Is Having Money Bad

Job 21:13 reads They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. This seems to be speaking to the ungodly who put money before all else but could it also be a warning to Christians? Is it wrong for a Christian to be wealthy?

Moderator - No, it our heart relationship to the money. Money itself is neither good or bad.

part 2) It's a simple fact that the resources in this world are sufficient that noone should starve, certainly God is sufficient, but our sin, greed, selfishness is the true reason there is poverty. Noone wants to disturb their comfort zone, and in USA especially, the idol of pleasure is worshipped. More $ goes to entertainment then health care etc etc

part 1) where are heart is, there will our treasure be. what we do with our money is a true indicator of what is in our hearts. It all belongs to God, yet few view it this way. He who has been given much, much will be expected of. God expects us to give. All that wwe have ought to be for His glory.

1 Timothy 6:17-18 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;exzucuh

I do not think it is wrong to have money. We have to be responsible for what we do with it (not getting into debt). Is it not God that provides all our needs? I found that God promoted me in the workplace, and as He promoted me I prospered financially. This way I could give more monetary proceeds to ministries that send forth the Gospel.

There is nothing wrong with having money. Some Christians feel it's wrong because of what Christ stated about "the eye of the needle." The unfortunate part is at one time most Christians didn't know the true meaning of the "eye of the needle". Having money may be harder because there is a tendency to want to put your trust in the money rather than Christ. It's more the attitude that really counts. A person can be poor, but lust after money, which is just as sinful.

Having money in itself is not's what we do with it that is IS VERY wrong for a christian to keep wealth to himself..

We are fortunate not to be in want, but we do not squander money either. We don't lust after, or LOVE money. God has led us to make wise investments and be able to live comfortably. That also puts a burden on us to share with others in every way we can. God has blessed us to be able to be a blessing to others. I am humbled that God trusts us to share with others, we won't abuse His trust.

It is not wrong to be wealthy as long as the money is earned the good way: that is you did not "step on" the rights of others, you did not usurp the opportunities given to all mankind, and you did not destroy the environment just for you to have that money.

p.m. there was recently an article in the Dallas Morning News about charitable giving. The statistics were taken from the IRS aggregate files. It was interesting that the richest in this country gave the least percentage wise. Those earning over $250K gave an average of $7K, around 3%. Those earning the least give 11% of their gross. Unfortunately, greed is endemic in our Christian nation. In case anyone wants to know, I am a mid level bureaucrat and I give about 12% of my gross.

There is nothing wrong with Christians being wealthy. It's how you priortize and use the wealth that may be wrong. In Luke 18:25 we read where it is easier for a Camel to go through an eye of a needle than for the rich to go to heaven, but they can go to heaven IF their riches don't take priority over their Christian experience.

It is wrong for a Christian to be jealous of those who are wealthy.
---A_Catholic on 1/29/06

Is not wrong to be wealthy but it is wrong not to realize the source of that wealth is God. Realizing the source of our wealth we should allocate and spend it accordingly . 1

It's what you use it for that makes the difference. Extending the hand to the poor is a blessing.

No, Being wealthy is not wrong. It is wrong when the money and pocessions are more important to someone, than God and others. 1Timothy 6:10 1John 3:17
