I believe it is acceptable to test the Holy Spirit within you. Many times I have asked the Holy Spirit to show me if it is him speaking to me rather than something else when I do this most the time the holy spirit quickly passes the test. Example, I believed the Holy Spirit told me to witness to someone in Church. I was very reluctant, and finally I ask if this is the Holy Spirit speaking to me have the pew empty out up to the person. Instantly about 5 or 6 teenagers got up and went forward to the altar to pray. Okay I said here I go, I went, person got mad turned me down. Three weeks later same thing happened this time she ran forward and received the Lord Jesus Christ!!! Be available to the Holy Spirit and he will show you what to do.

If you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and Baptized I believe you have the Holy spirit already. According to John 1:12, but as many as received him, to them gave he power to become sons of God, even to them that believe in his name.

First keep seeking Jesus. Second get in a Holy Ghost filled church. Then just pray and have other believers pray with you. The evidence of speaking in tongues will come. I attend an Apostolic church and its time to rejoice when a brother or sister gets the Holy Ghost. I will be praying for you brother.

If you really are serious and want the baptism of the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues be diligent and pray for it until the Lord gives it to you.
Don't be surprised if you don't get right a way.
Some get it after proving their sincerity and diligence.
Many times they are the ones that get it and stay when those who receive it easiy fall away.
Not all who get it easy fall away though.
And some that are persistant end up being greatly used of God.

Holy Spirit baptism, apart from water baptism.
Before we are born again in Christ, we are unable to comprehend becoming a new creation in Christ, put away the old man, put on the new.

The Holy Spirit is given to us to convey the knowledge of God. He draws us to Jesus.
We yield and ask the Holy Spirit to baptize us into His power.

If one third of your body was missing, you would be maimed.
To be missing one third of your spiritual being, you are spiritually maimed.

Many say they love Jesus but reject or resist the Holy Spirit.

These are easily deceived by false teachings without the Holy Spirit, teacher of the Church, dwelling in them.

All knowledge is in the Word of God, the Holy Spirit reveals revelation.
The Word of God is proclaimed, witnessed and confirmed in us by the Holy Spirit.
---MMR on 4/17/08

What do you mean by "get the Holy Spirit". Do you mean that you too wonder what it means. I have often wondered if speaking in tongues was a sign of a person having the Holy Spirit.
----Sue on 12/16/07

Acts 19:4-7, Acts 8:18, 1 Timothy 4:14. The Holy Spirit is given by the laying on of hands by one duly ordained.
Acts 1:22 relates to the ordination of the replacement for Judas Iscariot. This was to complete the twelve, but the practice of laying on of hands to ordain their successors continued. Titus 1:5, Hebrews 6:4. That is what the Bible says and what the RCC teaches. Different denominations have different traditions on how and when the Holy Spirit is conferred.

Acts 10:44-48. Here we have a rare exception to the rule. Here the gentiles received the Holy Ghost directly from God in response to Peter's speech. But this was a sign from God to indicate that it was acceptable to baptise Gentiles into the body of Christ. After this, these Gentiles were baptised, the first Gentiles to receive this gift.

Every man who has been justified by grace for Christ's sake through faith receives the holy spirit as a covenantal promise. but the word of God birngs the spirit so much reading increases the Spirit in the believer(My words are spirit and life)
---Guy on 4/8/07

Every person that gets saved recieves the Holy Ghost (spirit) but not everyone receives the baptism of the Holy Ghost when they first got saved. Many of the people in the New Testament didn't recieve the baptism of the Holy Ghost until much after they were converted. There were some that were saved and baptized by water but never heard of the Holy Ghost baptism.

I am not sure what you mean by what do I do to receive the Holy Spirit. Salvation you will have Him. The anointing, the power of God, He will give to you in degrees as you grow.
---catherine on 4/7/07

I can only speak for me personally, After I read the 2nd Chapter of Acts, I was 14y.o. and my really sweet friend came over to me, she was same age, she laid her hands on my head and I spoke in angelic sounding tongues, after that moment I experienced more power like electrical watts instead of running on 10 watts, it was like 100 watts, I continue to ask God for more downloads of his power.

You get the Holy Spirit upon salvation.
---Heidi on 4/6/07

When you accepted Christ as Saviour you received 100% of the Holy Spirit. How you allow the Holy Spirit to control your life is a different matter. And remember, gifts are given by God, not by man. Just because you don't have the gift you want doesn't indicate you are any less a Christian than someone who has a gift you want.

Don't forget you have to turn it off with the < / u > after the word
---Bruce5656 on 3/30/06

Lupe ... You probably put the underline command in too soon. You will notice the "I" was not underlined.
Isn't this fun !!!

