if you feel that you've not been forgiven after you've repented according to 1 john 1:9 and 2:1, then you are dealing with feelings.

add to your repentance the scripture that God remembers it no more, and receive His ability to not remember it anymore against yourself.

also, at that time forgive anyone who's offended or trespassed against you and pledge to God to not remember it anymore against them.

this exercise is in keeping with loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself.

if you afterwards still feel guilty then go through the process again. restating your position is the obedience of truth that purifies the soul.

Tomas, you are correct, the words of Jesus in Matthew is talking about believers as reference. It teaches because of what Peter had ask, Peter knew about what the ribbis believed in citing several verses from Amos (1:3,6,9,11,13). which taught that since God forgave Israel's enemies only 3 times, it was presumptuous and unnecessary to forgive anyone more than 3 times, but Jesus gave him an innumeralbe times number. Seventy times seven, And in his picture of the kingdom of heaven, we are to forgive not by a number of 3 but always forgive. Those who do not follow this before God, God would chastise the individual for not conforming to the will of God. As the slave in the story was.

I do not belong to this website but i feel i need to express myself. I'm 14 yrs old and i hacked two people on a virtual community. I took their items but gave them back. I asked god to forgive me,and i think he has but i still feel guilty. What should I do?

The Lord doesnt stand still. Why did Christ have to die for sin? Are we still under law or under grace? Why dont we still sacrifice animals to atone for sin? Gods plan is set but is set for changes.
---duane on 9/19/08

So Duane, does Matt. 18:23-35 apply to just the people under the law? Because this parable is very similar in intent to the Lord's Prayer when it says , 'forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors'. How does Matt 18:23-35 apply to us? Also one of my favorite verses is, "If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed" John 8:31. Don't we continue in His word even after the cross? Aren't the Lord's Prayer and Matt 18:23-35 His word? Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever.

Jesus taught the law while on earth. Many things HE said were to those still under the law. We must be careful to take things in context and who they are directed at.
Jesus taught people under law how to pray.
We dont pray, father forgive us as we have forgiven others. We are forgiven through the Cross. In HIM we HAVE the forgiveness of sin.
---duane on 9/16/08

Duane, So Before the Cross= IF you forgive, you will be forgiven.
After the Cross= We forgive as Christ HAS forgiven us. You are saying that what Jesus said before the cross doesn't apply to us now? Your reply makes no sense. Jesus said Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Whatever Jesus said before the cross applies to us not only today, but forever. The Lords prayer says, Forgive us our debts, AS WE Forgive our debtors. This applies to us forever.

"How do you forgive YOURSELF"does anyone offend themselves,Please explain how you offend YOURSELF.If Not then what is there to forgive? This is what came across ny mind, when first I read the Post.Jesus says "Forgive us OUR trespasses, as we tresspass against those who trespas against us" so in essence we offend our neighbour NOT ourselves.
---MIC on 9/12/08

Before the Cross= IF you forgive, you will be forgiven.
After the Cross= We forgive as Christ HAS forgiven us.

You can believe you are forgiven all you want, but if you don't forgive others, you won't be forgiven. The parable of the man who was forgiven a huge debt, went out and didn't forgive his neighbor a small debt, and he was thrown BACK IN PRISON because he didn't forgive. In fact it says the King was extremely angry with that man.
'Forgive us our debts AS WE FORGIVE our debtors.' Jesus said it, I believe it. Forgive and you will be forgiven. It starts with the blood of Christ and after we receive forgiveness we need to be quick to forgive others.
---thomas on 9/10/08

While we were yet sinners, HE forgave us.We dont gain forgiveness by our effort, its a gift of the Cross. Why will some always try and take credit for for something they had no part in?..Jesus took sin upon HIMSELF, HIS blood was spilt, so all mankind could come to God for salvation.

Believe it, your forgiven.
---duane on 9/9/08

Oh yeah, I can do a same sin again, then know I'm in a mess. And I have wondered if I was forgiven, since I knew I was doing it. Then it came, "Forgive others." Yes, Jesus does say, "'And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.'" (Mark 11:25) As I got busy forgiving in prayer for others, I felt forgiven, myself. And as I submit to God and His peace takes over with His ruling and guiding (Colossians 3:15), I get beyond that guilt, as I get busy personally submitting to God and giving attention to *Him*. We can be too concerned about ourselves.
---Bill_bila5659 on 9/8/08

"Forgive us OUR debts AS we forgive our debtors." Forgiveness is directly related to how we forgive others. God freely forgives, however, if we don't forgive others, it will not flow to us. Stephen even forgave the ones who were stoning him and took his life. If he can forgive them, who is there we can't forgive?
---thomas on 9/8/08

It is true that 1 Jn1,9 tells us to confess our sins, but in order to confess we have to TELL someone. admit, you need a confessor. That is why Jesus said whose sins you forgive they are forgiven and whose sins you retain they are retined. This misinterpretation of God's word will cause undisclosed sins to be mans ruination. All teachings in the bible relate to Gods Church. so those who are of other denominations misenterpret its true meaning.I do not wish to cause a controversy but to put forward God's law on this important subject.'His will Must be done'.
---MIC on 9/8/08

You're probably going to need to study what the Blood of Jesus accomplished for your sins. There's a book called "The Power of the Blood" - once you understand the cleansing Power of Jesus shedding His Blood for your sins at Calvary, you will be able to confess your sin, repent by showing remorse for your sin, and then accept His forgiveness because of what Jesus did for you when He shed His blood for you.

