What Church Do You Attend

I don't understand why people here are so reluctant to tell what denomination they are or what church they go to..answers like "We are all the church" seem to be covering something. Are you ashamed of the church you attend?

I go to a Church of Christ in my town.

I am an Old Line Primitive Baptist. If you ever have a chance you should visit one of our churches. If they have musical instruments they are not "Old Line", we call them "Progressive". There are also a few that call themselves Primitive Baptist, but preach "absolute predestination - of events", they are not "Old Line" either.

Lord bless each of you.

StevenRem, lord bless you brother. Keep up the good work my friend.

Landmark Baptist Soveriegn Grace Church
We trace our linage of historical churches back too John the Baptist. God has always kept for Himself a witness.

"from faith to faith"
Rm1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

On 9/27/07, StevenG said "my church is the vine." Jesus said (John 15:5)
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing.

If your church is Jesus, I hope you are doing what He says.
---Geoff on 10/7/07

I don't believe that people who say "We are all the church" are really covering anything. I think people are tired of the division of denominations in the Christian church. Non-denominational churches welcome everyone. Isn't that how church is suppose to be?
---Richard_Soto on 10/7/07

In the beginning of Christianity, the Church was simply a group of people meeting each other whether on the mountain, on the street or in the home. The names given to the churches were simply the locations of the home churches.

Churches today are nothing but oraganization having building (connected to the government by just being a 503(c) corporation), watered down sermons, entertainment, clubs and sports for the self-centered Christian.
---Steveng on 9/27/07

I don't belong to an organized church. My church are the home churches I've started in Detroit MI, Norcross GA, Portland OR and Los Angeles CA. My church is the vine I've grown over the past twenty years. Each group is small. The people know each other, carry one anothers burdon, encourage each other and all the other things the Bibles says we should do togerther. Read: 1Corinthians14:26, Acts16:40. Read up on home churches on the interent. Start your home church, you'll be glad you did - and so will God.
---Steveng on 9/27/07

AG: can I ask you what a 'four square church' is? There used to be a church by our house when I was growing up and it was round. My dad used to tell me it was round so the devil could never corner you! lol.

I attend Pentecostal Holiness now but came from Assembl Of God.
---denna7667 on 9/27/07

I was born and raised Pentecostal, not Apostolic. Yes, there is a difference. Apostolics are something of a cult. But listen, this argument about Oneness and Trinity.....There is NO argument! Seriously Pentecostals believe that the ONE God has three personalities. Trinity beleivers beleive that these three make up one body. Its the same. Where is the argument? We are all on the same side. There are many scriptures to prove BOTH points, but does that matter?
---Joe_Hardy on 9/27/07

I'm not ashamed of my church, but understand reluctance to tell much about your personal life. It's an opening for squadrons of criticism. Many of us are beaten to a pulp by everyday life. We come here for Christian conversation, friendship, and an occasional laugh. Being a witness for Christ, Great Commission:

The last recorded personal instruction given by Jesus to His disciples. It's a special calling to all His followers to take specific action while on this earth.
---R.A. on 3/8/07

Jesus spoke "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

I live in the Bible Belt and most people I know say what church they belong to. Many who don't, like workers, I think are embarrassed by the question and say things like God is always with me, I have been going to go but, work the weekends, etc. They don't go to church. And don't really want to. But want to well thought of anyway.

At Great White Throne of Judgment, all denominational tags clipped off. Do you know Jesus personally or volumes of knowledge about Him? There will not be theologian standing by your side interpreting scripture, - completely alone - giving an account for your life. You won't be able to look around for most helpful or witnesses to justify your beliefs, your name will be written in the Book of Life, or you will be cast into the lake of fire. Do you have relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Saviour?
---R.A. on 9/13/06

they are not reluctant. noone asked dear. you have to say it at the appropriate time.
anyhow, we are the church.
---jana on 9/13/06

Perhaps people here are shy. I gladly profess that my denomination is Jesus Christ, and the church that I go to is Apostolic.
---Eloy on 9/6/06

I don't mind explaining my beliefs to anyone. But when I identify myself with any group, people immediately make a whole set of assumptions...some based on "doctrines", some on personal experience. Past personal experience is a most UNRELIABLE measure. And I've almost never agreed 100% with my churches doctrine. But I understand why people ask.
Sometimes what people say (esp. when they get "preachy") is utterly confusing. I'd like to just "pigeon hole" them and move on.

