He does not frustrate the grace of God...does not shut out God's grace, by paying attention to details of what the law says to do. But he surrenders and submits to God's grace, which is the effect and action of God's love in him. Law can't make people love. But only God's love is right...righteous. And Jesus died so we would be corrected into how God's love is righteous, rescuing us from our human ways of loving.

I didn't have to kick it, I just read it in context with the rest of the chapter. It's amazing how much sense passages in the Bible make when you read the whole things!! Try going back and reading the entire chapter and then slow down when you get to verse 15, okay???

The original Greek for "frustrate" is atheteo -- pronounced: ath-et-eh'-o KJV -- cast off, despise, disannul, frustrate, bring to nought, reject.

I do not "rejct, disannul, despise..." the grace of God. But by thinking I can gain righteiusness (be saved) by the law then Christ died in vain.

"To come from under the Mosaic Law(Christians) and live under Grace."

1) There's no such thing as Mosaic law in the sense that he made it up. God's 10C's were written by Him on tables of stone and placed inside the Ark under the mercy seat.
2) It is because you break the law that you need grace. They go hand in hand or hand in glove. The law shows you exactly where and why you need grace. Some don't want you to look at the law because it exposes their sins.

"To me, the main thought in this verse is simply that if there had been any other way to save sinners, then God would have done it. If a law or a religion could have been given that would save sinners, God would have given it. The only way that God could save us was to send His Son to die. He was willing to make the supreme sacrifice. Praise the Lord!"

Amen, Cynthia!

To come from under the Mosaic Law(Christians) and live under Grace. You cannot be good enough or righteous enough to go to heaven. We cannot save ourselves, we must put our total trust in Jesus and Jesus only, for our righteousness. If you continue to try to live by the 10 commandments or work your way to heaven, you are essentially lost! You have fallen from Grace. Be set free today. Let your heart be established by Grace.

What this text is doing is using "personification" talking to us as if grace were a person and imploring us not to underestimate/slight its role in our salvation, because we are surely not saved by keeping the law or Christ would have died in vain.

catherine: The Law had a two fold purpose:
1. To reveal sin
2. A schoolmaster

Jesus fulfilled the Law
1. He died for our sin
2. Christ IN US is NOW the Schoolmaster.
---kathr4453 on 3/14/07

The law is in no way contrary or at emnity with the promise(s). It is men who use the law for their bondage systems. They hold the truth in unrighteousness by imposing domination and control plans, always using the law for support. People are in fear of criticism and judgment, What law is that. Any family or community can become a neurotic slanderer. Is that okey in the law. Matt.23:"..for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men:.."
---jhonny on 3/14/07

The law was given to convince men of the necessity of a Savior. The law is by no means inconsistent with the promise. The law was designed for a schoolmaster, to bring men to Christ. Moses was only a mediator, and therefore the law that was given by him could not affect the promise.

Jas 2:19 "Thou believest that THERE IS ONE GOD; thou doest well:.." How men love their separtists(pharisee) who break in pieces what God has joined. God will do some breaking in pieces with those who love to follow parts and pieces.
Jer 51:23 "I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock;.."
Take it easy on the law. The law is not the problem. The law is HOLY. The burdens are PROFANE.
---jhonny on 3/13/07

Faith is in ADDITION to the law. Faith establishes the law. There is no faith that replaces the law.
Rom 3: 28 "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." People today, love their burdens and slave masters. Nevertheless.
Rm 3:31 "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." IN CHRIST. FREE from earning approval, that old way. 2Co 5:17 "..old things are passed away;.." Rom7:12.

kathr4453, I hear your heart too, the way you spoke God's Truth, was so refreshing. God Bless!

Mrs. Morgan: The more I read you the more I understand something. You connected with a vtal part of our Christian walk. You understood. That's the real issue. You cannot leave out obedience, and you know that. Stay true to your conscience. It takes so many years to be able to SAY what you KNOW in your heart. We connect our heart conviction with God's Word, and, that's what it is, that is what I'm trying to say. God Bless Mrs. Morgan..I hear your heart.

One's fruits are evidence of whats IN the HEART. He is interested in the death of Christ, so as to live unto God. He lives in the flesh, and yet lives by faith. To outward appearance he lives as other people do, yet he has a _higher and nobler principle that supports him, that of faith of Christ.
---catherine on 3/13/07

When Jesus came to fulfill the law, He did by writing that law in our heart. We don't carry those heavy stones around our neck. The FIRE that burned those commandments on stone is the same FIRE that is written with the finger of God in our hearts. Only "Christ In You" can keep those commandments...that's why verse 20 says no longer I but Christ in me. Only those crucified with Christ and risen up with Him have the power in them to obey ***from the HEART. Romans 6!!

God's Truth saves & only those who walk in Truth(walk that narrow road by the power of the Holy Spirit),are UNDER GRACE,will inherit eternal life, Those who add on or take away from Truth, frustrate God's Grace. Jesus didn't come to destroy the Law, but to fulfill it, gave His Commandments to live by,if one doesn't adhere to His Sayings, they are not any of His,He made this CLEAR,they will be judged by the Law. Those that are under God's Grace and not the Law, abide In Christ/His Word. God Bless!

It means you mustn't think you can save yourself by obeying the Law, no matter how perfectly you keep it. If you could save yourself that way, then it would mean Christ died for nothing. There are always people who keep wanting to have some part in saving themselves. It's the most tempting, the most subtle, (and the most damning) heresy that any Christian ever has to face.
---Billy on 3/6/07

You have to understand that Paul wrote this letter, and he was a Pharisee, so he knew his OT Law. (A Pharisee was a leader in the Jewish religion.) He was pening this letter to the Galatins because some Jewish-Christians were trying to say salvation by grace, but we must keep the Law. Paul is stating, "This is not true - if you must keep parts of the Law, then Christ died for no reason. The Jewish Christian were "frustrating" God's grace by bring in the Law.

How true, how true. If people could be saved by keeping the O.T. commandments alone, then Jesus would not have needed to come to earth at all.

Part 1 of 2

Look at it as a logical unit of scripture

If I build up again these very things that I destroyed, I simply succeed in making myself a transgressor. For through the law I died to the law that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. True, I am alive; but it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me.
---Phia4633 on 7/14/05

Par 2 of 2

The life that I am now living, although it is still in the flesh, is a life which is lived in faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to cancel out the grace of God; for if I can get right with God by means of the law, then Christ died quite unnecessarily.

If you read scripture in logical units and quit ripping it out of context it makes sense.
---Phia4633 on 7/14/05

Basically what that verse is saying is if we could be made right with God by obeying the law then there was no reason for Christ to die. Christ died for us because we were not perfect and could never obey the whole law and never sin. By his death he buried our sins and by his resurrection he raised us into a new life with Him by the Holy Spirit. It doesn't really mean Christ is still dead. You have to take the verse in context with the whole New Testament.

Look at it from another version (KJV is difficult to understand)"I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!" NIV..meaning, if we could gain righteousness just from following the law, Christ's death was in vain. Don't take His grace for granted.