Thank you brother Bruce, why did the underline come out from Love all the way through? just a question. I like the way it came out but the underline went all the way through. thank for the lesson, and it will help a lot in explaining things better sometimes.
---Lupe2618 on 3/30/06

I love you and how is this coming out? I hope that I am doing this right.
---Lupe2618 on 3/30/06

Bruce Let's ee if I draft it like that whilst on the blog ... Here goes with bold, now with underlining and now with italics and what about italic and underlining
Sorry to be so noisy.
Hard work though!!
---alan_of_UK on 3/30/06

Bruce I assume you mean we do that in Word and then copy across? Here goes I really do hope this works .. Now to try italics Now to underline and now I will copy and paste and see what happens!!
Well it does not show in the draft so let's see preview
Well WOW I hope I am allowed to shout at this success

Did that get it?
---Linda on 3/30/06

Ok, here is the secret, but you have to promise not to tell ok? :)

To make bold use use < b > before and < / b > after the letter word or phrase.
Italic is < i > and < / i >
Underline is < u > and < / u >

However, you must remove any spaces between the < and the >. If I did not put spaces there to show you this they would not show up at all.
So you would have < no-spacebno-space > etc.
---Bruce5656 on 3/30/06

I am going to try to put in bold, and underlining, and italics. I have prepared this in Word, and will copy and paste it onto CN Here goes ... No it did not work!!
How did you do it Bruce & DoryLory?
---alan_of_UK on 3/30/06

Exzucuh has a good answer as do others. Don't trust man's feelings to know about God's love. IF the word of God says you have the Holy Ghost, YOU DO!. That acceptance is not an easy thing in the carnal mind. You must have the mind of a child and accept God on blind faith. He is the God of His Word. It will manifest in your life if you water the seed faith has planted.

When you are born of your mother you have the spirit of life given to you by God, that made you a living soul. When bornagain by the Spirit of God we receive the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. And it raises you from death to new life. When we are Baptized in the Spirit we are emersed in the Holy Ghost just like water baptism the power comes when the holy Ghost is upon you.exzucuh

Bruce--Sorry, this is off topic. Even when I write my answer in "Word" and copy to CN, the underline and italics don't come through. It doesn't matter whether I "copy" or "drag and drop". Any other suggestions?

Mima - God is comparing Himself to mankind, noting that man being evil remains capable of doing good. He is saying, if evil people can do good, how much better can I, having no evil in Me, do?

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is only available to those already saved.

"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him." (John 14:15-17)
---DoryLory on 3/29/06

No. God is not the Father of evil men. To call Him Father, you must be born again, born of His Spirit.
---Linda on 3/29/06

Looking again at Luke 11:9-13, does this mean that our heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to even evil men that ask Him? Please pay particular attention to verse 13

My pastor has just finished a series on the Holy Spirit. We receive the Holy Spirit at the very moment we accept Christ. We don't have to do anything extra or special. It is at that time that we also receive the gifts of the Spirit. We don't pray to receive any of the gifts. They are bestowed on us at the moment we are saved and the Holy Spirit indwells us.

Moderator - How did your pastor explain as to which spiritual gifts each person received?

My experience was- I ask the LORD for the gift of tongues. After a few months of asking, it was while paying one night in church, I suddenly could not get any english out of my mouth all I could speak was tongues.
---mima 11/7/2005
---mima on 11/8/05

But I couldn't speak and intuitively I reached the conclusion that God wanted to extend the fast. So I continued the fast. The following day the same thing happened; so I stood up,raised my hands to God, focused on Him I directed my words to Him and said," Lord I will not end the fast until you tell me to."
On the third day as I was feeding my baby, while praising God which I did all day long-all of a sudden, unexpectedly, calmly I began speaking in tongues! God is good.
---Eloisa on 4/21/05

I can only talk from my own experience. After my salvation experience while praying;I heard the words clearly-"I want you to fast" The voice was profound and loving. In my heart I knew that it was God. A year later-that's another story- I finally obeyed. Being new in the Lord and after asking for advice, I was told that a fast started at 6am and ended at 6pm. So I started prayer in the morning and read the bible(amid taking care of three, young children, a newborn, a 2yr.old and a 3yr.old)At 6pm I kneeled down to give God thanks and end the fast;but ---To be con't

We need to have faith in God and not doubt. There is the gift of the laying on of hands and the prayer of faith. Does your church believe in the gifts of the spirit? I was prayed for by the laying on of hands by other believers with gifts and I recieved by faith I would speak. Latter that night while praying the Holy Spirit came on me and I spoke in tongues.

The infilling of the Holy Spirit is a gift from God. When you get to where all you think about is God, and want the power of the Holy Spirit to guide you, the the Lord will fill you with His fire, and Spirit with the evidence of Speaking with Tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. You need to get in a Holy Ghost baptized church that believes in Speaking in Tongues. Some to think about: Church of God, Assembly of God, etc. Also, If there is anything between you and God, Pray that God will help you get through those things, and seek God with all that is within you!!

"And I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you... If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Luke 11: 9. 13
---Robin on 4/11/05

Are you refering to "The Baptism in the Holy Spirit" as in Acts chapter 2 or are you talking about recieving the Holy Spirit at salvation?
---Bruce5656 on 4/11/05

Dear Kenneth
How to receive the infilling of the Holy spirit is the same way you did when you receved Christ. Not difficult. Read Romans chapter 10-10.and rejoice and receive it the same way Believe the word. It is not a feeling. Believe the words of Jezus. Who asks, You are already saved. A beautiful new creation, the past is no more. You are now His son. And as his son according to his word He says aks in my name and it will be yours. Confess and receive. remember it is not a feeling. It is believing what the scripture says.

You have the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 says, 'But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.'
