Parable Of The Ten Virgins

Many Christians believe that the "Parable of the Ten Virgins" (Matthew 25) is speaking of the rapture and should be a warning to us that not all Christians will be raptured. Any thoughts?

Moderator - I do think that one of the greatest mission fields is in church every Sunday morning with people whom believe that they are Christian.

The 5 wise kept their salvation up to date ( oil replenished ) what was required of God, & the br - groom came & took them.

The 5 foolish with their salvation flirted around with the devilish things of the world ( non - replenished, oil run out ) that God has No part of & they were left behind.

the rapture theory has only been around for approx 150 years,2 thess says THAT DAY doesnt say days ,as in rapture and day of the lord.jesus will return once for one church .one body of believers.miss the first one /jew or gentile theirs no second chance. in christ wayne

Jesus himself gave us this story of 10 virgins, So I'm sure theirs something to it.
It has always been pretty simple to me.
It's like the squirel that messed around all the time and did'nt Gather food for the winter, When winter came HE Died, alone, out in the Cold!
Same thing this parables saying,Don't prepare and you to will be left outside without God.
Most of our Lords Parables tell of Good & Evil & WHERE thier GOING..
---Duane_Dudley_Martin on 3/13/08

This question spawns 2 more questions. Where do you find any 'grace' in the 10 Virgin story---or for that matter in the book of Revelation? If all you need is grace, then how come Jesus has not come already?
---Dr.Rich on 3/13/08

It is the Rapture(Taking away) that comes upon man as a Thief, NOT, the 2nd COMING.
As lightening from east to west,THAT SHOUILD BE PRETTY EASY TO SEE COMING!
The Antichrist has just slain the 2 witnesses, darkness(Sun & Moon) has covered the Earth & after 3 days they rise from the dead & a Great Earthquake happens.
Check your Bible it even gives how many days he will rule.

#6 They will all hide their light, sleep, for they will be afraid. The apostasy of Christendom will be in such an advanced stage that they will admit that there is no use to say anything. They will feel weak and useless in the midst of the awful departure from the Scriptures of truth. But there will be a cry heard. "Behold the Bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet Him." That cry will probably be the result of the catching away of the Bride.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

#8 And tho' in the parable, the master at the door of the bridal chamber denies all knowledge of those unwise virgins, this simply means that they were not invited to the wedding, which fact was proved in that they were not ready when the call went forth for the guests. But when they come, they are not called foolish, for they have the oil, and hope that they may yet be in time for the feast. Alas, it is too late.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

#9 They failed for lack of watching - did not discern the signs of the times. Let us learn from their mistake and not be caught napping when Jesus comes.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

#1 First of all, this parable has nothing to do with the rapture of the Church as a whole. Let me explain a little. These wise virgins are not the Bride. "Then shall the Kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom." The little word "then" connects the parable with what was said on the mount, and with the 7 years of Daniel 9:27.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

#2 We must first understand that the translation of the Church will be gradual in order to grasp the meaning of this parable correctly. There will be a time period when God deals with the transition from heavenly(the Church) to the earthly (Israel) people. The Kingdom of heaven is not, at the present time, likened to ten virgins. In the middle of the 7 years of tribulation, the Kingdom will be likened to ten virgins.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

#3 At that future time, those that are Christ's will be clearly seen. The name virgins signifies their separation from the world, especially the defiling religious condition of the end. God never likens the ungodly to a virgin. The word carries with it the thought of chastity, purity, etc. Then too, all the virgins have lamps and they all go forth to meet the bridegroom. Now we know that the sinner has no lamp, or light, which speaks of the Word of God, illuminated by the Spirit of God.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

#4 And their lamps were lit, for later they speak of the light growing dim, which is the true rendering of "our lamps are gone out." The going forth to meet the Bridegroom, is another self-evident fact that they are true believers, for this is the attitude of believers, not deceivers, "to wait for the Son from heaven" - I Thes. 1:10. We know the sinner does not expect the Lord to come. The moment we are in this attitude of faith and expectation, we cease to be sinners.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

#5 There is a difference between these two classes of virgins - "five were wise and five were foolish." One class took oil in their vessels with their lamps, while the other class took their lamps without any extra supply of oil. They were not prepared to go out to meet the Bridegroom. Their lamps were going out. They all slumbered which means their testimony was not aggressive. They were passive in regards the truth.
---Debbie_Jo on 3/12/08

