Rom.2:12Those people who don't know about God's Law will still be punished for what they do wrong. And the Law will be used to judge everyone who knows what it says.God accepts those who obey his Law,but not those who simply hear it.Some people naturally obey the Law's commands, even though they don't have the Law.This proves that the conscience is like a law written in the human heart. And it will show whether we are forgiven or condemned, when God appoints Jesus Christ to judge everyone's secret thoughts...
---Ann5758 on 11/20/07

The Bible is quite clear. Every person is responsible for the evidence that God has provided via His creation and human moral conscience. It will not reveal Christ, but will prepare the heart to receive Christ when the Church is obedient to the Great Commission.

You can be asured that Jesus will make sure the gospel will be heard by all and what we do with it is up to us you better belive they are having more revial over sea's than we are here
---Betty on 9/8/06

Thanks, Sheila. As Jesus put it, "No one can come to Me unless the Father is drawing him to Me."
---Jack on 5/29/05

I thought about this very matter today before church, and the Epistle was Romans 3, the Goispel from Matthewe about becoming "Fishers of Men"--the one pasasge quoted here and the other complementing it!

Curious, isn't it?

Anna--if you are burdened or concerned for the spiritual state of these who "walk in darkness," maybe God is calling you to bring Jesus to them. Go ask Him!
---Jack on 5/29/05

BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05-Romans 3:10-12 so true that there are none that seek God -- not until after He has sought them out first.David etc sought God,but not on their own.Jack says it well on 5/28/05 about explaining the love of God.None seek to get closer to God, so when you see that person is seeking to get closer, you KNOW they are doing it through Christ cuz it's only through Christ that we have desire to get closer to God.
---Sheila on 5/29/05

BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05- "there is NOT ONE MAN that has ever been saved because he recognized God in nature"? Really? How do you know with any certainty? Without revelation from God,we wouldn't recognize Him even in nature.ONLY by God are we called to seek to get closer to Him&who's to say He's never called to someone through nature?Scripture tells us we don't do it on our own.
---Sheila on 5/29/05

BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05-Scripture tells us that we do right things by nature cuz of God's laws on our hearts even in unbelievers. But doing what's right means nothing without love.Doing what's right doesn't mean we're seeking God.It's only by God that we can love,&only by God that we can seek Him.That's why we know when meet someone who loves others, when we meet someone seeking to get closer to God, we know that person is doing such things through Jesus&through nothing on their own.
---Sheila on 5/29/05

"Every knee SHALL bow and every tongue SHALL confess..."

If there is the least desire to love and please God, it will be glory for that hypothetical pagan to do so. He will say, "So it was You all the time!" and Christ will say, "Get over here and give Me a kiss!"

For an unloving Christian Pharisee, Christ will say, "Who are you and what are you doing here? I never knew you! Go away."
---Jack on 5/28/05

There are two ways that God has revealed Himself to man.
Natural revelation
Specific revelation
---BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05

PART ONE cont.:
Natural revelation includes nature, history, and the conscience of man.
Specific revelation includes, The Bible, Gods appearances/speaking to man, Prophecy, miracles and in particular, Jesus who is the Living Word and revelation of the Father.
---BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05

Sinful nature is not just an impediment to knowing the Truth in greater detail, it separates man from God. Puts him in the position of being the enemy of God Romans 5:8-10. Romans 3:23, "For ALL have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

While Natural revelation is apparently enough to reveal the nature of or at least the existence of God to man, there is NOT ONE MAN that has ever been saved because he recognized God in nature.
---BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05

And while we do have a conscience that shows us right from wrong, there is NOT ONE MAN that lives up to the dictates of his conscience.

Romans 3:10-12, "As it is written, There is NONE righteous, no, not one: There is NONE that understandeth, there is NONE that seeketh after God. They are ALL gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is NONE that doeth good, no, NOT ONE."
---BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05

Therefore they stand defenseless and accused before a Holy and Righteous God. Romans 2:3, "And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?"
---BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05

You mention James 4:8 Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you. Yes and the ONLY way to draw nigh to God is through Jesus, His son. John 14:6. As I have shown you, man in his natural state, (Total Depravity, Romans 1:21-32), does NOT seek after God. Romans 3:11, "There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God."
---BRUCE5656 on 5/24/05

Bruce5656 on 5/20/05-Had read your response to Pierr7598 first. All seeking to get closer to God get closer to Him(Jms4:8)&only through Jesus even if it's in ignorance.Ignorance wouldn't save a person, except in theory. In reality, those truly seeking to get closer to God recognize Truth;&those who don't recognize Truth are no worse off than what they already were.

Bruce5656 on 5/20/05-I certainly DON'T mean that it's a greater love to leave the ignorant alone so they can be saved by ignorance. It doesn't work that way. They can worship in ignorance, but it's God who saves them&the more they know the better for building.Ones worshipping in ignorance who don't believe Truth, would NOT have been saved in ignorance either.
---Sheila on 5/21/05

Bruce5656 on 5/20/05-Where does Paul clearly teach there is no salvation through ignorance?
---Sheila on 5/21/05

Bruce5656 on 5/20/05-Many may be saved who seem not to believe when shown to them.May believe Truth in different terms. Can't love unless you're a child of God.So lots of "good people" who "don't believe" but do love their neighbor, really do believe&are children of God.Sinful nature is hampering what they can build by not allowing them to know the Truth in greater detail. To believe in the name of Jesus is to love the light rather than darkness, because their deeds are good(John 3:16-19).
---Sheila on 5/21/05

Thanks for your note. Somtimes it makes a difference as to when I read: late at night or early AM.

