Are There Generational Curses

Are there generational curses? Or is just inherited medical defects?

Moderator - Yes there are generational curses. Yes an inherited medical defect could be just inherited or could be tied to a generational curse. Questions would need to be asked to help determine.

If we have to assume that generational curses are real, then how would we account for any of us not being affected or infected, since in every family there would be ancestors who would have committed some sort of acts deserving curses? If curses can be genetically transmitted, why not salvation?

Gilbert ... I guess the post from the other Gilbert was actually written last year and this blog has been resurrected.

John, this is the Gilbert that has been posting at this site from Aug. on. I didn't write that post on the 18th. Some obiously used my name and may know my e-mail address to look like me. Or maybe someone else named Gilber posted and the diferent e-mail slipped past the Moderators. I agree with you and the Moderator.

There was a blind man whom begged for money, and when the disciples asked Jesus: Who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? what did Jesus answer? John 9:3,6,7.
---Eloy on 2/18/08

Gilbert. The question isn't whether or not sins will be born by decendants. It's if children can be cursed because of ancestors. All through the Bible we see blessings and curses brought on by forefathers. We are all cursed because of the sin of Adam and Eve right? All we need to do is look around us and we will see children reaping what their parents have sown.
---john on 2/18/08

Yes. The sins of the fathers are visited on the children. We have to drop the traditions that disobey God. Once we make ourselves obedient to God, things are better for the following generations. Spiritually speaking. Misfortune can come from the devil. Misfortune does not mean spiritual blindness. Jesus promised his followers that they would be persecuted for following him.

Generational curses are figment of people's imagination based on occultic assumption of explaining misfortunes in people's lives. It has no Biblical foundation. The Bible states that children will not bear the sins of fathers. Deut. 24:16, Eze 18:1-4, 20, 25-27, 30-31. A very good book, which is soundly based on the Scriptures, showing that the idea of the generational curse is a misguided one, is called "The Myth of the Generational Curse" by G. A. N. James published by Xulon Press, 2007.

If you are under the Blood it is impossible to have a curse because God cannot lie and all the blessings are yea and Amen in Christ. if you have broken the covenant of his blood by replacing it with mans doctrine or turned back to the law which is another covenant that brings the curse because you cannot keep it, If you are walking on his blood the wrath will come upon you because his soul despises those that turn back into perdition.

Ex.20:5-6 directly show "generational curses". Studying the original Hebrew and history will give better understanding. A better word may be "debts". See Nu.14:18, Ps.79:8, Ez.18:19 for other examples.

I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God - visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation 'of them that hate me' AND showing mercy unto thousands (of generations) 'of them that LOVE ME AND KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS'. Generational Curses play no part in the life of someone who has been saved. The curses have been lifted, mercy has been shown.

Yes, some civilians recognize generational curses, I even had an Federal government worker ask me if I was baptised. I surmise that he wanted to know whether any past genealogy could influence me, or whether I was in Christ instead.

part 3:
We need to realize that each one of us is OUR OWN PERSON. We make our own decisions to follow God or not. Our misfourtunes in OUR lives are not the results of our ancestor's failures or sucesses, but OURS alone!
---Fred_S. on 3/21/06

part 2:
As for the term: like father, like son, or the apple does not fall too far from the tree, that is what our parents raised us to believe, because it's what they were taught. We use our parents "learning" as an excuse too many times for our failures. As for the doctors wanting family history, It is a genetic thing. Our families have the same DNA structure base.

How is it possible for you to witness to some one and tell them Jesus died for All their sins, and they are forgiven and have everlasting life if the accept him as their savior. BUT YOU WILL STILL HAVE GENERATIONAL CURSES ON YOUR LIFE FROM YOUR ANCESTERS? Talk about mixed signals! Jesus became a curse for us on the cross, as well as our sins.
---Fred_S. on 3/21/06

Even the doctors recognize generational curses...they ask you about medical problems in your family history. So do counselors..they ask about family problems too.
---Ashton on 3/21/06

There are no generational curses to the redeemed. The son does not bear the wrong of the father, instead each soul is held accountable for their own deeds or misdeeds. When a wicked parent bears a child, and the child does not follow the wicked parent, but instead turns to the Lord and follows righteousness; then the child will not be cursed as the parent is, but instead the child will be blessed. Please read Ezekiel 18.

To moderator, A curse on the people of the New Testament, get real.

Moderator - What is your question?
---Thomas on 3/20/06

The Bible teaches us the power of our words. If a family is constantly claiming that everyone for years in their family has done this or had this, their words may be used to manifest this. God is in control of our future, not our past relatives.

for the last 2 generations, I`m the 3rd, no first born male in my family has lived past the age of 60. This is fact, confirmed by a member of the family doing geneaology.
Interestingly, the 2nd son, my great uncle, died at the age 96, and my father had a sister, who is alive and well.
Is it a family curse, I think it was and have dealt with it, I'm 53 now and intend to live till I'm 120, or the Rapture.

ever heard the term "like father, like son"?That can be said down thru the generations. Salvation is the only thing that will break a generational curse.

I think the Kennedy family is a good example of a generational curse. As far as medical defects, I was taught these are generational demons ... like addiction, alcoholism, etc.
