How Does God Select
God's criteria is His Word. He gave it to Moses, He gave it to His prophets and He gave it to His Son.

Jesus taught it and most of us sang it as children so there can be no your house on the Lord, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Rock and if you believe Him then His words/testimony are your foundation and all other ground is sinking sand.

How Does God Select
David, if grace is unmerited then the man at the marriage feast without a robe of righteousness would not have been kicked out into outer darkness. Grace and faith would have covered him. His invitation was a counterfeit. He did not enter in through the Door but climbed up another way.

Those who entered in through the Door received the true invitation from the King, knew what to wear and came clothed in their robes of righteousness.

In other words the righteous followed the instructions on the wedding invitation from the King and the man who expected to pick up his robe when he got there got his information elsewhere.

Saved By Following Bible
Kathr, thanks for pointing out the vast differences between the teachings of Jesus and Paul.

Did you notice that Matt 1:21 reads "for He shall save His people from their sins" and not in their sins? What about John 8:15 "And the servant abides not in the house forever"? God's house is His Kingdom and there will be no sin there. Rev. 21:27, Rev 22:15.

You quote 1st John 2:2 but you need to read on through verses 2-29 to hear the real message. "And hereby we do know that we know Him if we keep His commandments. He that says, I know him and keeps not His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him."

Saved By Following Bible
Jesus never called His words, my gospel or the gospel of Christ. He called His message "the gospel of the kingdom" and He preached it throughout all the cities, villages and in the synagogues. Matt 9:35, Matt 4:23, Matt 24:14. "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in ALL the world as a witness unto ALL nations, and then the end shall come."

The gospel of the kingdom will be a witness to all nations so we better know what it is and start preaching the truth to the world before it's too late. John 18:37.

How Is God Love
God destroyed the earth with a flood because the whole earth was polluted with sin. The people of Noah's time had filled their cup of iniquity to the brim and they had gone beyond the limit of forgiveness. Gen 15:16, Matt 5:29-30. Same with Sodom and Gomorrah.

The torment of hell is not eternal. The lake of fire will burn until it is nothing but ashes under the feet of the Saints. The second death is eternal and the people who are burnt up will be as if they never were.

Who Is The Serpent
God is the Father (seed) of those born of the Holy Spirit and the children of the serpent seed are those born of the evil spirit, Satan.

"Ye are of your father, the devil and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own for he is a liar and the father of it." John 8,44.

"The field is the world, the good seed are the children of the kingdom but the tares are the children of the wicked one." Matt 13:38.

Important To Me
Richard, yes, Jesus was given all power in Heaven and earth but as He has stated, His Kingdom is not of this world. He is the King of the Kingdom of Heaven, therefore those on earth who will enter into His Kingdom will be in the world but not a part of it. John 17:14-26, John 3:18-21. Someday soon God will empower His Heavenly kingdom on earth to defeat the kingdom of the world ruled by Satan. Dan 2:44, Dan 7:27, Rev 11:14-19.

Yes, the prince of this world has been judged and stands condemned but as we can see by looking around us, he has not yet been destroyed, although he knows he has only a short time left. Rev 12:7-17, John 16:11.

Important To Me
Mike, Pilot had the Truth standing right there in front of him but didn't recognize Him. He heard what he wanted to hear "my kingdom is not of this world" and so Pilot knew Jesus was no threat to him because Pilot's kingdom was of this world.

Jesus also said "he who is of the truth hears my voice", if Pilot was interested in the truth he would have paid attention instead of asking what is truth after he had just been told.

There is only one truth but there are all kinds of lies to confuse and deceive us, therefore we must have a standard for truth. My standard for truth is the Law and the Prophets and the Testimony of Jesus.

Important To Me
Mike, yes. Life had gotten easier for the Israelites but when Moses went up the mountain and didn't come back down after many days they thought he was dead. They did not trust God. They had just witnessed one of the greatest miracles of all time, the parting of the waters and had just walked through the sea on dry land.

The people had also seen God defeat the gods of the Egyptians and the miracle of Passover but when they thought that they had been abandoned in the middle of nowhere they reverted to the gods of Egypt. Sadly, the people of today are the same. Without blessings, signs and wonders they loose their trust in God and believe lies rather than seek truth.

Important To Me
I haven't read that book but I'm more concerned that God might be disappointed in me.

