Satan did. If you read the book of Job,you will see that God gave Satan the power to do what he wanted to all that Job had, but not to lay a hand on Job(Ch.1 v.12). Satan told God that Job would curse Him if he lost everything, but God knew better, because God knew Job was a good & upright man who feared God & avoided evil(Ch.1 v. 1)

God allowed satan to ... satan could toss anything at Job but not kill him. This was done to show satan what a truly Godly man Job was. That nothing satan could do would turn Job from his God.

Linda, I cannot imagine what life must have been like to Job's wife at this time. The loss of her children would have been the worst part of it because losing a child must be the worst thing that can happen to a mother but she would have been affected by most of the other losses also. Women don't feature much in the Old Testament so we can only guess what life must have been like for many of them.

Yes,the topic is the Book of Job in the Holy Bible. He was blessed "double for his trouble"at the end of his test.Does anyone(besides me)ever feel compassion for Job's wife?..yes,she lost faith, said the wrong thing, and not a good example for us today..but,she lost her 10 children & her wealth, too,& her husband was deathly ill...enough to make anyone fall..if you're not leaning on the faithfullness of God.Blessings,linda3957

Melissa, I think Shaz is new to the site and maybe new to the Christian faith. She might be thinking that the "Job" that the poster is talking about refers to the "job" that we are/aren't having. Shaz, am I right?

Shaz, what on earth does your reply have to do with the question?

Taking away Job's [protection was a way that God tested Job to see if he would still be faithfull even in the hard times. So it is today when we go through trials and temptations. They can be tests of our faith as well. Will we stand and hold our faith in hard times or blame God and turn away. God wants us to ask for help and he blesses the faithful

It's near the beginning of the book, Satan speaking to God said Job was only faithful to God because God blessed and protect him. To prove that Job was faithful regardless, God removed his protection and allowed Satan to bring harm on Job but only under the parameters set by God. Ex. initially Satan could harm physically Job's family but not Job himself.

why does someone always need to be to blame whenever something does not go the way they want it to. Perhaps a person looses thier job because they did not do it well enough? why do we always look for a scape goat? Life happens deal with it and get on with it.
If you are always looking for a scape goat instead of new challenges and to get on with your life than blame yourself.

If you read the story carefully, you'll see that satan "caused" Job's suffering, but, God allowed him to do what was done to Job. Satan can do nothing to one of God's own, except that it be permitted by God.

Job 1:9-12 \ 2:3-7 God allowed Satan to cause suffering to Job. God said that Job was a perfect and upright man, one that feared God, and eschewed evel. Satan said that was because God made a hedge about Job and his house. God had blessed his work.
Job did not curse God when his servants, animanls, even his sons and daughters were killed. 1:20,21
Satan smote Job with boils. Job did not curse God, even though his wife told him to.
God tests people. Satan tempts people.
---Ulrika on 9/11/05

Satan did.

God allowed Job to be tested so that his glory could be revealed through Job(the Glory of his love and fellowship with man is revealed when we love him in return and believe when yet all is dark) and Satan's lies about Job could be crammed back into his mouth.
---Pharisee on 9/11/05

Satan challenged God & God knew Job was a faithful servant, God let Satan test Job,but he couldnot kill him. In the end Job still served God & Satan moved on.So Satan cause all the grief & misery.
