Which Religion Is Right

Maybe someone can help me. I don't understand "Faith". How do Christians believe what is not proven.? Anything in the Bible could have been made up 2,000 years ago by anyone. There are many religions each with its own idea of God. As a reasonable person, How am I to know who is right?

Atheist you also hold 'disparate ideas.'

While professing to hold the scientific method in high esteem (as I do) you also have faith in 'inferences', in things which cannot be proved either true or false. One is about scientific fact while the other is belief, often contradicted by fact.

I am involved in car-racing. Using the scientific method of testing and retesting we have made our car much faster. New wheels and stickier rubber, high performance brakes, modified suspension-belief does not come into it. Pure science, purely physical.

My faith in Jesus our Creator and Redeemer does not conflict with this in any way. In fact my living faith in Him makes it all the better. No conflict here at all.
---Warwick on 10/30/09

Warwick and Jerry,

You have been claiming that science 'proves' or disproves this or that. Einstein didn't claim that science can 'prove'anything.

Fine. As you say, Warwick, all is belief. Then it would logically follow that all beliefs are equally valid,---and to be fair, nothing should be taught as a 'fact'. Along with your so called 'naturalist evolutionism', we'll need to teach biologism, physicsism, biblism, koranism, crystal ballism, LastThursdayism, and of couse Ismism---the belief in and categorization methodologies of isms.

Math can remain unchanged:"As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain, and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality."---Einstein again
---atheist on 10/30/09

Atheist despite scientists philosophical unease about 'proof', there are untold things proven beyond doubt, by the scientific method. Long-ages, abiogenesis, evolution of kinds from the proposed original 'simple' life form etc are not among them.

The amazing technology we use every day, such as that provided via satellites, is the product of patient research, testing and retesting. A close friend is a scientist involved in the design of, and placing of satellites in orbit. At the same time he is convinced God created in 6-days. Why should there be any conflict for him?

While deriding others faith in the supernatural you hold passionately to unproveable, not seen, naturalistic origins. Hypocrisy?

"If you thought that science was certain well, that is just an error on your part."-Richard Feynman
"It is the aim of science to establish general rules which determine the reciprocal connection of objects and events in time and space. For these rules, or laws of nature, absolutely general validity is required not proven."-Albert Einstein

Maybe that's what happened to you. You claim to believe science and not religion, but when the science proves your "beliefs" to be wrong, you hold on to them anyway, insisting "we just don't know the answer yet." LOL! You insist that reality is exclusively naturalistic, that no such thing as the supernatural exists. Yet the testimonies of Billions of people as well as scientific studies say you are wrong.

While not everything in the Bible has cooberating source many things do. The countries mentioned in the Bible have been proven to exist by Archeology. Names, many places, and events have been proven. There is still room for doubt. But the Bible has given us an accurate History in many cases.

Other events in the Bible cannot be proven. But the way the events are portrayed are true to the time and culture.

Ahhh, But, the true Christian, has the true living God living in them. How can one who has this, lose one's faith. Impossible. We do not need proof. God said in the beginning, "God created the heavens and the earth. He declared it. When God chooses you, you believe God and His word, the Bible.

Acts 20:24 "But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, in order that I may finish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need. If we are saved by grace and God sits on a throne of grace, we need to study Paul's teachings on the gospel of grace to guide us in the right direction. The gospel of grace is Christ centered and He Himself laid the foundation when He shed His blood on Calvery.

Relgion is a foremat, Salvation is the Main focus. God's Church was born on the day of Pentecost according to Mark 16 v 16, Acts 2 v's 37-41 which Fulfills Matt. 28 v's 19-20, Gal. 1 v's 8-9. Strait is the gate & narrow is the way & be but few to find it.
The so called once saved always saved, repeat aft me, no works salvation, sinners prayer with No scriptural basis, Is Man-made teachings & was derived from here, 2nd. Cor. 11 v's 14-15. Starting with the man constantine devising r-catholocism the first trin-church with her off-spring churches presby, luth, naz, bapt, episco, etc. For r-catholocism is here Rev. 17 v's 4-6. They are such good people, but so spiritually blind.

Andy, God produced His Bible via men whom He inspired to write-2 Tim. 3:16-Scripture is 'God-breathed.'