The 'Ten Virgin Parable' is also a prophecy. Matt. 24:45 showes us that ONE person is in charge of the Masters House and this one person will be feeding (giving new truth) to the rest of the servants when Jesus comes like a thief. (Not the same event at coming in the clouds) At this same time, the Kingdom of Heaven (KOH) will be like the servants of the bride. They are not the bride, but it is their job to get the bride ready.
---Dr.Rich on 3/12/08

All of them fall asleep and do NOT see Jesus come (like a thief). This group is the same as Dan.2's 'rock cut out w/o hands', and come from the bride (every religious group) and get their start in 1843-44 (Dan.8:14). They match the discription of those found in Rev. 12:17 so they are sabbath keepers. They have no clue as to who they are because they now are all sleeping.
---Dr.Rich on 3/12/08

They are also the 7 churchs found in Rev.2 & 3. The 144,000 come from this group as found in Rev.3:4--who then become Philadelphia. They are judged first (Rev. 11:1,2 and 7:3) They go through the tribulation but it is not a test for them. (Rev.3:10) They have the absolute truth (Rev.14:1-5) that they give to the world during the time of trouble. The truth that they and the 5 wise tell is what gets the bride ready (Rev.7:9-14). This is just a short preview of a new book coming out shortly.

The parable refers to being(not in darkness) ready at the second and last coming of Christ or the judgement. The rapture doctrine came about the 1800's but prior to that there was no such teaching . Jesus will return once to judge the living and the dead at the end of the world. Everyone here before that will go through the tribulation. I agree with the moderator on this one. Many people who believe themselves "saved" are not.

---Duane_Dudley_Martin on 3/12/08

Seems to me that the parable was just another way
that Jesus used to teach the disciples to be always
watchful and mindful of the things of God, same as
what he had just told them in Matthew 24:42_51.
---Nana on 3/12/08

My understanding of the parable is the 5 wise virgins are the believers who put Jesus first in their lives, themselves last (pure at heart)will caught up in 1st rapture. The 5 foolish virgins are the believers who put themselves first and Jesus last (tribulation saints). Another similar example is in 2 Timothy 2:16-26 with the vessels. Gold & silver (pure at heart), and wooden & earth (tribulation saints).

(1.)Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost [after] salvation is vital, Christ commanded His disciples to linger in the city until they were endued with power from on High (Acts chapters 1 & 2), the promise of the Father(Luke 3:16)(Acts 8:14-17)(Acts 11:15,16). Many Christians today are full of excuses in regard to obeying God, they will come up lacking when Jesus comes back.
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/18/07

(2.)In the Parable of the Marriage Feast (Matthew 22), Christ is warning Born-again Christians(His "friends") about the result of not receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost [after] Salvation, thus not being prepared for the Rapture, once again, He referred to the person in the parable as "friend" (not a unclean person like a sinner or backslider)...

(3.)God's Word cant be fully [discerned] without the unction of the Holy Spirit, members of the bridal company have this vital godly discernment. God tells His people to Grow in His Grace and Knowledge(2 Peter 3:18).

Question for those who are [truly] Jesus Blood Washed : Have Ye received the Holy Ghost(precious Oil)(Matthew 25)since ye believed? (Acts 19:2). God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/18/07

Matt 25 we see the foolish and wise. They all have lamps this can be related to good works and religion. Not all of them had oil. Those with oil could give off light. The Oil represents the Holy Spirit. All NT Saints have the Holy Spirit the lost do not. Of these 10 virgins only 5 were able to go to the Bridegroom because of the Oil.
Only Christians will go when the Bridegroom returns.

