I believe they are one and the same. We love our neighbor because God commands that we do. When we are serving God, loving our neighbor is part of the Fruit of the Spirit.

gregg:Loving thy neighbor means showing respect to the neighbor, helping out when and how we can. Serving God is showing respect and obedince to Him. When we love our neighbors we are in obedience to God.Therefore we are serving God by doing this, as He has said in His Word.We are still to be discerning christians and use wisdom when dealing with others. We cannot save the world but we can do something pleasing to the Lord.

Obedience, praise, worship, tithing, offerings, sacrifices are serving God.

Acts of charity, forgiveness, kindness, etc. are loving your neighbor.

So, Jesus says the commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves is "like" (Mark 12:31) our commandment to love God with all our heart and soul and mind and strength. How is it that loving our neighbor as ourselves is "like" loving God with all we've got?

ONE thing . . . God's love is ONE love > while we are in God's love enjoying Him (Romans 5:5), God's ALL-loving love has us ALSO loving ALL people like He we are s-h-a-r-i-n-g THIS personally with our Father.

"Jesus answered him, ' The first of all the commandmens is: "Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strengrh." This is the first commandment. And the second,

like it,

is, this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." There is no other commandment greater than these.'" (Mark 12:29-31)

I would say:"No difference!" When you love your neighbor you are serving both, for God asked us to serve him by loving our neighbor.

Well, Greg you really cannot serve God if you don't love your neighbor.

Think of this, when we get to Heaven what would we do if Jesus looked exactly like the one we hated the most on earth?

Dear Gregg: Loving your neighbor IS serving God! And that "neighbor" may be living in your house, next door, or in a foreign country. Ask the Holy Spirit to send someone whom He wants you to witness to daily either in words or deeds or both. Believe me, He will! The "laborers are few". The Holy Spirit will place this desire in your heart. Press on! Bless you as you go about doing God's perfect will!

Ulrika ... surely our love for our neighbour should be more positive than that?

And who is our neighbour nowadays? Is it just our friends, or the neeedy in our own society, or does it include the starving of the world?

If you love your neighbor, you are serving God. He commands us to love one another as He loves us. And we understand that through the scarifice of His Son Jesus, for our sins. God Bless

How can we say we love God who we have not seen if you don't love people we have seen. Love is the fulfilling of the law Ro 13:10 Jesus fulfilled the law when he died for us. When we love others we don't committ sins against them, steal, murder...

there is no diffrence! HOW can you serve GOD and not love your neighbor?
---willow on 5/2/05

Loving your neighbor is a part of loving God. Its interchangable. If we love God, we will love our neighbor. If we love our neighbors, that is a part of God's love. There are some that are difficult to love, we may not even 'like' them, but according to God we must love them.

1 John 4:20, "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?"

Well my friend is flat on her back and can't do anything (last stage of cancer). She really does love God but feels she cannot serve anyone. But she is a prayer. For anyone. But she says all she sees is the ceiling and every now and then she can go in a wheelchair. So now you know most people consider serving God activity. But loving God emotional.
