Listening To God Important

I think we should be listening 100% of our waking moments. Also I do not think listening is mutually exclusive with the other activities you mention. Many times halfway through a prayer the Lord puts new things into my heart and I incorporate it into the ongoing prayer. It's just like a regular conversation.

Israeli Peace Plan

God has not called Christians to judge the world, only each other. (1 Cor 5:12-13). Jesus said: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (Jn 14:27)

Widower Dating Advice Needed

I think the challenges are obvious. But the more important question to ask is if this is God's Will for the both of you. Only God can answer you.

Church Of Drunks and Drug Users

From the way you phrase your question, I'm guessing you want us to say that something is wrong. From the info given, I honestly have no idea what are the bad things you are hinting at. I would say: look at the 100 people and see if there were real changes in their lives after accepting Christ.

I Am From A Poor Family

Francis, I have not been through what you are experiencing now. Sorry for your troubles. Are you looking for a job now? Perhaps you could try getting a job and take night classes to complete your college degree. Another suggestion is to discuss with your college counsellor to work out some kind of bursary or even a part-time job at the school e.g. at library or food-service. Let us know a couple of short-term goals you are aiming for so that we can pray for you specifically. Don't lose heart.

No Instruments In My Church

He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. (Rom 14:6)
Same goes for existence of musical instruments, dancing etc. or lack thereof.

Is Islam Peaceful Or Demonic

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

Islam is not a religion of peace not because it advocates war. In the OT Israelites made war with their enemies with God's blessings. War versus peace is not the point at all. Rather Islam is not a religion of peace because it does not know the peace that Christ brings. So even a religion founded on pacifism would not be peaceful.

How Do You Memorize Scriptures

AlwaysOn: Don't you think that memorizing scripture helps us when ministering to others, though?

I know this was directed to Phil so pardon me for jumping in with my thoughts. I think it is most helpful in situations where time is limited and/or smoothness of delivery is important. From my own experience cold call evangelism is one example. For most other situations e.g. group Bible study I find that there is enough time to refer to prepared notes and turn to the appropriate passage as needed.

AG And Catholic Date

About the Eucharist, and according to Catholics, what is the functional purpose of the "wine" and the "bread" being the actual "blood" and "body" of Jesus. Put another way, what would happen differently (be it physically or spiritually) if the wine and bread were just that? Not rhetorical questions -- I really want to understand the difference.

Catholic And Christian Differences

Gal. 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Surely we can *all* agree on this.

Education And Salvation

The Apostle Paul was highly educated as well, but said (Phil. 3:8)

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ

But education or none, every life experience is used by God for His Glory. So don't stereotype the highly-educated and belittle their faith-worthiness, because it insults God's special providence for each person.

Young Girl Being Made Fun Of

Eloy: "My family, I apologize for this classmates rude words and behavior in this public place. And you girl are not welcomed at our table, so you go back to your own table and with your own kind."
Carnal advice is worth less than silence. First ask yourself if Jesus would have done what you suggested.

Pope Has Offended Many Muslims

shira: We should deport every single one of them.

And to think Christ died for your iniquities. Do you even understand what Christ did for you?

Can Christians Drink One Beer

[2] And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for *wine*, or for *strong drink*, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household

Wherefore your homespun theory about God hating wine?

Can Christians Drink One Beer

[1] shira: alcohol is one thing I hate. God hates it too.

I have no doubt you hate it, and it's your freedom in Christ to do so. But making an unsubstantiated claim that God also hates it just plain ignores scripture. As suggested by John read Deut. 14:26 -

How Do You Memorize Scriptures

[2] Additionally I use internet resources to help with my study e.g. online Bibles and concordances. Your warning against taking scripture out of context is also very important; adjacent scriptural verses are mutually supporting and taking a single verse out of context is the first step down the road of doctrinal error.

How Do You Memorize Scriptures

[1] Phil_the_elder, I'm glad to see your view. I thought I was the only one holding a contrarian view concerning scripture memorization. Perhaps it's an individual thing but I find it easier to learn things topically and according to the underlying principle rather than memorize details. [to cont]

Why Are Todays Kids Mean

Perhaps kids have not yet learnt how to hide human nature in daily living as well as adults. And by human nature I mean both acts of kindness and acts of cruelty.