Mrs. Morgan, God leads His people into all Truth through His Written Word.
Where do you find out about the Holy Spirit? Is it not the Word of God?
Where do you find out about any issue concerning the Christian except through the Word?
Our experiences and "feelings" must be tested by the Word not the other way around.
---Elder on 9/24/06

Elder, I don't go by "Feelings" but by Reality, Scripture, the Direction of the Holy Ghost. Not interested in "feelings" or "man's reasoning" in regard to God's Truth, Elder. Most don't let the Holy Ghost lead them into all Truth, because they resist Him, so they will remain confused, and have wrong answers, lack godly wisdom.God's people in this final hours are a Holy Ghost filled and lead people and God gives them the right answers, godly wisdom because they OBEY HIM.
---Mrs._Morgan on 9/23/06

Mrs. Morgan, you said, "let the people decide what is sound doctrine and what isn't, thats the beauty of free choice!"
The Bible must make that issue known by what it truly teaches on the issues.
Humans always seek the lower level.
I don't like paying high prices for gas but the Bible says do not steal... The Sound Doctrine is that I don't steal not how I feel about it.

Parable of the 10 wise virgins speaks about 2groups of people, one who are prepared with oil in their lamps/they have the knowlege of the word of God, the other group are non believers 5 virgins with no oil who couldnt care less to be prepared for Christ. And when Christ comes, the word will be nomore and they will be looking but couldnt find and they will say Lord Lord, open, and He will say, I know you not.So keep watch,we dont know when He's coming.

Mrs. Morgan- You say: the Word clearly points out that the Baptism of Fire and the gift of tongues are 2 different experiences.
I would enjoy studying this with you. I agree they are 2 different experiences. The baptism of fire is what happens when God burns the world so He can make it new. And speaking in tongues was a sign He had ratified His offering, and the Holy Spirit descended on the day of pentacost to communicate to men in their native language the great news.

Hello New Morgan, The evidence you stated is false evidence. You do not tell a Christian by the evidence of speaking in tongues. I don't know where you learned that but it is not by Scripture. It is by the Word faith movement. You are deep in it. False teachings.
---karen on 7/28/06

Everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe, but it's important that people are able to make a choice here, there are a lot of posts with many different opinions, let the people decide what is sound doctrine and what isn't, thats the beauty of free choice!
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/28/06

Ryan, as I mentioned before , there are many evidences that the Holy Ghost is in a persons life, the fruits of the spirit are supernatural fruits, not produced by man but the Holy Ghost Himself, I said that the "first" evidence God choose was speaking in tongues, God's "true" tongues that is! I don't expect everyone to be in agreement about everything here, thats what I believe, and many others too to be sound doctrine.
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/28/06

Ryan, the Word clearly points out that the Baptism of Fire and the gift of tongues are 2 different experiences, sorry that you don't agree, everyone has the right to their opinions.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of the gift of tongues. Tongues are used to speak different languages to spread the gospel, look at the account in the upper room. Tongues are not a prayer language or evidence of the indwelling. Paul says in Corinthians if one wants to speak in tongues and there is no one to interpret than stay silent. Tongues are a lesser gift than prophecy. Tongues edifies the individual but prophecy edifies God.
---Ryan on 7/28/06

Mrs. Morgan, you say "the first initial sign that the Holy Spirit has 'Come In' is speaking in tongues" The gift of tongues is just that, a gift. Not all Christians receive the gift of tongues. Evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is production of fruit. God says "You will know My children by their fruit" Not, "You will know My children because they speak in tongues."
---Ryan on 7/28/06

I believe we teach an incomplete Gospel. We are to be baptized in the Spirit the day we are saved.Look at "Cornealus". He believed and received. If we were to preach a full gospel, that we are from the beginning crucified with Christ, raised up, by the power of the HP, and baptized into His body, not in stages of life..or taught this is sanctification, instead of Salvation, there may not be so much confusion. Total Surrender! Not a lay away plan.
---kathr4453 on 7/28/06

Christians , if you have not received the Holy Ghost, and you are living right, receive Him! This is God's promise, just like the promise of salvation! Praise Jesus with all your heart, "I praise you Jesus, I love You Jesus" praise Him non-stop with all your heart, and let the Holy Ghost come in, the first sign that He is coming in is "stammering lips" keep praising Jesus, until the Holy Ghost takes over and speaks though you in a "fluent" tongue, don't doubt, believe!
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/27/06

Read These Insightful Articles About Franchises

The pattern of receiving the Holy Ghost is in the Bible, see "Acts". The Apostles were praising God, giving God the Glory. They didn't need anyone to "teach" them to speak in tongues, they didn't speak nonsense madeup words, it was the Holy Ghost " Himself" speaking through them, holy vessels, holy people, yeilding themselves to God.
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/27/06