No I am not. But it must be taken in context and the next verses explain what Paul is talking about fully. It is critical to undersand verses IN CONTEXT other wise we have Jesus teaching hate for example: Luke 14:26, "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters..., he cannot be my disciple." Do we really think that Jesus was telling us to hate? No. Why? Because of the context of the rest of his teaching.

Acts 17:22 and 23 - God reached into their hearts and lead them to the knowledge of God

"......... I even found an altar with this inscription: " TO THE UNKNOWN GOD."

---barbara67 on 5/20/05

So then, Bruce, are you saying that what is spoken of in Romans 2:12-16 is untrue?
---Ann5758 on 5/20/05

Read it again. I said "IF it were not NECESSARY to take them the Gospel". My question was, why would He tell us to go IF it were not necessary? (see my post to Sheila)

I do not believe for a minute that it is not necessary for Paul clearly teaches in Romans that they ARE lost with out a knowledge of Christ. Romans 1:18-2:16

Notice Romans 2:1 Therefore thou art INEXCUSABLE, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Romans 3:10,11 As it is written, There is NONE righteous, no, NOT ONE: There is NONE that understandeth, there is NONE that seeketh after God.
---Bruce5656 on 5/20/05

Please read my response to Pierr7598 first.

IF it were not necessary to take them the gospel.

IF they were saved though ignorance.

Consider what would happen if we took a people the gospel that did not previously know. Now they become responsible for what they do know. Instead of a whole culture being saved through their ignorance, (by your you have only a few being saved because now they have knowledge of Christ and not all will accept Him.
---Bruce5656 on 5/20/05

Wouldn't the greater act of love be to let them alone in their ignorance AND use the money that we would spend on missions to feed the poor, house the homeless etc.?

This is really a moot point because Paul so clearly taught us that there is no salvation through ignorance. (see my post to Pierr7958) and Jesus said:

John 3:16-19 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM should not perish, but
---Bruce5656 on 5/20/05

have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT IS CONDEMNED ALREADY, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. AND THIS IS THE CONDEMNATION, that light is come into the world, and MEN LOVED DARKNESS RATHER THAN LIGHT, because their deeds were evil.

Ann5758 on 5/18/05 explains it well.Thank you Ann5758!It's been asked,so why spread gospel if people can be saved without it?Ask yourself, does knowing Christ mean nothing to you except to be saved?I'd MUCH rather live my life knowing Christ than worshiping Him in ignorance. Also,we are building in this life for the glory of God-ALL of us.Don't we want to equip people with the best tools possible for that? And what better helper than personally knowing Christ?Which is what we seek to teach people.
---Sheila on 5/19/05

Bruce 5656
I think I read your post carefully. You were insinuating that since those who don't know about Christ will be saved anyway, why should missionaries go overseas! That is implying that it would be bettr not to send them and keep people ignorant. That position questions God's directive. He said: GO! you say WHY SHOULD YOU GO? (I am sure you did noy mean any evil.)
---Pierr7958 on 5/19/05

That is my point exactly. If it were not necessary to take them the Gospel, we would not have been told to do so. What would be the point?
---Bruce5656 on 5/19/05

Your last blog was a bit on the weak side!
You are questioning the Lord's command: "Go, preach the good new and baptize..."
As a missionary in Africa for 14 plus years I did not expect to reach every person with the good news but we tried our best with the Lord's help BUT just not going when the Lord called was not an option.

Let me say that the Good News is reaching the far corners of the world, and the response is terrific. I spent 14 years in Rwanda + Burundi, Africa and it was not rare to see people baptized by the hundreds. There will be some who will not hear about Jesus and their final destinaion will be determined by God, based on the light they received and their respons to it.
---Pierr7958 on 5/19/05

That is why we have a conscious. There will be some who has never heard of the gospel, the bible speaks of this. God will judge them according how they live and treat others. And what is in their heart. God knows all and he sees all. He gave us all a conscious, he will judge them accordingly.
---Rebecca_D on 5/18/05

If it is true that God will not "punish those who've never heard of Christ" then what is the point of sending missionaries? They are all saved anyway (according to that logic.)
---Bruce5656 on 5/18/05

Romans2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law;and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;Romans5:13 For until the law sin was in the world ;but sin is not imputed(attribute wickedness) when there is no law.Note; To be redeemed from sin, people have to know the redeemer, and what sin is.We don't punish children for doing something they don't know is wrong, would God punish those who've never heard of Christ?God punishes those who hear, and reject Him.

Read Romans 1:20 God has revealed Himself through nature so man has no excuse to not accept a higher power, an intelligent creator of all things. Those who do not accept God at all are doomed, I am certain, but those who accept ONE God as Creator but have not heard of His Son at the point when they die will not be doomed (I believe)because God will judge them according to the knowledge they had. God is aware of who has heard of His Son and who hasn't.
---F.F. on 5/18/05

They would be judged according to the O.T. whether they were following God's Spirit of righteousness or whether they were evil doers. Revelation 20:12 says "...the books were opened"...It is plural. And each will be judged out of those things that are written in the books, and rewarded according to their deeds whether good or evil.
---Eloy on 5/18/05

ROMANS 1:20 Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made, So they are without excuse. This fact should drive man to seek God and HIS plan of redemption. God is not willing that any should perish....They KNOW...and have a choice

Paul deals with this very subject in Romans 2:12-16. Why don't you take a look at that in a few different translations and see if it answers your question?

If you would like, write me and I will explain it in detail for you.

There are examples of just about every kind of conversion and understanding of the heart that we will ever need to learn about in the Bible.

Circumstances take missionaries everywhere. Acts 27 and 28 are examples of unplanned stops that become ministry to the people of Malta.

*************Another passage - TO THE UNKNOWN GOD - ACTS 17:22 - 34.

In minstry it is said "If God needs a missionary - God will get one there"
