Kids Go To Hell Or Heaven

Is there Bible verse to suggest that children go to heaven when they die. Or is there scripture verse to say they will go to hell when they die. I need to know this. I have heard different views but have not found Bible verse to back any answer up.

"To one that knows to do good, and does not, to that one it is sin. And these will go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." James 4:5+ Matthew 25:46.

How about neither? Both the Old and New Testament teach that death is a sleep (i.e. John 11:11-14, Matt. 9:24, Daniel 12:2, 1 Thess. 4:14). When Jesus comes a 2nd time, He will awaken His children from this sleep and take them home to heaven. Until then, all are resting, awaiting the voice of the Life-Giver. What a wonderful comfort to know that our loved ones are resting and waiting for Jesus. The 2nd Coming is such a Blessed Hope, isn't it? I can hardly wait!

I have heard the verse you are referring to, and I believe that until children reach the age of accountability (knowing the difference between right and wrong) they are forgiven. But then, There are many verses that state we are born with sin and are not forgiven until Salvation through Christ.

1st Cliff, go to the back of the class and think about what you 'just' said.

Do we really need everything spelled out for us? God loves little children. They do not know right from wrong. They have not lived long enough to be guilty of any sin or sins. So all babies will go to heaven.

I agree because when we come to the age of accountability or the age of understanding then we must be born-again. Spiritual death comes at the age of accountability.I thought about that before as well.

I believe that children do go to Heaven. I don't think there is any specific verse, but if we look at the Scriptures realistically it only makes sense that they do. Jesus said unless we all become as little children we will never enter the kingdom of Heaven. Also when we become Christians it takes a realization that we have sinned and need to repent. Little children do not understand sin. When Jesus started teaching at the Synogogue He was 12-years-old, so I believe that is the age of awareness.

If children means under 13, Scripture shows God to be overwhelmingly merciful to the ignorant.

If children means 13-20, the time of Scriptural understanding, human maturity, & repentance would seem to play a great part in God's decision. An 18 yr old ignorantly rejecting God is different than a 15 yr old that completely understands & rejects God.

But God (Potter) ultimately forms the clay (Rom 9) & ultimately predestines (Eph 1, Jer 1).

len.k: Never shy, only a sadistic fiend ,like Hitler ,would burn humans (incuding babies) but at least he gassed them 1st, they were not burned alive! If you read Jer.32.35 you'll see that pagans sacrificed humans to the god Molech, burning them, notice that god said this sort of thing "never entered His mind!" That's my belief also!
---1st_cliff on 12/5/05

I must not see your logic. Yes/no, do you believe Babies burn? (Intrepretation is something we all do.) the fact is 'some' fundys say babies burn, and Calvinist say they do. What say you? Dont be shy....
---len_k on 12/4/05

Len K: I only believe what scripture says, not what "I think" People screaming and burning in a fire, is a missunderstood "fundamentalist" doctrine, taking "literally" what the bible says "figuratively" no,no no, God is LOVE! If you believe it's literal then you're painting God as cruel!
---1st_cliff on 12/4/05

It is mostly Calvinist who have no problem consigning babies to hell. Some fundamentalist say 'age of accountability' is unbiblical, period. If you believe BBQ babies are burning, screaming in hell for eternity then ou are creating a God more ruthless than a million Hitlers. God is bigger than that. Cliff share your loving doctrine with a Mother who lost a child to SIDS, if you dare!

Jesus took a little child, put him in the midst of the people and said, The kingdom of heaven is made up of such as these- innocent, trusting, pure unquestioning faith. I don't believe He would have used a child as an example if there were no children in heaven.

Does anyone here read the bible? Psl.51.5"Surely I was sinful at birth!Sinful from the time my mother concieved me."(NIV) We inherited sin from Adam! Scripture does not support the idea that we need to reach a certain age before we are declared "sinful" Jer.17.9 "the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure."
---1st_cliff on 12/1/05

I think most of us agree that the age of accountability varies. Obviously little babies would go to heaven. God looks at our hearts and knows which of His children are accountable for their actions and which are not.

God bless.
---Dorothy on 12/1/05

I do not believe that God will judge the actions or sins of anyone who has not reached the age of understanding. That age will vary from person to person but God knows when that is with each one.