Prayerfully 'feed' on Scripture and you will discover its amazing integrity. Genesis to Revelation the same themes are throughout it. It told people truths before man discovered them e.g. air has weight, the earth an orb, hanging in space upon nothing, oceans have 'paths.' Matthew Maurey (1806-1873) read Psalm 8:8 noting it said the seas have 'paths.' He spent decades discovering these 'paths'. This revolutionized ocean travel as ships could now follow these currents and 'sail' even without wind.

By faith we understand we are sinners, that Jesus paid the price for our sin. Not blind faith, but truth the true seeker will find.

The main difference between Catholics and Protestants: Catholics believe to put your faith in the Church and the Pope. The Church is made of mortal men and women and the pope
is a man. Protestants believe that we should put our faith in the Bible (written by
mortal men) What I don't understand is that Protestants and Catholics claim to
agree not to put your trust in mortal men.

Larry: 'The questioner should take comfort in God's answer to Isiah, "come let us REASON together."'

Larry:'The God of Israel is truth whether we believe it or not, end of discussion.'

In one sentence you point to the Bible and 'god' speaking of reason. In another you state unequivocally that truth is the 'God of Isreal'.

Doesn't holding these disparate ideas in you head at the same time make you go "crackers?"
---atheist on 7/8/09

Atheist, Rhonda's belief upon belief or your non-belief is not the issue. The God of Israel is truth whether we believe it or not, end of discussion.

Nothing man can do, say or believe will make God any less than he is.
Those who seek him will find him, but most will reject him as stated in scripture.

The misery of a life without the imputed purpose of God is a combative futile journey. Knowing that if there was no God and we were just a result of evolving organisms nothing would matter, inlcuding efforts to discourage creatures from acknowledging the creator.
---larry on 7/7/09

Well said John II, the sad life of the atheist knowing they are no more important than a rock or leaf having essentially, according to their own errancy, convinced they are here by accident. For the evolution of organisms is incapable of imputing purpose or love and I can't imagine the futility of existing without any purpose and no right or wrong. Like a fish you simply survive until you are eaten by a bigger fish.

Christians of course don't have to prove anything, as Christ is truth and God stands on his own word. Proof would suggest accountability and the creator is NEVER accountable to the creature.

The questioner should take comfort in God's answer to Isiah, "come let us REASON together."
---larry on 7/7/09

iii). It's true that this generation chooses their religion like their raiment, the more fashionable the better, seeking approval from men rather than approval from God. Really it's just allowing differing people's differing sins to co-exist, an excuse to hold onto their sin with the outward appearance of being religious or at least conscientious, and this to try and fool God! There's the complete cop out of atheism or secularism, a person denies God in a pathetic hope to avoid judgement, to dupe God - and themselves. Pride gets the better of man when he believes it's all about his efforts. Yet the eyes know that the Earth is full of God's glory and the heart inherently knows right from wrong (for the most part) leaving him without excuse.
---John_II on 7/7/09

iv). So which faith? Let's try the reverse angle: all the denominations from the Great Schism until now should be telling you who Satan attacks, he keeps on splitting Christians! Observe the rise in false prophets and false teachers, true Christians are rather stingy so what makes false ones hand over their cash like crackers? Secondly, other religions are of works to a dumb god who you will have to count on and hope will be there when you die, such an awful risk! Which may have you worshipping on the high places or fanatically waving a placard of a premier you idolise at a stadium. Through faith in God you have a Way to Him through an intimate and engaging relationship with His Son, you will know Him and He you before you die.

i). It has been about proclamation over proof since Christ was with us, and before then for His awesome reputation [Name] to precede Him. Giving us the time in this world, even past and future, to come to our senses and get it right for the time it is called Today (though we shouldn't delay) - and so enter His kingdom. God could soak up the great Euphrates with the soles of His feet to have you believe but then what remains to build an intimate relationship? Surely He would be our God and we would be His grunts? In faith we can venture a little further than we'd otherwise dare to do in His awesome presence which would almost certainly destroy us, we wouldn't cope. For now we have His Name and His Word [Jesus] and even that is too much for some.
---John_II on 7/7/09

ii). God loves His faith like His grace, mercy and forgiveness, without it no-one can be saved. Man cannot live in peace without faith in God because man will inevitably stand on someone's neck with faith in himself. As the Holy Spirit departs, man's religion is the graceless, merciless and unforgiving legalism where threats and fears keep us muted when Christ wants us to talk having already loosed these bindings by His very grace, mercy and forgiveness. God has spoken His most excellent way which man has been trying to best without success, which should tell you something. As more is brought to proof then faith must diminish and so the blessings, and without faith there is no special relationship with Christ. Will that then be the end time?
---John_II on 7/7/09

The only truly correct belief is that no two people actually see the world, think and believe the same thing.

