Why Don't Christians Study Bible

I have known a lot of Christians who have only a superficial knowledge of what is in the Bible, and I wonder: why don't Christians study it more?

Many Christians or church attendees (note: difference) neglect study. Some reasons: 1. Leaders don't study the Bible or encourage study. 2.Reliance on God type TV/books only giving opinions though taken as Bible fact. 3. Laziness. 4.Church going is enough & have no interest in the Bible. 5. Think it's too hard. (get with a Bible studier and learn!) 6. Don't want to be challenged/convicted or find out they have a wrong view of God & His Word. There are, of course, many other reasons not to study the Bible. THE BIG ONE BEING THE DEVIL DOESN'T WANT YOU TO! YOU'LL GET DISCOURAGEMENT FROM STUDY AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY. STUDY DON'T GIVE UP. IT'S THE WORD OF GOD THE BASIS FOR LIVING IN HIM.

It is written, 'You study the scriptures because you think in them is eternal life, but they only testify of Jesus Christ.' That could be one reason. Another reason could be the harvest has not come yet therefore the workmen are not ready. Another reason could be nobody is praying that more workmen are sent into the field. But the worst case scenario is that God is holding them back because Satan has to be loosed for a time.

If God can create man out of dust, How could he not be able to keep his words for us to read, and in a language we can read. I stand behind the KJV. Knowing what Satan started in Genesis 3:1-6, Here Satan subtracts from, adds to, then he denies it completely. God warms about taking away or adding to his word.

When the Lord Jesus Christ was killed on the Cross, Satan thought he had finally beaten God. How ever God his revealed the Mystery program. Satan lost! Christ is our perfect salvation. So with Satan knowing he has lost. He has started to work on the christians to keep them from passing along God's gift. His plan now is to confuse and stop the believer, with many corrupt translations.

christians do not study more because they are too much into the things of the world. Not everyone born christian is really a christian. You keep reading the Bible if you are, and invite your friends to bible studies. Get into the habbit and others will follow and join. Set an example.

Funny you should say this, Since we are encouraged throughout the word to write the scriptures down and possibly to have them at hand at all times since in them are lifes answers to (The Lottery) Salvation. According to Proverbs we would be Spiritually, physically rich, right down to Long life and even our Health would be taken care of ( no need for health Diets, pills, surgery, Senile Dementia or old peps homes) hehe, Oh and there would be no need for Christianet. LOL

i grew up with very little knowledge of what was in the book of Romans. but now that i have spent months paraphrasing the entire book, using several translations and a commentary, i really know it well. it was worth all the effort.

Some do study some don't, some are only "Sunday Christians" sohw up to church ,open their book ,& that's it during church services, others are everyday followers.i try to read my bibel daily, but if not I have tapes. raising 2 boys ages 4&9mths is difficult to sit& read unless they're zzzing,& even then sometimes I forget, but overall we try our best.

Jesus said, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31,32 It seems TRUE disciples do study God's word. Paul warns us in 2 Thess 2 that those who don't love truth (therefore don't seek it in His word) will fall to strong delusions and will perish. Jesus also warned that not everyone who calls Him Lord will be saved. Matt 7:21-23 But those who do the will of the Father. How can one know His will if they don't study?

This is nothing new. Acts 17:11, "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

Too many people are content to have someone tell them "this is what the Bible says" and never investigate for them selves to see if it were true. If everyone did, there would be some "preachers"/"evangelists" etc out of business!

The Scripture says that, My people perish for lack of knowledge. They don't discipline themselves to study, and it's easier for them to do other things then to read. But today they have the Bible on tapes and CDs and DVDs, so they can even have it read to them while they're passively doing other things. So there really is no excuse for a Christian not to know the Word.

Do you mean "Christian society" or true Believers? Many I know attend both morning and evening sermons with Bible open, and also go to some Bible studies in homes during the week... and when you hear them speak, it's often about what they've read on their own at other times! Is your church like that? If not, get people excited curt! Get 'em interested in what you've learned about God and what He is doing in your life; if you need a boost, try listening to someone like John MacArthur if he's on the radio near you.

I know of over 300 Christians in my little town alone that devote themselves to the Bible. It is possible that these Christians are unaware of how close the Scripture brings them to the Lord.

Personally, I think as Christians should take time to study the bible. As a Christian, one maintains a relationship with God. How can you nurture the relationship if one does not know God, and what would please him?
