Herb, experience shows me that the word of knowledge actually has been very beneficial to the person in most ways usually spiritually though

Many times this gift has been activated in my own life, many times astounding things have been fulfilled.

I will respond; herein is your answer;

The word of knowledge is a supernatural revelation of divine knowledge, or insight in the divine mind, will, or plan, and also plans of others that man could not know of himself as is stated in:
Genesis 1:1-2:25
1 Samuel 3: 7-15
2 Kings 6:8-12
Acts 9:11-12
Matthew 16:16
John 1:1-3
Acts 5:3-4
Ephesians 3

Recently while holding a meeting I ask if anyone wanted to make certain of their salvation. Four men raised their hands. As I prayed with them for their salvation, I suddenly saw a physical manifestation on the face of one of these men. After the prayer I confronted him with this information. Yes he said you're correct, I thought I was saved, but after praying that prayer I was suddenly flooded with what I now know is the indwelling Holy Spirit.Herb that was a word of knowledge.

My question is what exactly is the word of knowledge? Where is this doctrine found in the bible? If it can't be found in the bible, then is it not a false doctrine?

Moderator - It is one of the nine Spiritual Gifts that are laid out in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12.

Word of Knowledge , Knowledge-Strongs 1108 general intelligence ,understanding,Root Word- Strongs 1097 learn , know ,get a knowledge of , perceive , feel ,have knowledge of . Which is exactly what I said happens to me . Rarely does a Word of Knowledge have anything to do with the Bible since it is about people-in general not specific, though it could be,events in the World , or could be church , not Scripture, no way it could line up with the Bible other than the way it is given , with fear of God .

Moderator- I agree that it God who is in control, but does the bible say about tongues that they spoke as God gave them utterance? Then how can people speak in tongues at the drop of a hat under there own will. If we have prophets and words of knowledge, today, then how come the bible is no long being written with all this new revelation.

Moderator - The Words of Knowledge today better 100% line up with the scripture or the person is a false prophet. However, experience shows me the person is usually doing a work of the flesh ie it's out of their own mind and not a work of the Holy Spirit or a work of a demon. Many Christians have not been taught the Word of God in the proper use of Spiritual Gifts and then misuse them which I know has been your observation.

Mima ,many times . Word of knowledge is God showing something that you could not have known in the Natural . It's sometimes Prophetic in nature ,or it is knowledge about something in someone's life . I believe the purpose is to be in prayer about whatever it is . It is part of Body ministry to support another believer and lift them up in prayer . It is sometimes in a Parable, a feeling/knowing , and often I see pictures of it happening with the eye of the Spirit in my mind . Always I pray .

I would be interested in knowing what the words in 1 Peter 2:24 mean to some of you. If the Bible states "by his wounds that you have been healed", does that not mean that healing IS God's Will? The New Testatment is God's "Last WILL and Testament" to us. God wants us to put our faith in what He says and according to this verse Jesus paid the price for our healing. So why can't we be confident that healing is His will?

My Study Bible describes "The Word of Knowledge" in 1 Corinthians 12:8 as this:

The word of knowledge is a supernatural revelation of information pertaining to a person or an event, given for a specific purpose, usually having to do with an immediate need.

Not everyone is physically healed on earth. I see no example of this in scripture, but it happens in everyday life. For some, it means the ultimate healing- on the other side of the clouds. For others, it may be healing of the spirit. Thru an encounter with the Great Physician, a person mean & sour in spirit, unwilling to accept his lot in life, may be made kind and gentle in spirit, yet not be physically healed. There is more than one healing.

Thank you moderator for explaining the part that you did on your answer. I have been saying that people are beginning to think they can just will anything and it will happen. Man in control and not God. A false doctrine that is taught by Word Faith teachers, and many believe it already. We are to pray for the will of God, not ours.
---Lupe2618 on 1/19/06

Moderator, it is the will of God for every man to be healed. Many use "the will of God" as an excuse for not putting forth their faith. Hosea 4:6 says, " My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;" Some don't know that it's the will of God for everyone to be healed.(IPeter 2:24; 3John2) True, it is His, the Holy Spirit, Who disperses His gifts as He wills, but we can lay hands on the sick and they recover as we will. We can speak the Word and folks get healed.

Moderator - "they recover as we will" - That is false doctrine. We are to lay hands on the sick and pray for healing. 100% of the people will not be healed because the Holy Spirit is in charge of the outcome not us. We are just to obey. Read the Book of James. The scripture you quoted is out of context as the Word of Faith doctrine teaches it.

But all of those gifts are not permeate. Some of them were temporary. Many of there gifts ceased after the death of the apostles. Why did Paul not heal Timothy instead of telling him to take a little wine for his stomach sake?

Moderator - Paul couldn't heal Timothy unless that was the will of God. Obviously, it was not the will of God for Timothy to be healed with the laying on of hands as outlined in the Book of James. God is in control of the use of all the Spiritual Gifts not man. When man trys to put himself in control that is when the fake miracles start.
