Can Christians Get Sick

Does it say in the Bible if any of the diciples had taken sick? I was once told a true child of God doesn't get sick.

thanks bryan, I have total peace about my daughter. her life wasn't a very happy one. I raised her just like my 2 other children but she just struggled thru her whole life. Im glad she is at peace now.

-shira4368I'm sorry for you lose. On this earth, we war against thing that are not of this earth. Ephesians 6: 7to20 The apostle tries to explain this to us. Life is victory in Christ, Grace and Mercy, Loving kindness from God. Some will never believe we are in a battle for our life's against evil. Who wants us nothing but dead. That is were the word of God comes in, if your sowing it and your growing it and it will produce life in you and around you. That is were the bible said your cup will over flow.

when my daughter passed away, I have friends who sing. they sang at her funeral even tho they are on the road all the time, they chose to drive here to sing. the song they sang is "If you only knew". it is about a very sick person who was healed at death. awesome song. look it up on the internet. many are healed at death because their bodys don't hurt anymore.

God can heal who he wants and He always heals if it is His will. our bodies are coruptable and all people get sick. Hopefully our spirits don't get sick but I know some who are not good spiritually.

Galatians. 4:13-15 13As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you. 14Even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. 15What has happened to all your joy? I can testify that, if you could have done so, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.
Paul, through some illness that seems to be associated with his eyes, was presented with an opportunity to preach the gospel.
---Greg on 12/17/08

There is another lie straight from the pit of hell. When Christ healed a man, the disciple asked him what sin had been committed that the affliction had been upon him and Jesus asnwered that no sin was the cause. There are many reasons for illness and not all are direct result of the sin of the afflicted one. Certainly something has gone wrong but it has nothing to do with wheather a person is Christian. A healthy person can go to hell if he doesn't know Jesus. Jesus is the only factor not health:)

If you are a human being, you can get sick.
---Lisa on 11/5/07

Here is a funny story relating to this question. Once while traveling by car over a long-distance with a name it -claim it person and a strong believer in Benny Hinn, and after several days of him bragging about never getting sick, he suddenly got sick and had to stop riding for a while. Needless to say, we do not discuss Benny Hinn, and not being sick anymore!!!!
---Mima on 11/3/07

If they told you that, they believe the word of faith cult doctrine, preached by Benny Hinn and others. Paul was a true child of God and he was sick. Even Benny Hinn has been to the doctor, what a hypocrite. Preaches a true Christian does not get sick but goes to doctor himself.
---RevHerb on 11/2/07

Epaphroditis was listed as being sick, nigh unto death, not considering his own body to make up for the lack of service of the other churches. And it is a shame when some have to work beyond the "twain" commanded by Jesus so the greedy can make excuses not to tithe. Katherine.
---Katherine on 2/18/06

While we may be children of God, we will still get sick, because we have human bodies, frailties etc...all sickness will be abolished, after our resurrection,as in Rev 21:4..being a child of God helps me cope with sickness , because I know in eternity is when I will be completely FREE of ALL sickness.
---karin on 2/3/06

Christians are spiritual beings in human bodies. This means we are subject to every illness that non-christians have. The up side is, most doctors seems to be of the opinion that Christians seem to recovery faster. Let me preach for a minute. There are three ways God heals: 1. Preventative actions, (such as balanced nutrition and exercise), 2. Normal medical procedures, (such as doctors) and 3. Divine Intervention, (where God just heals the person.)

In the following verses, Paul tells about his "thorn in the flesh," and why God would not take it from him. 2Corinthians 12:7-10 Galatians 4:13-15 I think the "thorn in the flesh" was very poor eye sight.
---Ulrika on 1/14/06

I want to reply to this question as a Christian who is "sick". I multiple chronic pain illnesses. And I am a true child of God. God allows us to have illnesses and trials for reasons. So that we can grow in faith and trust in Him. My turst in God has grown so much since I have been "sick" it is unbelieveable. So if anything being "sick" is a blessing. And yes it is believed that Paul had health problems!
---diane9967 on 1/14/06

Sickness can humble us, and remind us that we are in a human body. It sure humbled me, when I got sick when I was 18. Sickness can help us to realize our need to trust in God.

2. She is correct. We are to work our faith and we do that by depending on Him and Him along. Not in ourselves. I believe we should all pray for each other and put hands on the sick, but we also have to be ready to except the answer even when we don't like it. Not all our prayers will be answered and it does not have anything to do with our faith. It would be foolish to think that someone died because we didn't have enough faith. Why would that person pay for our lack of faith?
---Lupe2618 on 1/9/06

John, exercising your faith is great. I heard Charlies Stanley say once, "if you had the faith, why did you worry the night before?" He meant that if we believe God and our dependence is on Him then we should not worry. Yet we all do anyway. When a love one is dying or sick, though we trust God, we don't know what He is going to allow to happen. We know what we want, but we don't know what is in the future as God does. Our faith is not perfect so as Dory said, we have to work our faith.