The 'truth' as believed by those who have chosen to believe that their 'holy book' is the word of 'god', and the 'god' they believe in is the 'one true god' can be wrapped with the claim of 'truth'---but it is still just belief.

You still have nothing more than belief wrapped within layers and layers of belief.

The sun is the sun to all who use the word to mean the same thing. But to a person lost without water in Death Valley, that same sun is not the beautiful one shining on the beach in Santa Monica. But to a blind person it may be warmth or heat, but without light.

The only truly correct belief is that no two people actually see the world, think and believe the same thing.

EXCEPT beliefs and opinions are NOT truth ...that is evident in the most obvious ...if the sun is shinning and everyone remarks on the beautiful bright sun and one person "stands alone" insisting it is raining then this is outside of the truth ...clearly apart from truth one individual remains divided of their own accord

there is only ONE truth in all moral agency allows people to subjectively determine what is truth for them via their beliefs and opinions but these are what they cling to again NOT truth

Real Christians find out He is real because He will reveal Himself to those who believe in Him and submit to Him. Those who confess their sins to Him & repent from the heart & are baptized will hear from Him. He leads us through our spirit, for we must worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4:23. Also, the Holy Spirit of God leads us. Personally, I strongly believed in God when I was a very young child & I had prayers answered. He's done many miracles for me & my family for many years. Praise be to God. Just as He has done many miracles for many other people in the world. If you are committed to Jesus Christ, He will reveal Himself to you.

The answer to your doubt this prophecy as stated in the Bible. In the Bible can one find prophecies which came true many prophecies were made over 700 years before their fulfillment. To point to the one prophecy which is astounding I pointed to the nation of Israel. In checking in the Bible you will see many places where God said he would bring Israel back into existence. The one I like best is(Shall a nation be borned (made) in a day?) Well he know for certain that modern Israel was created in a day. I ask you? Does that fact not impress you? Yes your answer is prophecy look at prophecy in the Bible.

Your question suggest that you do not believe or have faith in anything or anyone without proof. If you think about a single day in your life, you would know that you have faith in a whole host of things and whole host of people.

Moreover, faith in God is NOT blind and in some cases, it is a thoughtful and rational decision to believe. Part of the problem, of course, is your definition of Faith.

Here is a functional definition: FAITH IS THE COMPLETE DEPENDENCE ON GOD'S ABILITY AND INTEGRITY. And that decision can be made, rationally.

To believe, for example, that the universe just popped into existence out of nothing is, in my view, an irrational kind of faith. That kind of faith is based on nothing, at all.

The god, faith, religion, and denomination that you believe in is the 'correct' one.

All others are 'incorrect'.

The irony is that if you gather all around you that you believe that believe as you do, and then ask enough questions of them all about their beliefs, you'll find yourself standing alone.

The only truly correct belief is that no two people actually see the world, think and believe the same thing.

We are then, each and everyone alone, except those of us who have an imaginary friend to talk to...

Adam, I believe that Shawn T, and Bob's answer are correct. Many will tell you the denominations are from Satan, but not all of them are. We are called to assemble together just as many of the Apostles did. Many denomitions are corrupted, but the Spirit gives us discernment and we should be able to tell which one's teach the gospel message.
The assembly of believers is commanded of us. To teach, help, edify one another not only with God's Word but also to make disciples of all who have come to Christ. They cannot be left out there on their own. Someone needs to teach them. God will make a way for all who are baby Christians to learn about Him.

Religion is not from God it is from man is mans reasoning about God which is VERY DIFFERENT from Gods Word

seek and you shall find, knock and it is opened ...Christ declared this message 2000 years ago for TODAY seek God in truth and spirit is to believe in faith every word of God ...when you read Gods Word asking in faith for TRUTH and understanding you will see the web of lies religion of men has weaved about God

if you are reasonable then you are open to Word of God ...closed minds cling tightly to their denomination and adoring their ministers

Faith is something YOU feel and is personal to you alone. We can all have faith but it will always be different for every person just as every person is different from another.
Have faith in one true God, let Him into your heart and guide you in your life. That is all you need. The rest is words, interpreted in the times in which they were written and misquoted several times over.
There is one truth, hold true to that and that is faith.