The "Real" Holy Ghost will not baptise anyone unless they are born again, Jesus-Blood washed, if there is any unrepented sin in a person's life and they claim to have the Holy Ghost , and speak in "tongues", it's NOT the "Real" Holy Ghost. Beware of counterfeits, God never mingles with sin, confusion, and fanaticism.
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/27/06

Many Christians stop with salvation , but don't go on to receive the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, the Baptism of Fire that John the Baptist mentioned. If they continue with the Lord, and live right , when they die they will go to heaven, but Jesus said they won't make the Rapture unless they get the "oil" on the inside , the Holy Ghost.
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/27/06

Acts: Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? We need the Holy Ghost on the very "inside" of us , not just "with" us, but on the "inside" of us to make the Rapture, Jesus told us this in this parable. We are in the Holy Ghost Dispensation! The first Initial sign that the Holy Ghost has "come in" is speaking in tongues, there are other evidences that the Holy Ghost has set up His abode in you, but God choose this to be the first evidence.

Yes, this is about the Rapture. The Lord is talking to Christian's here, "virgins" meaning clean-holy. 5 virgins had the "oil" and 5 did not. The "oil" represents having the Holy Ghost on the "inside". Many Christians have stumbled over this, the Holy Ghost Baptism "after" salvation is a commandment from Jesus, remember the upper room?
---Mrs._Morgan on 7/27/06

Lynn_Bedford77-You have conveniently left out Enoch. Wasn't Enoch a "type of" translated saint that did not see the flood which is a "type of" tribulation? Although I am not decided it there is a pre-trib or post-trib rapture I believe it is important to weigh the evidence fairly from both sides.
---Ryan on 7/27/06

The parable of the ten virgins the parable of the talents the parable of the vinedresser and the parable of the separation of sheep from goats all speak of the ame thing. There are people who believe they are christians but truly they are not. There are wise virgins wise slaves good branches that produce fruit and sheep that will inherit the kingdom. Many are called few are chosen the road is wide but few find the straight and narrow path.
---Ryan on 7/27/06 mentioned last trump. I found something that has me wondering. Last trump is mentioned 1 cor 15, end of chapter. Rev 10:7 is at the 7th trump, or last trump. Mystery of God is complete. "Mystery of God" only used one other time in those exact words, refer to the Church, in Colossians ch 2. At the last trump "we will meet Him in the air". Peter says Judgement begins at the house of the Lord. the 7 trumps are the 7 judgements. Last call for worldly christians????

Part 5: Luke 12:36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when He cometh and knocketh, they may open unto Him immediately. This group is waiting for the Lord to return for them AFTER THE WEDDING HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE. In other words, THEY MISSED THE WEDDING! So clearly, Jesus is speaking to the tribulation saints, also called the foolish virgins, and little flock. you have to see the WHOLE tapestry that the ENTIRE Bible paints.

Part 4: There is a scripture in John 10:4 that talks about two flocks. It describes the first flock as those who follow Him for they know His voice. This clearly describes, the wise virgins, who are intimate with Jesus, knowing His voice, and follow Him by being obedient doers of the Word. The second flock, the little is described in verse 16. John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
---Fred_S. on 12/12/05

Part 3:There is a seldom quoted passage of scripture that talks about a group of believers that are being exhorted after obviously been left behind at the rapture of the Bride. These particular believers will clearly miss the wedding, but not the wedding supper of the Lamb. Matthew 25 we see that the believers that are left behind at that first rapture are called foolish virgins. So it should be obvious that this group of believers being addressed by Jesus in Luke 12:32 is referred to as the little flock.

I agree with Elder- I also agree that the church is a great mission field.----mima12/11/2005

Part 2: Another passage identifying those that will cry out Lord, Lord when they find out they are left behind at the rapture of the Bride also seems to identify them as believers. It says in Luke 13:26 that they have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. In other words it seems as if they had eaten and drunk in His presence when they took communion and taught in the street when they were sharing the Word of God with others. That seems to also refer to a believer.

Aren't the foolish virgins adressing Jesus as Lord, showing that they are believers? (1 Corinthians 12:3 says that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.) Another passage is the foolish minister. Matthew 7:22-23. 22 Many will say to me in that day (Rapture), Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
