Struggling To Hear From God

Struggle hearing from God. Afraid that I will hear the wrong voice. I have done foolish things in the past listening to what I thought was God. What if God said to bake my husband a cake...Or do the laundry now...or go for a that God?

I shall never forget a teaching that I received at a prayer seminar, and this is what she spoke.
Pray in the spirit for 30 seconds, and then be still for 30 seconds, and during that listening time the Holy Spirit will speak.

Sorry last blog of mine was to go some where else.

I have never actually heard God's voice, he does speak to me through his word. And things come to my mind, and I know it is of God, but I can't say I have ever heard his actual voice. Those things you mentioned, baking a cake, now he can lay it upon your heart to make something for someone, but laundery? That is an everyday thing. Remember satan will not tell you or show you to do anything positive. So it is good to do and it will help others, it is of God.

Understanding if it is God or not, takes discernment also.
If God tells you to bake that cake, by all means do so, maybe your husband is having a rough day, and he would be surprised to see the cake, and in turn make his day better. But just remember that the answers to all your concerns and questions are in the scriptures. That walk He wants you to take...maybe you are to meet someone out there who needs to hear about God, and He will put that person in front of you.

are you saying you don't beleive in insuranse on your car and home? there are permition slips for field trips, do you not sign them? don't you trust for the best in those too?

God does talk to people It is more of are you listening. I can't tell what people are thinking by looking at them I have to talk with them. Jesus talked to the disiples, God talked to moses. He is the same yesterday today and for always. he hasn't stopped talking people have stopped listening. he didn't nudge the demons out he spoke, he didn't nudge the boy with the fish and loaves he spoke. he didn't nudge saul/paul on the road he spoke.

Psalm 103:13 (and other verses) indicate that God has a father's heart. The first 3 chapters of the book of Genesis show that God and Adam had a close relationship. They walked and talked together in the garden. This is what God wants with us, His children. He wants to be the center of our universe. The idea that He will talk to us only when we are experiencing trouble is foreign to me. That isn't a relationship. God wants us to enjoy Him and He wants to enjoy us!
---DoryLory on 7/18/05

He'll certainly help in difficult times but He also wants to be a part of the good times & to have fun with us.

When you are first learning to listen God's voice the safety is in always weighing everything you hear with the Word of God. God would never tell you anything that is against His Word.

Next, remember that God honors faith. Sometime it's a matter of stepping out in faith (especially at the beginning) & saying, "Lord, I'm just trusting that this is You."

Pt 3
The 3rd thing is ... remember God is never in a hurry. If you aren't sure if something is from God or not, ask for confirmation & then wait for it. He doesn't have a problem with confirming His Word (Romans 15:8).

The last thing is, if you blow it & fall on your face ... pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep on going. This walking with Lord and hearing His voice comes with relationship. The closer you get to Him and the longer you walk with Him, the easier (and more fun) it gets.

I asked this question myself only two weeks ago. I think the answer might be that God has faith in you and trusts you to do the right thing provided you begin with prayer. Christians do not always need to be told what to do. If we are in the spirit we can ACT in faith. Trust yourself as much as God trusts you...

I disagree with the whoever said God's not interested in trivial things. I thank Him for a close parking spot at the store! He is a magnificent God, why would he NOT care about the little things in my life? If he cares about each sparrow that falls, if he counts every hair on head, he cares about what I wear, what I cook, what I do! He should be our Guide in EVERYTHING we do, from the tiniest of decisions to the greatest, not just when we're in the valley, but even on top of the mountain!
---Misty on 7/18/05

I used to struggle with this question, and at times I still do. Somebody once told me that if I ever doubt if it's the Lord speaking to me then line it up with His Word. If it doesn't line up with the Bible then it is not of God.
---Misty on 7/18/05

I no longer take God for granted. I ask him what to cook as one time I didn't and friend had alegic atack, I no longer start my day with out asking God his plan, read his love lettr{bible}. I have learned I am nothing with out God! that He is in the simple things.Because at one time I was not even able to do the simplest of things. I can't leave HIM out of any part of my life. I don't have to, I want HIM in all I do. that all glory is given to God.

