lying or you are. I'll go with God.

Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God ...

Ten Commandments Historical

riolin: "In the Sabbath keepers belief, one must keep the law - exp. the 10 commandments to be saved."

NOT SO! I am a Sabbath keeper and I don't believe that obedience to the Law earns salvation. It is only by God's grace and Christ's infinite sacrifice for me that I have a chance to be saved. Because of Christ's love for me, I love Him enough to honor Him by obedience to His Ten Commandment Law. How does disobedience to His Law honor Him? He said:

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

1Jn 2:3,4 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

How Did Life Begin

ax: "Why do you INSIST that you KNOW how he [sic] DID it?"

You are either incapable of reading or incapable of retaining. Here is how I KNOW how He did it. He wrote with His own finger in stone:

Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

He inspired David to write:

Psa 33:6,9 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. ... For he spake, and it was done, he commanded, and it stood fast.

God Himself declares that HIS Creation was a fiat event - not a multi-billion year accident.

Ten Commandments Historical

barb: Well said! How sad that many Christians think that Jesus came to save them from HIS Law rather than from their SINS (the transgression of His Law). If only these Christians would check the history of their respective denominations, they would find that their forebears did indeed promote the keeping of the Ten Commandments.

As for the deceptive deflection of the topic to legalism, some education is apparently needed. The Pharisees were not legalistic for keeping GOD'S Commandments, but rather for their insistence on keeping MAN'S commandments. This defiance of God's Law while substituting man-made variants such as "grace destroys Law" or "love is all you need" is indeed legalism.

Ten Commandments Historical

No one has yet addressed the core blog questions of the fundamental shift in denominational doctrine from adherence to the Ten Commandments to Antinomianism - the belief that Christians are exempt from the Law.

How about YOUR denomination, is it traditional or Antinomian?