Eloy ... It looks as if there are two kinds of faith. On the one hand the healer's faith your faith when you brought the baby back to life. On the other hand the sufferer's faith, which may be inadequate (as some here will say, my wife and Lupe's each had insufficient faith because they died)
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/4/06

lupe. My heart goes out to you for the loss. I've also had losses. I too will continue. But I will try to go by the Scripture "with faith all things are possible". I beleive the Scriptures teach us that when we exercise faith without doubting, we will move montains and nothing will be impossible. This is where I strive to walk. It is by this faith that many people walk whole who otherwise would have passed on. Even the blnd man was healed.
---john on 1/4/06

I really cant recall if one of the writers in the new testement ever was sick. But to be honest with you it doesnt really matter one way or the other, the bible is not an exhaustive text. There are going to be life problems and issues that do not have a yes or no answer in the word of god. If you are a follower of Christ Jesus and have been sick than the answer is yes a christian can be sick. If you have never been sick than praise God, but you are not all christians so the answer can still be yes.

It is a very sad story with the miners and we as a body are called to pray for the families and loves one so that they don't lose hope. Not for their relatives that died but for thier own spiritual lifes in Christ. To comfort them with our prayers.

4. That statement from Eloy and John about having to have faith to stay alive or not die opens wounds in my life, because there was many praying for her. No one more then me. But I understand it is the will of God for what happens to a life. I understand I have to summit to His will even when I don't agree with what He does or allows to happen. I understand that I have no control over life only God. I just hope no one here loses a son or daughter and then lose hope because God didn't answer your prayer.
---Lupe2618 on 1/4/06

3. But that the works of God should be revealed in him." here is a man that was a good man but was blind for God's purpose. It was not the devil that did it, but that the works of God should be revealed through him. Many out there are born in some terrible condition but they all have a purpose, we might think its terrible but God doesn't see what we see. God put those words in Scripture for a reason for us to see that it is He who is in control even when we don't understand.
---Lupe2618 on 1/4/06

2. and their anger when they found out they were dead. Those people as Christians were call to pray for them but the Ultimate decision is the will of God. He is the giver of life no one else is. When a person begans to proclaim Messiah, he places himself before God and that is what has happened to many. The pastor at the church concided it was the will of God. The blind man in scripture was blind for a purpose. Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned,
---Lupe2618 on 1/4/06

1. I have stated what I stated so others can know that God is God and He is in control not anyone of us. If you look at what happened to the miners you will see what I am talking about. There was people praying in churches with all their hearts and with the faith that not many here have. It is but the will of God that keeps us alive and only He determines who is to live and who is to die. Those people had faith and had loves ones. Their joy was so strong when they heard they were alive

God heals. Ex 15:26
We all, including Christians, die. I Thess 4:14
Our bodies are CORRUPTABLE, MORTAL. I Cor 15:52 Subject to decay and DEATH. Disease is a process of decay and death. There is no promise that we will ALWAYS be healed else there would be a LOT of verrrrry old Christians around.

Sickness will not be eradicated until the resurrection(Rev.21;4).Christians still have human bodies, susceptible to sickness Healing is God's domain, and He is in control.God helps us to deal with our sicknesses..some answers here lack sensitivity and truth..only God knows our hearts..A sick christian is NOT a Godless christian..they can have more faith than a "well" person sometimes.

Lupe. I have found that many times God has answered my prayer of faith and many times He has answered the faith of the sick person. Sometimes I don't get any results at all but I try not to quit becasue I know healing and deliverance is something God wants us to do. None of us has all the answers but faith certainly is the most significant one. Jesus said if we had faith, nothing would be impossible.

I just knew this would be a good blog. Now lets stay as close to the Bible as possible. Deut 28 and Ps.91 both devote chapters to this subject and say that if we live perfectly in God's will then we will not get sick and all our enemies will be defeated. And if we don't then all the bad stuff happens. So,sin is the problem. It became the problem in Eden and it will stay the problem until the Lord comes back.
---john on 1/3/06

Lets all realize that the devil came to lie, steal, and destroy. Jesus came to give life abundantly. It's God's business if He wants to take someone or something but the devil will steal it. God won't steal anything from us.So we should make sure if it's being stolen or taken because we don't want to interfere with God but we sure want to stop the devil.