Dear Cathy: When in doubt, go to the Word. Our prayers must be line with the will of God. He knows our hearts when we ask Him. Anything we do for others in Jesus' love and in His way including for ourselves and our own bodies (which is the temple of the Holy Spirit) is blessed by our Lord. Even our daily chores. When we offer ourselves and our day to God and listen to Him with our hearts, he is faithful to answer and bless His time, not ours!

I have had God tell me to clean my tolet. and I did and was glad, as I had unexpected company, and while driving on a very dark night,He said stop! I didn't question, I stopped. I had deer run in front of my van, I asked the others in the car did you see them {we watch for deer to aviod them} they said NO! I told them GOD TOLD ME TO Stop. they thought it was awesome that God cared about me that much. I use to ask my spouse what to wear, friends give my advise. why shouldn't God do the same?
---Laure5469 on 7/18/05

have you ever met any one in deep depresion? haveing A God that meets you where you are at is not foolish! of course God God does make foolish of the wise. GOD does care that we obey even his simplest request.

People are right, God never tells us to do anything it's more of a gentle nudge.

If God was one of your best friends that you saw everyday she'd be the one who you always knew what she was thinking by looking at her face.

To be God is to be involved in ALL THINGS. I challenge anyone here to cut everything but Jesus out of your life for as long as possible, if you get that close you might understand what I mean and see JUST how personally interested God is in our lives.
---Pharisee on 7/18/05

God is interested in our well being, but I do not believe He will tell you to bake cakes, walk the dog and do what should come to you in caring and loving. We walk with God daily and He talks to us thru His Word. He also lays on our hearts things and when He does, it is strong, strong and we know it is from God.
---shira_5965 on 7/18/05

God will speak to your heart. God speaks to us always in all ways, not only when we seek Him, but when you feel, lonely, depressed or sad, I am speaking from my own experience. You know Gods' voice, listen with your heart. God is a Loving God, just listen, He will bring you quiet joy,and endless peace, just listen.
---cynthia on 7/18/05

These questions that are believed to be God speaking are in fact the type of questions we ask ourselves on a daily basis because, as intelligent beings God will not do for us what we can do for ourselves which also includes thinking for ourselves.

I am afraid that you trivialize God if you thnk He is going to tell you to do your house chores and I can't imagine what foolishness you did thinking that He was leading you!
I suggest you pray to God to help you get a more accurate picture of who He really is.
---Pierr7958 on 7/18/05

After my husband left I went into a deep depression. I was no longer able to function. the only voice that I was able to hear was Gods. I listened when He said "you need to get up to day" "brush your teeth" "your kids are coming home soon, get food ready" I asked God what to wear, and God would tell me. I think that if your spouse has a bad day, God may tell you to bake a cake. and maybe God is looking for simple obedance, if you walk maybe you will minister on a walk.

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." John 10:27

God speaks to us all day, the problem with most of us is we aren't listening.

The thing Jesus taught the most was "fear not."
Please don't let your soul be troubled, God is not only the redeemer of our mistakes he is the joy we recieve for the works we do in his name.

God is bigger than your mistakes...NO what you know is smiled upon by him pray to him and your joy will be sure.
---Pharisee on 7/17/05

There's good news.

And whatever you may do, work from the soul as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance. For you serve the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24

A reward for mundane chores and seemingly endless piles of laundry.

The challenge is walking closely enough with God to keep this in mind.
Be a disciple, the journey never ends for the student of our Lord's teachings.

If you are truly a christian and you believe in the Lord, have faith in Him and have put all your trust in Him ... then you'll know when HE is speaking to you. BUT, beware, for in these final days, there are many who claim to be of God, but are servants of Satan instead. Always turn to God for guidance. He will never fail you.