I don't think that it is necessary to say because it doesn't matter. It's God. I just say...I'm Christian. I'm saved. Nothing else is of importance.
---Aj on 9/5/06

Anne5758 I don't believe that anyone on ChristiaNet is ashamed of their church. They would not continue to go there if they were. Many people attend non-denominational churches so they cannot say more than that, others attend a denominational one but perhaps do not agree with quite all its teachings and so do not become members in an official way. These people would not refer to themselves as a methodist, baptist etc. This is more common that you might realise. God loves us anyway.
---emg on 1/16/06

I was brought up in my early childhood in a methodist church and now I belong to a Baptist. denomination is not what gets you to Heaven. It is being born again and I am not ashamed of my church.
---elain on 1/15/06

WE meet in my home every other Friday night, not because we think it is the true Sabbath or anything but just because most people don't work on Saturday and it seems feasible. We have no name. Just a gathering of the body of Christ. We try and let the Holy Spirit be our leader so that He can accomplish what He wants to in our midst.
---patti on 9/29/05

I don't know if the original writer is still checking replies, but "the church" is the body of believers. Perhaps that's why people do not bring up a denomination. The denomination is not the church you belong to. The building where you go is not the church you go to. I belong to the Evangelical Covenant denomination because I like the way things are organized, but the church I belong to is Christ's.

If I could find a perfect church, it wouldn't be perfect after I joined. The Church isn't a hotel for saints, it's a hospital for sinners. We're all in need of care and encouragement. Go in search of a body of believers, help them and you too will grow with the effort. God bless you as you go and help others know the Lord and support His people. There are many good, Bible teaching churches. Don't rob yourselves of the bless GOD has for you in HIS CHURCH.
---Eloia_N_KS on 8/8/05

Brother Guy, I read what you put down and I am also sorry you are not going to church anymore. I had a hard time finding a good church too. I thought all Baptist churches were the same, but i was wrong. I use to go to Pentacostal church where I lived before and they were reformed, and when I moved I thought all Baptist were reformed and followed the same faiths but they don't. I believe we all need to have a place to worship God and be close to other brothers and sisters, Give it one more try.

It IS very sad Guy. But what better place for sinners than in church? Maybe you were placed there to help. No matter where you go,a ballgame, church, anywhere there is a group and you will find a % of flakes.

Talk to friends, find a church where you can be fed and renew your bond with the Lord. The longer you stay away from a REAL body of believers, the more slack you will get about your commitment to the Lord. We need to worship together and build each up in the Lord. God bless you.
---NVBarbara on 8/7/05

As Evangelists, we find ourselves in various pentecostal denominations and in prison a lot. If we are traveling and want to stop for church, we attend Assembly of God or Church of God (Cleveland, TN) or any Spirit-filled church that the Lord directs us to. One of our favorite churches to visit when we are home is a black church where they do not keep quiet during their worship. Praise the Lord! We can show some emotion!
---Sally on 8/5/05

I don't go to church any more. My wife and I have had it with all the hipocracy. We found out some pretty bad stuff about the leadership in a few churches. We get treated better in the world, sad to say. Very sad.

Dear Ann: I began my spiritual journey in the Church of the Nazarene and Methodist Church in Ohio, attended the Presbyterian Church in Indiana and New Jersey, then Southern Baptist Church in Florida and am now for 9yrs in a home fellowship led by an on-fire, born-again Russian missionary where we worship, disciple people, and head out to the foreign mission field in Ukraine, Western Russia and Siberia whenever possible.

I met the Lord Jesus as my PERSONAL Savior in a Southern Baptist Church. Over the years of moving around we've attended several denominations but always come back to the Southern Baptist when possible because we've observed they adhere most closely to God's Word in every aspect. We've met some faithful and wonderful God honoring people in many of the other evangelical churches also.

My background is I visited with the Menonnite church, members with the baptist church, non-denom., & God spoke to my husband who recently finished his Ministry school ,so that is why God called on us with some friends to expand their homechurch to other outlets.

I attend a Southern Baptist church in Texarkana, Texas. I don't think anybody is ashamed of their church, but I think sometimes we fear that sectarianism will make our witnessing less effective. (As it certainly would, if we focused on the various things our churches disagree about instead of on the Word.)

Ann: I did a missionary trip to Europe to distribute Bibles to Muslims traveling through the ports on the Mediterranean. There were people from all over the world participating, and from different missions agencies. It was so neat to work alongside believers from Africa, South America, the Middle East, and Europe. We were able to put aside our political and language barriers and share God's Word with lost people. That is the idea of the Church being one body.
