How Does God Select

Many are called - Many, meaning most, receive the effectual call of God, meaning they are born again.

Few are chosen - Few of God's elect are chosen to understand the truths of the gospel.

Matthew 22
There were many guest who came to the wedding. Only one was cast out of the wedding ceremony for not having on a wedding garment.

How Does God Select

Hi David, unmerited favor means we didn't do anything to receive the grace of God. That's really what grace is all about. I didn't deserve it yet God granted it.

I didn't deserve salvation yet God sent his Son to die for me on the cross.

Christ didn't deserve to die for my sins yet he did.

2Cor 5:21 Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

That's grace!!!

How Does God Select

Concerning how God chooses:

Romans 9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,) (KJV)

God does his will. He doesn't think like we do. He is not a flawed man. He is a perfect God and he doesn't have to answer to us.

Spirit Goes To Heaven

Kathr, I believe you gave a good answer concerning Psalms 115:17.

It is my opinion that the author is speaking of physical death. When we are dead we do not praise God any longer here on earth. We praise him in his presence.
2Cor 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (KJV)

Building Of The Ark

God had Noah to build the ark so that we could see by evidence the faith of Noah. Noah was walking by faith and not sight. His obedience to God was rewarded in his timely salvation. Building the ark did not save him eternally but it did save him from being destroyed along with the wicked.

Spirit Goes To Heaven

Jerry,

Every time the scriptures speak of the world do they always mean the same world?

Every time the scriptures speak of salvation do they always mean eternal salvation?

The answer to both of these is "No".

When the scriptures speak of the death of the soul they are referring to the death of the body.

Concerning soul sleeping:
In Luke 9:31 Christ spoke with Moses and Elijah. They were very much alive and awake.

Spirit Goes To Heaven

There is not one single verse of scripture that states that the soul sleeps.

There are multiple scriptures that speak of the soul departing.

Some will point to verses stating that the soul dies. If we look at the meaning of these verses they are pointing to a physical death of the body.

Last of all, at the time of death. God's people are separated from their body and their soul and spirit go to be with God the Father and their people.

Gen 25:8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

His soul left the body to go be with God resulting in death and his spirit and soul were gathered to his people meaning his family in heaven.

Spirit Goes To Heaven

Hi Jerry, if I understand correctly, you believe that when we die the soul sleeps in the grave with the body waiting to be awakened by the Lord. (Please correct me if I am wrong.)

My belief is that when we die our soul goes to be with God.

The Apostle Paul wrote:
2Cor 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (KJV)
Paul speaking of death and that we are separated from the body and present with God.

Eccl 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? (KJV)

Last of all, Rev 6:9 describes saints who are very much awake after death.

Spirit Goes To Heaven

Therese, in the book of Job it also says:

Job 34:14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath,

Job 34:15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust. (KJV)

Sounds to me like when God call a man's spirit to heaven and takes away his breath the man dies.

Let's read the bible in whole and not pick and choose verses which seem to prove erroneous beliefs.

Favorite Translation Of Bible

Jerry, may I just say Amen! 95% of the manuscripts agree with with Textus Receptus. If we look at the source of the other 5% it is no wonder why certain verses are omitted.

How Is God Love

God loves his people so much that he sent his only begotten Son to suffer and die in their place. God so loves his people so much that he made a way for sinners to be with him eternally. God so loves his people that one day he's coming back to earth to reunite them body, soul, and spirit.

He is a God of love. A god of hate would never have sacrificed so much to save sinful man.

By the way, it wasn't God that brought sin into the world.

Ro 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (KJV)

Who Taught Jesus The Bible

Some verses to consider:
Christ at 13 years of age:
Luke 2:47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

John 7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. (KJV)
John 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? (KJV)
John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. (KJV)

Who taught Christ? Answer: God.

It wasn't Christ's mother. Christ was her teacher.

Hope For Salvation

Nicole,

1. Yes, Jesus is everyone's Master but this is beside the point. Keep scripture in context. He is speaking to the Jews.

2.No, I do not claim to "have accepted Jesus". He is my Savior but it is he that hath made me accepted in the beloved family of God. Eph: 1:6.

3. Matt 25:31-46 has nothing to do with Luke 12:49. Matt 25: 31-46 Christ is dealing with eternal salvation. He is describing the difference between sheep and goats (elect children of God chosen before the foundation of the world and the non-elect.) All are sinners, but Christ's redeemed and washed his children's sins away.

Nicole, I have tried to help my neighbor in need but often fail, but God's grace never fails!

Hope For Salvation

The verse cited: Luke 12:48 is a timely verse. This is not an eternal salvation verse. Please note:
Luke 12:49 I am come to send fire on the earth, and what will I, if it be already kindled? (KJV)

Please note Christ stated "on the earth". He is speaking to the Jews who knew the Masters will but did not do it.

If we know Christ's will and keep his commandments we are blessed while here on this earth.

If we know his will and disobey or are slack then we don't receive the blessing and may receive chastisement from the Master.

Jesus Or Paul Teachings

Jerry, may I just say that if Paul's teachings contradict Christ's teachings then there is a error in interpretation.

I believe that the author of all scripture is the Holy Ghost.

2Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (KJV)

2Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

If the scriptures are not the inspired word of God why bother reading, studying, or believing???

Who Is A Saint

Nicole Lacy:
Php 1:1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: (KJV)
1Cor 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. (KJV)
1Cor 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: (KJV)

When the Apostle Paul is addressing the churches he is addressing the saints of God that make up the church. I'm sorry if that doesn't agree with your understanding.

Who Is A Saint

Joseph, good answer!

The term "saint" is found many times in God's holy word. The word comes from the Latin word "sanctus" meaning a person sanctified, holy, or a godly person.

To be sanctified is to be set aside for holy use. All God's children are sanctified. All God's elect were sanctified in Christ Jesus before the foundation of the world, chosen in him. Eph 1:4.

Is Bible Preaching To Persuade

Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. (KJV)

Salvation Only Through Church

Salvation does not flow through the church. God's children are saved outside the church and then take up their cross and follow Christ in baptism. Take for example the eunuch in Acts chapter 8. God had already touched his heart. He already possessed eternal life. When Philip came to him he was reading in Isaiah. Without God's acting first a man would have no desire to follow God.

1Cor 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (KJV)

We are also told that without faith it is impossible to please God so in order for one to do anything pleasing unto God they must first posses faith that comes from God.

Is Saving Faith A Work

Nicole L, it sounds like you just said Christ needs your help to save you. Did I read that correctly?

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (KJV)
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV)

Paul says it's not of works and that we have no grounds for boasting.
