Why Did I Get Saved

I accepted Christ many years ago. Lately I have wondered how can I be sure accepting was all love for Him and not just avoiding eternal torture.

Accepting Christ was the right thing for you to have eternal life. Look into your heart and ask Christ. He is the only one who can answer your question. But accepting Him as your King was all the love for Him. It reassures Him that you Love Him enough to give your life to Him.

Recently while witnessing two young men(35-40) came up and I witnessed to them both at the same time. They both prayed a sinner prayer with me Immediately after that one man said O I am saved. And I feel warm all over while the other man said to me, I don't think I can be saved, "I've messed up too many times." And the other man spoke up and said, you have just been saved and don't(realize) know it. Had to be the same message. It was delivered to both at the same time. What is your opinion of this situation?

To tell you the truth, I didnt know,
Now that i'm old i can retrospect and see that it was the Convicting Spirit of The Holy Ghost that touched me and sent me forth.

I was at church(Easter 1974) and a overwhelming feeling(Convicted Heart) overcame me to step forward and claim Jesus as my Lord.
I have loved him for longer than i can remember 4/5 yrs, old...

Their is no limit to the depths of his love,
I am proof of that!

The question is, what do you feel now? Do you still look at your "salvation" as a means to avoid the eternal lake of fire, or do you now see that we are saved to glorify God and praise Him? Many people come to the cross looking for the escape route, but, blessed are those who see the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord AND Saviour, and worthy of all honour and glory and praise, Amen!

1 Peter 2:23 shows how Jesus, "when He suffered, did not threaten" > so, I can see that Jesus is NOT using Hell as a threat. Also, if He suffered like He did on the cross, He must have been pretty convinced this was necessary, in order to save us from what He knew was waiting for us; if all a sinner gets is annihilation into an unconscious (painless) eternity, why would Jesus bother to suffer like that?

He also said, "if it were not so, I would have told you", in John 14:2.

Get concerned with ***God's reason*** for saving you > "But he who has been joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him." (1 Corinthians 6:17) God desires each of us to be "one spirit with Him" . . .

in His own love (Romans 5:5) having Heaven's pleasantness > "and you will find rest for your souls." (in Mathew 11:29)

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15)

*Part of evangelizing and preaching the gospel involves telling people that if they are not saved they will go to hell....Jesus preached about hell and obviously does not want anyone to go there.*

This is why I don't like the "You need to be saved so you can feel the love of Jesus". NO Jesus' way of evangelism is the best way. If it wasn't he wouldn't of used it. "If you don't get saved you burn in hell for eternity."
---Matthew on 6/7/07

Escaping Hell is our first reason for getting saved. Nothing wrong with that. My question is this: If you got saved many years ago, you should have settled that question a long time ago, as well. You should feel the love in your heart that you have for Jesus, by this time. You should be seasoned, so to speak. Its not all about feelings, I know, but you should have some assurance you belong to Christ. Either you love Jesus or you don't.

Part of evangelizing and preaching the gospel involves telling people that if they are not saved they will go to hell. It is quite reasonable, therefore, that part of our reason for accepting Jesus as Lord of our life is because we do not want to go to hell. Jesus preached about hell and obviously does not want anyone to go there. Most of us soon settle down and realise that there is much more joy in being a Christian (here on earth) than just avoiding hell.

If you are unsure at all, then I would fall down upon my knees and make sure I was saved. When you Jesus in your heart, you know it. I think it is Satan telling you that your not actually saved to cause confusion in your life. In which he has. But to be on the safe side, I'd still talk to the Father about this now.

Ulrika: I believe the Message of God's love is literal, and thus am uncomfortable about fires being stoked to keep the unsaved screaming for eternity while I enjoy Heaven. I think the Four Horsemen in Revelation might not involve actual horses but are symbolic of the great distresses to mankind in the end times. But if it is all literal, it is perfect, because God's plan is perfect. Geraldine

Long ago, did you totally surrender and have a full conversion, or was it just a mental ascent or acquiescence on your part? When we draw close to him, he draws close to us and revives us. Recall when you first invited him into your heart and into life, and his overwhelming love for you to take all of your own sins upon himself, and how he died in your place upon the cross. He loves you greater than any one else does in the whole world. Realize this and fall upon his goodness, and give him thanks.

Geraldine, How do you know the lake of fire is not literal?
---Ulrika on 1/1/06

Thanks to all who responded; it helped greatly. None of you mentioned that perhaps the Lake of Fire is not literal, but is a "picture" of the agony of separation from God. I love God, I think about Him continually, and I will try to remember constantly that His plan and purpose are perfect, and will rest in trusting that. Geraldine

Life or death has always been our choice, not heaven or hell-fire! Wages of sin, gift of life=(matt 6.23)Choose life that you and your family shall live=(deut 30.19)Show me the scripture that says "choose heaven" (over hell-fire) How hard is it to make a decision with a gun to your head or a knife to your throat? If you know God (as you say you do) then you know He dosen't opperate that way! 1Jn4.8 God IS love!

Only you and God know, why you believed in Jesus and received him as your saviour. You could pray and ask God to help you to sincerely love and trust him. I was very afraid, when I heard about hell and the need to be saved.

It is my hope that FEAR has no place in your relationship with the Lord for fear cannot coexist with LOVE! Cultivate LOVE in all that you do and FEAR will flee and you will be much happier for it. Happy New Year! P.
---Pierre on 1/1/06

You are asking yourself a very important question and the fact that you are not sure is troubling but this is a NEW YEAR and a good time ro resolve the question.
This may help: Consider your relationship with your Saviour. How much "quality" time do you spend with Him? If it is minimal, it is probably not a relationhip "in love" but more of something else. TBC

Geraldine, If you believe in Jesus, you are saved. Just realize all that he has done for you and the wonderful things that He has planned for you! The woman who brought me to the revelation of Jesus got saved herself out of fear, but that didn't make her not saved. Jesus said to just believe. If you feel that you don't love Him like you want, ask Him to put a love for Him in your heart more, and He will! Dear lady, You worry for nothing. God bless you abundantly!
---John on 1/1/06

The fear of hell will not keep you from going there, the Devil knows his destiny but can`t change it....only a love for the Father and the desire to be with Christ will get you to heaven. Our desire should be for the chance to thank JESUS for what he did for us face to face and that can only happen in heaven.

How could you have a love for Him who you did not know?
Jesus preached more about Hell than Heaven. We are told to believe and be SAVED. Saved from what? Hell. You came to Him lost, alone, a stranger and enemy of God. It is after we recieve Him and realize the extent of what He has done for us and His love for us that we learn to love Him.
---Bruce5656 on 12/31/05

Your salvation is based on your hearing and believeing in JESUS. Now your love for the Lord grows out of being in him, deep love takes time. You may have first come to JESUS to stay out of hell but today you know He loves you and so you love Him.---mima12/31/2005