2. I say this because millions of true loving faithful Christians have died and many in their churches prayed for them. What Eloy is stating is that my wife did not have enough faith to not die. The Spirit of God gives life, and people will die when God calls them, not before and not after anyone else says so. Good ones and bad ones. There is many Christians sick right this minute. Our lives will bring sickness and death because of the curse of death. If someone is alive it is because of the will of God.
---Lupe2618 on 1/3/06

Eloy might be right on the alcoholics but is wrong in his explanation of healing someone are bringing them back from the dead. To began with, he says they have to have faith in order for it to work. He stated he brought a baby back to life, yet a baby has no faith, so I would assume that it was his faith that did it, the question remains if he can do it without someone else's faith in the picture (as the baby) what is he doing looking for work instead of bringing people to life in all the hospitals?
---Lupe2618 on 1/3/06

Kathay ... Eloy is right. His sister is still an alcoholic, because if ever she does drink any alcohol, she will be craving it again. One remains an alcoholic even if one no longer drinks.
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/3/06

Ulrika, she has gotten as far as possible without faith. If a person has no faith in supernatural healing than they can't receive it, and the best that they can do in the flesh is physical drugs, altered diet and exercise, healthy environments, and counselling. So until she can accept the fact that God can heal, she will always be limited in her alcohol-free condition. But i do pray for her complete deliverance.

emg, Alcohol is a chemical which can cause physical and psychological addiction. Like dieting, it is harder for some to quit than others. She needs to realize that it is toxic (poison) to her, and she should also pray for her complete delierance from the drug. I would continue to pray for her complete salvation. Some people need to check into a detoxification unit or hospital to help quit. My sister belongs to AA, and has been dry and sober and hasn't touched alcohol for about 15-20 years.

Our bodies are susseptable to illness, we are human.
However they are also temples of God and we should study what nutrients, vitamins and herbs build up our immune systems and prevent us from getting ill very often.

Ulrika, do not ignore those red flags. Self-glorification and false statements abound. "Those with faith get healed, and those without faith stay sick." That is patently false. Was the Apostle Paul without faith? Read 2 Corinthians Ch. 12. He prayed three times that God would take away his affliction yet God's response was "My Grace is sufficient for you". Paul's affliction kept him humble before men. We could use more of that around here.

Christians do get sick in the flesh, There faith (laying on of hands etc) using herbs, belief, prayer, etc heals us. Eloy, have you ever been sick?
---Lynn_Bedford77 on 1/3/06

Eloy I'd like to ask you something about healing. I am told that my granddaughter's alcoholism is a disease (not a bad habit). Therefore should I stop seeking advice, counselling (for her and myself). crying myself to sleep, speaking to her about this etc. and just hand it over to God in prayer, believing that she will come through this (rather than the alternative of drinking herself to death). This is a serious question, I'm not disputing anything you've said.
---emg on 1/3/06

Jesus carried our sicknesses and diseases (Isaiah 53:5). He paid the price for our salvation and also our healing (1 Peter 3:1). I believe that God's ultimate desire is health for His people (3 John 2). Unfortunately God's perfect will is not always accomplished in our lives and so yes, of course, Christians can get sick.

In the Bible, every time Jesus came upon a person who had died, that person was brought back to life. Why do we doubt when we hear of His followers doing the same?

Eloy. You made my day when I read about the baby comming back from the dead. Just think what would have happened if you would have had a conservative attitude and just let him go. I'm with you all the way. I have also raised a few but it's eyebrows until now. LOL.It's only a matter of time.Unless the Lord says not to, I lay hands on all the sick and the dead. Ulrika, red flags are put up by nonbelievers, and green flags are put up by believers. Where do you think God is today? God is still performing miracles through those of us who are sent by him. Please read Mark 16:17,18; James 4:14-16.
---Eloy on 1/2/06

Yes Christians do get sick. We ask Christians are no excused from sickness. (We give our sickness to God, because He is in control of all things. We ask God for healing from our sickness (healing that only God can give. Christians don't claim sickness (we claim healings).

I can confirm the resurrection. The reason many people die prematurely from illness, and even many so-called christians is because they have a form of godliness but they deny the power thereof, they have no belief in God's power to heal and they are scoffers like so many are, and they never come to Jesus to be healed. Jesus said that he could not do many miracles in certain places he went because of the peoples unbelief. Those with faith get healed, and those without faith stay sick.
---Eloy on 1/2/06

When someone says they healed someone or raised someone from the dead, that sends up a red flag. No way! Only God heals people, and only God raises the death. When the lame man was healed by God, Peter said, why marvel you at this? or why look you so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? In Jesus name through faith in his name was this man made strong. Acts 3:4-16
---Ulrika on 1/2/06

I can't think of a place where we read about sickness of the disciples. A true child not getting sick? I have to meet one yet. I know we have authority over the works of the devil so he may mean that we don't have to be sick or at least not for long but to say we don't get sick is out of line.

Paul had an infirmity, Luke was a Medical Doctor, Paul instructed Timothy to treat himself for his sickness, Jesus healed one that was born blind for the simple purpose that the Glory of God could be seen.

Sickness comes from more than one source. When we're truly saved the enemy attacks us, remember righteous Job? The prayer of faith saves the sick. i have been healed of many fatal diseases, and through prayer i've also healed others of fatal diseases, and also i have raised another one from the dead through prayer.