Satan is the ruler of this world. John 14:30-31. God is the King of the Kingdom of the Heavens which is not of this world. John 18:33-37. If you want to connect with God you have do it spiritually. It is important to know the God you are worshipping otherwise you might be worshipping what you do not know. John 4:21-26.

Consider the Israelites who saw all kinds of miracles from God yet the first thing they did when the going got tough was to make themselves a golden calf. Miracles, answered prayers, manna from Heaven, nothing was good enough for them.

Important To Me
Mike, I never said that all my prayers are answered. I have faced many a crisis and never seen a miracle but have always received peace, calmness and strength to lead me through, whether it be the loss of a loved one or a mess of my own making.

God told Moses why he couldn't enter the promised land in Numbers 20:12. Moses did not believe God and disobeyed a direct command from Him. We know that Moses repented because we see him with Jesus and Elias at Jesus' transfiguration. Jesus said this about chastisement "As many as I love I rebuke and chasten, be zealous therefore and repent." Rev 3:19.

I won't get into Paul here because he is a whole different story and it would take me beyond the word limit.

Important To Me
Mike, the problem here is in the teaching we get from the pulpit that says Jesus has done it all for us and we need do nothing. "If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you." John 15:1-27. Most folks miss or ignore that little word "if".

"And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him Because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight." 1st John 3:1-24.

Important To Me
Maybe something is important to God that is not important to you. Do you know what is important to God? He spoke His expectations through the Law and the Prophets and the testimony of His Son.

When Jesus said "ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened onto you" He was talking about spiritual things. Jesus promised His disciples that they would be clothed and fed but also warned that they would be persecuted and hated in the kingdom of the world where Satan reigns. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" things like wisdom, integrity and truth. Matt 7:7-27, Matt 6:20-34.

Who Wrote The New Testament
Jesus did not write anything in the New Testament. He chose 12 eyewitness disciples and taught them everything they needed to know. We have the writings of two of those eyewitnesses through whom God has preserved His Son's testimony to this very day.

This is what Jesus told His disciples "But the Comforter who is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you". John 14:26. And He also prayed to His Father "Neither pray I for these alone but for those also who shall believe on me through their word." John 17:20.

The Sons Of God
Jesus was given power in Matt 28 "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth". Why? Because He came to earth to show us by His own example how to keep His Father's commandments and how to become righteous by learning and abiding in the testimony/words God gave Him to bring to us. He died so that we who believe His words can enter into His Kingdom. John 18:37.

Read on "which were born, not of blood, not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man but of God." John 1:13. John is talking about a spiritual birth. The birth of the Holy Spirit. John 3:5.

Kathr, Jesus said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

What I was trying to say and probably did not say clearly is that the Holy Spirit does not abide with a person who is not willing to accept the truth revealed to them. Should a person want to remain in the darkness it is their right and choice to do so but the Spirit of Truth will not remain in them. "For whosoever has to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has." Matt 13:10-17.

Kathr, the woman caught in adultery and her accusers were both transgressors of the law as Jesus pointed out. Is it lawful for a sinner to stone a sinner? Jesus told the woman to "go and sin no more" and if she disobeyed His command then she will lose out on eternal life in the end. Where is her partner in crime? Doesn't the law say they should both be put to death?

Jesus gave His disciples the Holy Spirit after His resurrection. John 20:19-23. The Holy Spirit is our guide and teacher. He takes the spiritual truth of Jesus' words/testimony and reveals it to all who will hear. John 18:37, 16:13-16. The Holy Spirit does not live where sin exists.

Have A Salvation Party
Kathr, all I have to do is read the law and the prophets in the old testament and the words of Jesus in the new testament to see that they are in complete harmony. No dispensation there. Isaiah 8:20.

The only change to the covenant is the place in which it is written. Once written in stone, it is now written in the hearts and minds of all who agree to keep it. Jer 31:33.

If all you preach is the death and resurrection of Jesus then you render His testimony obsolete. John 6:63, John 12:42-50, John 14:23-31.

Samuel, context and studying all verses on a topic is very important. You might see something you have not yet seen if you read what Jesus said to His disciples in Matt 28:18-20, John 14:26 and John 15:26-27.

Also read John 20:19-23 and 1st John 2:20-29. I pray that you will see that these verses apply to the same topic that is being discussed.
