Penpal user names are meaningless. Most of us are not using our real names. The meaning of Bulldog, Bullfrog, Goofy, LooneyBird or Dingbat doesn't affect too much in the big picture.

If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish you feed him for life.

Here is your fish: Barbara female name from Greek and Latin meaning foreign, strange, exotic, mysterious.

One time this therapist told me that the reason I had depression was because of my nick name: suziblues. My dad called me that from the time I was a baby...and I always thought it was cause of my blue eyes! But I guess names do have an effect on how you feel.

Tommie: The meaning of the name Barbara is like Barabas. They chose Barabas over Jesus. This is not saying that all people with this name was like Barabas but it is a line that is wicked and does their own will.
---anonymous on 2/17/07

What is the meaning of the name Barbara?
---Tommie on 2/17/07

Tommie, I do think a name often affects how a person sees themselves, and how others view them, My son's name is Robert Benjamin, I thought either name sounded strong. Of course he ended up being called 'Bobby' by most and it stuck. As a teen he asked everyone to call him "Bob." He thought 'Bobby' sounded silly. As he's gotton older, most of his friends call him Bob. He's 6'4" and muscular, I think 'Ben' or Benjamin would suit him better, it sounds strong!

Yeah. I saw it in the bible & there is a group w/ that name. I liked the way it sounded even though it is a man's name. To me it sounds like it can be a girl's name.

Rickey, did you pick your daughter's name ahead knowing the meaning?
---Jimbo on 2/15/07

I love naming babies... and puppies. :)

One of the leaders at my old cell church had a little girl named Ananja (pronounced ananya). I thought it was so pretty. He said it was a Hebrew name and He told me what it meant but I forgot.

One of my friends told me that her dad named her after the Playboy playmate of the month that she was born in. I always thought she was yanking me around, so one day I looked it up on the internet and sure enough, she was named after Miss February. lol

Agnes, that would be good news for Dweezel, Moon Unit, and Diva Muffin Zappa, if they care!
---NVBarbara on 2/14/07

I named my daughter Amaryllis. It's different (and beautiful) but not weird. Homer uses the name for a shepherdess. It's means bright and sparkling like a brook and is used to describe a fresh country girl. Of course, there is also the flower by that name. Until she was about 5, she called herself Riddith, which had to be translated for anyone who asked her for her name!
---Mary_Ann on 2/14/07

Parents choose names for their children without thought of its meaning. Poor offspring have to accept the name even if funny and has ugly meaning. Praise God, He knows us and looks at the heart not our names.

Your name tells you who you are in the Kingdom of God. Messiah=Annointed. Eve=Life
Sarah=Princess. Christ=Jesus. Noah=Relief.
Jacob=Heel. Esau=Harry. Moses=Pulled out. The Bible tells you who you are from the least to the greatest. Men started marrying women with holy names to steal their titles/names from them and then threw them to Sheol. There were Giants in the land and they saw the sons and daughters were beautiful so they had children by them.
