to catherine - first of all, the bible says that self is a sin or 'deny yourself' so how can god counsel you. that there is a person asking for fish & he is given a snake
to madison - most of the lies come from christians who say that the reason for the dysfunction is bec. of sin. then they would make you work, slap you with guilt, fear & shame.

As much as we want to help people some are down on themselves until it is just about impossible. You have to be careful what you say to them. Some just don't want to hear what you may have to say. We don't always know what to say. Unless Jesus is in their life I just don't know. We are not called to be counselors anyways. I am passing the buck. Go to God. Man He can counsel you.

Study who you are in Christ. Neil Anderson discusses it in "Victory Over the Darkness" and "The Bondage Breaker."
Low self-esteem is believing lies of the devil about who we are and learning scripture about who you are to God can give you ammo in the spiritual battle.

Find an older sister in the Lord who can pray with you about this. Or a Pastor. Someone who can stay (share life) with you and help walk you through. You spend a lot of time in prayer before God and learn how to accept God's Love for you. You see that the truth is, God love you just the way you are. Don't be hard on yourself. Give credit where credit is due. Learn to like yourself the way you are. See Jesus in you. He understands you very well.

In our lives we question our self-esteem, who am i? where do i belong? God has a big heart to hear you day or night pray. leave burdens in gods hands that stand in the way to getting self esteem, God loves you much pray dear. prayer helps in everything. be good to you 1st thats where it starts.

Helped? Why? Low self esteem is just what the Christian is striving for. " ... but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." - Phi 2:3 Moses had low self-esteem, but God had him stand before Pharaoh. Jesus was "despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not." - Isa 53:3. Paul fought a continual battle against self-esteem. Shouldn't we?

What has helped me the most is changing how I think about myself by replacing old negative thought patterns with what God says and thinks about me. I turned the TV off, stopped reading certain magazines, and listening to certain music-the goal was to stop trying to make myself into what the media said I should look like and obtain. Third, I went back to school. Finally, I joined a singles group at my church.

Just realize that God created you...God wanted you enough that he made you for himself. You are special to Him and that is what really matters. God created you to be just as you are. None of us is perfect but God loves us anyway.

One way would be to affirm that person whenever he/she does something well or if he/she looks nice. Bathe them in genuine compliments. Also point out how precious he/she is in His sight, and that he/she can do all things through JCh.

God only looks at the inward person, which is their hearts. Man looks at the outward person, which is beauty. God created you to be special to him. Always think about God, read your Bible, get closer to your creator. Self esteem takes work by taking small steps of faith at a time. God can teach you to love yourself. It helped me to always see where I could make others feel special and in return I started to feel special about how God created me. I bet you also have a beautiful soul.

4 YOU have formed my inward parts:
You have covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise YOU, 4 I am fearfully & wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
& that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from YOU.
When I was made in secret,
& skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
YOUR eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
& in YOUR book they all were written,
The days fashioned 4 me.
When as yet there were none of them.