Question: ***Maybe someone can help me. I don't understand "Faith". ***

Faith is IN someone. So Faith here is faith IN Jesus Christ who died for your sin, who took YOUR punishment of DEATH, He took YOUR place, so that YOU can LIVE through Him.

After you place your faith In Jesus, faith is TRUST...You Trust in one who cannot lie.

So after this you LIVE by Faith in Jesus Christ. You've received Christ in you, and now by faith you let His life and His Power IN YOU have the rightaway. You YIELD all to Him! Romans 4-8 and Chapter 12

Hope that helps.

1. belief or trust: belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof
The Bible is real and nothing in it contradicts itself.

There is a holy spirit that Jesus pours out on those that believe in him. This experience is undeniable. Jesus says in st. john 3:5 you must be born of the and of the spirit to see the kingdom of heaven.

Acts 2:1-4 tells how the apostles received the gift that Jesus pours out, Act10:44-48 shows how the gentiles received the holy spirit. And Acts 19:1-6 shows how john disciples received the gift. and the all received it the same way.

but this experience proves that Jesus did get up on the 3rd day and God is real and the bible is all truth.

There is much in the bible that has been proven to be true by Archeology. Other things are disputed. Only the New Testament was written 2000 years ago the Old was established well before then.

In the New Testament you have the words of men who were there. The places and many of the events of history can be proven. So then you must decide are these men liars or are they telling the truth? There is no way to prove beyound doubt either way.

Would you die for what you believe as they did?

#1 Maybe someone can clear these up for me:

If John had actually seen a dove descending from heaven over Jesus' head, and heard the voice proclaiming him as the "beloved son" etc. (Matthew 3:16-17, Luke 3:22), why did he later send two of his disciples to ask whether Jesus was the awaited redeemer or "do we look for another?" (Matthew 11:2-3 : Luke 7:19-20). If John the Baptist was "Elijah" as Jesus claimed (Matthew 11:14), why did John say that he wasn't (John 1:21)?
---wayne on 6/17/09

Our Lord says: if you seek you will find. He does not give you what you do not seek after. The Bible is inerrant in its original form. The King James Scofield Reference Bible shows words, phrases, changes that were included later, after the original texts were written. Do you think that the same God who has every hair on your head counted is also capable of giving you His absolute truth if only you seek after it in earnest, no matter what has happened over the past 2000 years? He'll be happy to guide you if you seek, instead of passively asking questions like most of us sinners do, and ignore God most of the time.

Adam, you have a mistaken idea between a relationship with religion and a relationship with God. Contrary to popular christian believe, a person does not need to belong to a denominational "church" to have a personal relationship with God.

Denominational "churches" are cults in and of themselves: each having their own traditions, ways of living, and interpretations of the bible. Denominational "churches" are a creation of Satan and he is the father of confusiion.

Christ is not returning to join with (marry) a denomination, a building, or a non-prophit corporation. He is returning for His people. A christian is a christian without joining a denominational "church" or a religion.

It's not about religious labeling or where you worship. It's about how you live that counts. Worship should engage your spirit and seek truth (see John 4:22-24). The "right religion" involves reaching out to those in need (widows, orphans, etc.) and standing firm against an unrighteous world (see James 1:27). Bottom line: It's not about what one says, but what one does. The Anointed One said He's the way, truth and life and no one gets to the Father without going through Him. As prone to sin as we are, it's impossible for us to achieve the goodness required to be with the Father. So, without Messiah's sacrifice (in dying for our sins), there's no other way in. This isn't something to resist, but a gift to accept with gratitude.

Pray each time you read for wisdom, guidance, and revelation. You will see how the old covenant law was established and why it failed. You will learn why God had to send His only Son as a sacrificial Lamb to atone for our sins and be a Savior to those who believe in Him. Learn about the new covenant of grace. To Whosoever has an ear to hear?

Faith being the substance of things Hoped for, evidence of things unseen: makes Faith spiritual and any evidence to be found to prove Faith will only come from Hopes of substances of that spiritually unseen.

Faith like 'Miracles', is believing in the absence of proof: Which can be an impossibly hard leap to be excepted let alone understood by a reasonable mind!

