If you are a born again christian, the devil or demons cannot possess you. The Holy Spirit and demons cannot inhabit the same body.

I believe depending on the situation that is what you do. The deliverance ministry is very misunderstood and recieved because of religious teachings. Yet Satan continues to deceive many into believing that they don't need it. Before that quesion is answered we need to know the situation inorder to bind or cast out demons.

What do you think Jesus meant when he said "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force" (Matt 11:12). Your idea is that of a fulfilled Christian, but you are forgetting the human-factor, the flesh, as well as a host of other factors. Everything requires balance, nothing is just simple, not even salvation!
---Okebaram on 5/18/06

As a Christian, subjecting yourself to a Satanic prophet, for instance, or dabbling in the occult, even if for ignorant fun, are things that can open you up to demons. The fulfilled Christian should not be demon-possessed or even oppressed, but there are Christian who are demon-possessed, demon-oppressed, suffering from depression, as well as Christians who STILL CARRY old curses after saying the sinner's prayer because they haven't destroyed the devil's right to oppress them. "one of those people who believe the "once saved, always saved" doctrine?" Not in the least.
"not every born-again Christian is Spirit-filled." There is a difference between being "Spirit filled" and Spirit indwelt. Every christian is Spirit indwelt. Romans 8:9, "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."
---Bruce5656 on 5/17/06

Your replies are birthed in ignorance concerning this issue. Are you one of those people who believe the "once saved, always saved" doctrine? By the way, not every born-again Christian is Spirit-filled.
---Okebaram on 5/17/06

Okebaram ,
Your illustration predates the cross. Predates the time when the Holy Spirit of God indwells the believer. The Jew did not have this priviledge. When the Holy Spirit moves in, Satan moves out for "Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world!" I John 4:4 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Patti/mod. Here is the scripture of Mary Magdaline.
Mark 16:9
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Some who were possessed before they became born-again still retain the demons they had: not because they are sinful, but because they don't realize that such demons have to be forcefully cast out by the authority in Jesus' name. The bible says "my people perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). Then there are other Christians who had unknowingly subjected themselves to a false prophet at one time, or had dabbled in occultic stuff, knowingly or unknowingly, and as a result got possessed.

In Luke 13, Jesus healed a woman whom he described as "a daugther of Abraham". This woman had the right to be free because she was a heir of Abraham just like Christians today, spiritual children of Abraham, have the right to be free from demonic bondage; yet she was bound becasue of her ignorancejust like some Christians are possessed with demons.
---Okebaram on 5/15/06

not possessed, but 'thorny' :>)
see Paul's thorn in Scripture.
no other resource to explain it away -
he says it is a demon, a messenger from satan,
afflicting him, and, get this, Yhwh doesn't
let Paul kick it out!(usually a trusting child can throw one out easily-demons are scared of real jewish believers)

There are requests within this discussion for someone to indicate scriptural reference(s) that a Christian can be possessed by a demon. Yet, not one scripture has been listed/found! I believe that if it is not scipture it is not truth!

Moderator - A Christian could never be possessed by a demon because the Holy Spirit lives inside a Christian.
---Tia on 11/29/05

We war not against flesh and blood but spiritual wickednes...demons. Christians can be oppressed by demons. Jesus healed many and they were oppressed by demons or possessed by demons. They only have the power we allow them...the ultimate power is in Christ to run them out.
---wes on 11/4/05

I have sent you a long email to explain what I beleve about Satan's influence.
---Bruce5656 on 11/4/05

You say that Christians can be possessed and "most of your replies were greatly mistaken on this issue"
There is one standard by which we can make such catagorical statements. That of course is scripture. Where is your scriptural proof that a Christian can be posessed?
---Bruce5656 on 11/4/05

Depends ... I have to bind demons at work all the time, but at home I bound and cast them out. It was explained to me that in order to cast them out, everyone present must be in agreement. My fiance's mom's house is full of demons, everytime I enter I bind in the name of Jesus, but because they don't understand demons, I can't cast them out.

