What Is Love

From the other blogs I got this information: "Abram (Abraham) married his sister, Isaac married his 1st cousin, Jacob married two of his cousins". Do you think these marriages were based on LOVE? And how do you view love-relationships between cousins these days? Is it allowable?

Emcee ... I am not sure that the Bible forebids marriage between cousins? In fact I am sure not.
But it is a dangerous thing, as the results show, and it is right that it is discouraged today. A pity the Muslims still practice it.
But surely there aer Christians who will say that since the Bible does not forbid it, it is still OK?
Incidently, you say it is forbidden nowadays ... where is that ... in the UK there is no law against marriga ebetween first cousins

Alan of Uk::I believe in Christianity today such close interrelationalships are forbidden .As we progress so do the laws of God for our benefit. we once used candles and lamps till Edison came along giving us artificial light in the Hours of Darkness.

Certain Muslim communities in UK have a tradition of marriage between cousins. They also have a much higher than average incidence of congenital defects.

Leviticus 18 specifies to what degree God considered close relatives. None of which are cousins.

my definition of love, slightly modified from the greek definition is caring for someone more than yourself. Meeting their needs before your own. And you can love someone without really liking them. EXAMPLE: I may not want to share a meal with you, but in Christian love, I will want to make sure that you have food. MR

You're correct Alan, marrying a close relative can cause birth defects. This is a custom in Eastern countries because they don't want 'mixing.'
I know a woman here in the US who is Lebanese who married her 2nd cousin. It was pushed by her parents.

The simple answer to what love is to me, is when we love and care about someone more than we love ourselves. And yes, God IS love.

Born-again Christians are followers of Christ and his commands, and are filled with his Holy Spirit, and therefore know that incest is an unallowable sin.

Love is when 2 people are joined to gether as 1

I don't think they were love relations in the sense that we mean that these days. There was less choice of who to marry, they wanted to keep their wealth in the family and probably were happier knowing that their daughter was marrying the son of a relative whom they could probably trust. I'm sure that there are true love relations these days between cousins and here in U.K. it is not illegal. I think they are fairly rare in first cousins though.