What God is doing here is not about religion in fact it runs counter to most of the current concepts of religion. James the brother of Jesus is credited with saying that pure religion is to take care of widows and orphans and to keep yourself from being corrupted by this world (my paraphrase). God has plan nearing completion to create usefulness and perfection right out of the mouth of weakness. But the cool thing is you can hear the news from the source. My advice it to go to the creator Jesus and ask him to reveal him self to you. Tell him you have no way of knowing what is real and what is man made and ask him to help you sort it out. He will.

2000 years only takes us back to around the birth of Jesus. The bible is much older that that and about 700 years before that the coming of Jesus was prophesied in great detail. Read Isaiah 53 and, if you know much about the life of Jesus, you will not be able to miss the truth that His life was prophecy fulfilled. Many doubters have come to believe because of this, including Jews. That is just one example, there is much more in the old testament that shows that it cannot just have been made up by anyone.

But like any product you want to "know" about, you try it out for yourself to see whether its claims are true. And so it is with Christ. "O taste and see that YHWH good: blessed the man trusting in him." Psalm 34:8.

Biblically man has been here about 6000 years. Nearly all of the Bible has been proven about historical people, places, events, etc. Just look at the current year & know how long ago Jesus was here. As for faith in the "unproven", that takes some committment on each believer's part. The Bible is real. Books written years, decades, centuries apart intertwine by truths. Nothing conflicts itself in God's word. The first step is asking God to show you & allowing yourself to be open to see.

Please Read the inspired word of god the Bible and if you can not grasp it join a good Bible study group, there are people out there every day going house to house for free and they will help for sure. I did.

Rebecca ... I think the questuioners meant other religions such as Buddhism, Hindhuism, and so on.
I don't think she meant that baptists, Lutherans, non-denominationalist are different religions.

Adam, With your question "How do Christians believe what is not proven?", does this mean to say that Christians believe on a God whose existence is not proven yet? I wanted to know because we need not prove the existence of Christ. History proved his existence. I agree with you that many religion have its own idea of a God. For you to know who is right, then please SEARCH. I wish to add here that we could not prove the existence of a God using the methods of experimental sciences.

Are you saved? Have you repented of your sins? Believed in the Jesus, God's Son who died, was burried, and rose again, to pay the price for our sins? That is how to become a Christian, by faith we accept what Jesus did to be our saviour. Faith to me, means to believe in your heart without evidence.
The New Testament of the Bible would be good to read to help you understand the Christian faith. John 3:16,17 Ephesians 2:8,9

It takes faith for anyone to believe in God regardless of their religion. I was raised a Baptist, now I am non-demonational. I guess I have a little of all in me. But the good news is that no matter how anyone believes, God is still God. You believe on how and what you feel is right in the word. I don't believe something just because someone else does, I believe what I believe because that is how I see God in my eyes.

God has given us His Holy Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee (or deposit) confirming that Christianity is indeed very real. (See 2 Corinthians 1:21,22, 2 Corinthians 5:5, Ephesians 1:14)

Just as God walked and talked with Adam in the Garden of Eden, He wants that same type of personal relationship with you. He wants you to experience His love (Ephesians 3:19, Hebrews 6:5, John 13:1). Ask Him to help you overcome your unbelief (Mark 9:24) ... He'll prove Himself to you.

It's not about proof. People witnessed Jesus' healings, miracles and resurrection and some still did not believe, yet the proof was right before their eyes. It's about humility. Being humble enough to admit that we need a savior, humble enough to be teachable. You are on the right track. Seek and you shall indeed find.

Adam:Please read Hebrews Ch.11:It explains the meaning of faith. True there are many religions But each has its belief, but which is the oldest & in which did Jesus who is God resurrect himself, as a man & God back to life in documented evidence, acceptable to those of our times who have FAITH.The God of Christianity, is a God of love, he gave us choice. But also said " I am the truth the way & the life he who BELIEVES in me will have life everlasting."

God said it; we believe it. That's a simple explanation of Christian faith. We can't see and we don't now and never will fully understand it, but we do know God and that's all we need.

If it was proven, you would not need Faith to believe.
And there would be a church on every street corner.

Faith is believing something not seen. We did not witness miracles from 2,000 yrs ago but DO witness miracles today. God is here as he was with people 2,000 yrs ago. Look at his creations. Explain how the sky came to be if not God creating it? What about the animals. A flower growing, A baby growing. Could man have created a baby who would grow a few inches each yr until an adult? God and his miracles are all around us if we just open out eyes and look. We can have faith by seeing all he has given.