By the way, there are many christians who are possessed with demons, there are christians who are oppressed, and even those possessed. I needed to correct that since most of your replies were greatly mistaken on this issue.
---Okebaram on 11/1/05

Both.By the name of Jesus.Binding them means taking away their ability to hold/do something. In the bible, one time when Jesus told his disciples he was about to die, the devil induced uncomfortable reactions in Peter, even though Peter really wasn't possessed.Peter began rebuking Jesus.Jesus said "Satan, I bind you".The devil's influence over Peter was broken. Many times, after a demon is bound it is driven out of that place, be it a person, your family, your house, a situation.

Bruce - Your response here to John, and in other Blogs, gives me the impression that you don't believe Satan has any influence over a Christian life. Christian people cannot be possessed by the enemy but the Bible is very clear that we do have an enemy to contend with.

I want to do the things I know are right, but I do the things that are wicked. Why by the mistake/greed of Adam and Eve I am as a human tempted as they were by satain and his demons every day. Christian or Not. Can we drive them out? Sure in the name of Jesus will they come to tempt again? Sure, hold fast in the Lord.
---eric on 10/7/05

Unclean spirits are cast out, by commanding them to leave in the name of the Lord.
---Eloy on 10/7/05

Casted out in Jesus name. You can't bind a demon. Binding means to hold or restrain. Mk 5:2-20. Men tried to bind a man whom had demons in him, they couldn't. Just because one gets saved that doesn't mean that an evil spirit can't enter in. If they chose to leave God, God leaves then evil comes in. But God and Satan can't live in the same house.
---Rebecca_D on 10/7/05

'What you bind on earth is bound in heaven.' Jesus was asked by some disciples why they could not cast out the demons and Jesus replied, 'These do not come out but by fasting and prayer.' Jesus drove out some demons into the swine and they drowned themselves. Either one would be ok, I guess.

Didn't Mary Magdalene have 12 demons that were cast out of her, and wasn't she a believer? I couldn't find it in my concordance, but I believe it's in the Bible.

Moderator - Please show the scripture. Thanks.

The example of Peter (assuming that Jesus meant that he was somehow under control of the devil) does not mean anything to the Christian. Peter was not a Christian. There were no, Spirit indwelt, born again Christians untill Jesus came to them in the upper room and gave them His Spirit. John 14:17, 20:22.
---Bruce5656 on 10/6/05

I have never heard of a Christian becoming demon possessed. It is, however, possible, to become oppressed. For example, let's say you go to a fortune teller and have your fortune read. This opens the door for the enemy to enter into. The enemy tries to force himself into your life, and the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He waits for an invite. My advice is to live a clean, Christian life the best you can with the help of the Holy Spirit. God bless.

If possess means "to own" then I can't be possessed but if possess means "to have an attatchement to" then I need to have that taken care of. When Jesus told Satan to get behind him he was talking to Peter. I have personally been thanked many times by Christians for helping them in this area.We are told to cast them out in Jesus name.

We don't do either. God must do that. Leave demons alone. They are smarter and more powerful than any man. James 5:7 says, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." In the context, the way to do that is to "draw near to" and "humble yourself" before God.
---Walter on 10/6/05

God doesn't dwell in a demon possessed person , demons can't dwell where the Holy Ghost abides. The OT Temple was God's dwelling, everything had to be anointed and holy before His Spirit would dwell in the Holy of Holies.OT is teacher which shows God is Holy and will share nothing with what is evil and profane.Christians full of God's Spirit can be oppressed by outside demons but they can't come into the person. You;command demons out, send to realm- of-darkness,bind them there ,don't return, in Jesus Name.
---Darlene_1 on 10/6/05

While popular in some circles, your position that a Christian may be possessed is indefensible with scripture.
---Bruce5656 on 10/6/05

You or anyone, Christian or otherwise can be possessed by any spirit they allow. Satan is trying and if you allow him to posses or direct you, he will. Most Christians 'bind' Satan and his demons, but to bind is to "restrain or tie in place". We can't 'bind' a devil and then 'cast him out'. If, however, you 'loose' him, he is then free to leave when you command it in the name of Jesus.

Moderator - Please show the scriptures that say a Christian can be possessed. Thanks.