Read Romans 8:1 There is therefore now NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..etc. Memorize this and speak this out loud every day, all day long. The devil will hate hearing this, but he knows it's the truth.
---donna8365 on 9/8/08

1 John 1:9 says,'If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness'. Our job is to believe His word and trust Him. Then forgive yourself and don't repeat the sin. Will you sin again? Probably, but eventually you will give up the sin if you truly love Jesus and have victory over it. Remember, Jesus is perfect, we are being perfected. It is a process. God does love you and will not give up on you.

I have been there and felt the same way you felt, that God just can't love us that much after we have messed up for the x time! BUT he does love us sooo much and we just have to HAVE FAITH and shut the devil up!

If you have repented and know that God has forgiven you, you then need to learn to except it, which is sometimes hard to do. Usually when you start feeling down on yourself it is from satan, he is always working over time and he wants nothing more than to make you or anyone else believe you haven't been forgiven. He puts the guilt on us and it will do a number on us. my husband has been saved since 77 and before he was saved there was alot of things he did, he hurt many of his loved ones..mary4964
---mary4964 on 3/7/07

God has forgiven him, everyone he has hurt has forgiven him, but he has problems forgiving himself. Even though he knows hes been forgiving. his life could be happier if he would just except has been hard on his loved ones to see this happen to him, he has so much guilt he carries around with him..mary4964
---mary4964 on 3/7/07

But we keep praying and we keep believing that he will realize it is from satan, he knows it is but he just can't break it loose...Please whatever you do, start claiming tha you are forgiven, you don't want to live a life like that...When things starts bugging you, give it to God, lay it at the foot of the cross and walk away, take a stand against satan, blind him away from you...remember God loves you and He has forgiven you, learn to except it mary4964

I have to read and claim the scriptures. 1 John 1:9 states that God forgives us when we confess our sins to Him. Memorize it. Don't let the devil win the battle for your mind.
---Madison on 3/6/07

Satan is the accuser of the brethren. That's his job to keep you in guilt. This is different from Godly sorrow which leads to repentance. Not only has God forgiven your sin, but he forgot about it. Next time Satan acusses you, tell him God forgot my sin, ask him if he remembers what you did.
---Rick on 6/30/05

That is satan he tries to make us think that we aren't worth to be forgiven by God he tries to pull us from our Father in many ways and one way is bringing up our past sins. He is putting that cloud of doubt in your head. When satan reminds you of your past just remind him of his future :-)

When we ask God to forgive us He does, He not only forgives but He CHOOSES to FORGET as well. So when U repeatedly ask God to forgive you He has no idea what U R talking about. Have U forgiven yourself? If not do so; sometimes we can be our own worst enemy by not accepting ALL that Jesus did 4 us on Calvery. Forgiveness is not a feeling, it's a choice we all must make at least 7 X 7.
Shalom from Misha.

I have had the same problem sometimes; I just remind myself that Jesus has never let me down and he does what He says he will do. Read Beth Moore's book "Believing God".
---Becky on 5/23/05

Dear Lofty,
Why is it we know that Jesus shed His blood for us and all of our sin (unbelief) yet we think that adding a little self guilt in with His blood will make it all better. That would be like mixing goat blood in with the only true sacrifice that was the propitiation for God's wrath. It's not about how you feel, (in your soul realm) it's about what He did. Your sin really is paid for.
---sam7944 on 5/21/05

The Spirit of God is greater than your spirit. Believe that God's love for you is far greater than you, conscience and opinion. His sacrifice on the cross, the lashings, the beatings were to erase your guilt and make you a new creature. Live as the new creature. Praise Him early morning, all day long. Praise the shame away.

Dear Lofty,
God said if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrightousness, now if God said he forgives you,you are forgiven, forgive yourself and continue your walk with him.May his peace be on you.
---RUSSELL on 5/21/05

forgiveness is to not keep dwelling on the fault. GOD we are doubting His keep holding on to it as "our sin". Confess it and move on. Do not look to punish yourself with negitives. Since God forgives....who are we to hold contempt? It's the same as saying God's forgiveness isn't enough for me....I am beyond him....THAT is PRIDE.
---know_how_you_feel on 5/21/05

god knows our weaknesses. to err is human. no matter how grave your sin may be but the moment you feel sorry and ashamed of what you have done and go to the lord seeking his mercy and forgiveness he will wash away your sins. pray to the lord for an inner healing of guilt and try to be merciful and forgive others the wrongs they've done to you. this i feel can get you out of your own guilt.
---olive on 5/21/05

Don't let satan get the upper hand. Do what Jesus did and say, "Get behind Me satan." Also find a scripture that gives you comfort (like Philippians 4:13) and say it whenever you feel condemned. Remember, the Lord wants you to be free and the evil one wants your destruction. Each time you get the thought that you are not forgiven, say the scripture. Our minds cannot think two things at one time, so choose to think God's way. Freedom is for you too! Blessings.

Well agaist popular beliefs I hold that you Can Not forgive yourself but except God's forgivness and trust in His faithfullness and not our own. We can forgive others as commanded however forgivness is a outward act and in the recieving and you have to grasp that from the one who offers it being God Himself. Ask God for more grace to understand His Love for you and believe it.
---kirk on 5/20/05

please DO ALL that you have been advised to do. And keep doing it. Add to this - get into the presence of God. How? by spending time worshipping and praising Him. He promises to "inhabit" the praises of His people. He will in this wash your conscience clean with His love. You can experience that. It will take peseverence. It will take effort. It will take time. But it can happen. Press in to Him. He can fill all in all.
---kathy3339 on 5/20/05

I receive His forgiveness by faith, trusting in His Word. If He says that when we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9) ... then I simply trust Him to do it. Whether I feel it or not, I know He cannot lie so I rely on His Word. Read Psalm 103:8-14 (it will bless you!). He understands our limitations. He isn't looking for perfection, all He wants is a heart yielded to Him.
