I Must Stop Smoking
I need to stop smoking and can't do it. I know all things are possible through Christ. Why can't I lay this habit down? I feel sick when I think about stopping! I agree that it's like Jesus smoking a cigarette. That, in itself, should make me stop.

Ask the Lord to help you quit. I was a smoker when I re committed my life to the Lord.I struggled. I would leave church, go home and smoke and smoke. I was getting more and more disgusted with my lack of self-control. I knew it was wrong to be smoking and messing up my temple. It was also dangerous to my health. I was re-baptized, went down in the water. Never smoked from that day. Has been smoke-free 7 yrs now. God took it.....thank you Jesus. I'm free!

That nicotine gum helped me for a while, but then I realized it's just like smoking a ciggerette almost! But I did cut down an whole lot, it helped to cut down from a pack a day to only about 3 ciggs a day. But I am afraid I'll only start to smoke more and more...this indeed is one prayer I pray for God to help me with.

Mary, the world cannot be overcome of our own power. You must pray for God to give you the ability to quit. Ask Him to fill you with His self-control and His grace. Pray and believe God will free you from this bondage. This is a job for the Holy Spirit. Remmeber that. God bless.

Mary, pray this prayer and have faith.
Lord God, I pray that you give me the strength to say no to cigarettes. I ask of you to fill me up with your self-control,your goodness, your love and your Grace. Give me a new heart that says no to cigarettes and yes to freedom. Please, love me and continue helping me everyday to quit. I ask this in Jesus' name.

See your doctor about getting on the patch or using nicotine gum to wean yourself off the nicotine. Nicotine is one of the most powerfully addictive drugs there are. Also, contact the American Cancer Society about joining a group for people trying to quit. There are support groups out there.

I know how you feel, I feel the exact same way you do, I smoke, but I love God and know all things are possible through Christ, you sound as desparate as I am, so lets pray and agree in prayer that through jesus christ the urge to smoke can be taken away, that God can be our strength and our focus, lets pray to be delivered from those overwhelming physical withdrawls, and psycological addictions, lets trust God to do a miracle and believe God for freedom, God is our only escape, in jesus name, amen

Hi Mary, First, I read 2 of Alan Carr's books (please google). These attacked every stupid argument and lie we hold onto to maintain addiction. Also, a day when there was not enough money to both feed my family and smoke. My youngest son offered to give me all the money in his bank a/c. The offer was innocently unconditional and I knew it was possible I would smoke up his savings. It was my baby's love that cracked the code; as it is our Father's love that works when we trust.

Confess the smoking to the Lord as being sin and ask Him to forgive you. Jesus took your smoking on the Cross.

I wish you well
In your struggle
To be addiction free
If you fail, then try
Nobody claims it to be easy
But for the sake of living
It is worth it to be

Reiter; It is not that simple for one just to quit. Some people can throw their addiction down and walk away without any trouble. some can't. Like myself. I am taking medication pills to help me stop smoking.

Step on it
Step on it
Step on it
Take your addiction
And step on it
Take it down
Put it out
Now Be Free

Better yet, keep repeating "I WILL quit with help from my Jesus!' When I smoked, I used to have the recurring thought that when I got to heaven God would ask me WHY I had ruined my 'original equipment' that He gave me! Cough, Cough!

The actual addiction to nicotine is only 48 hours. Your body purges itself of the nicotine in your system. After that, it's all mental. So as you have said in your blog: "I NEED" to stop, start by re-phrasing it as: "I WANT" to stop.

The best way is cold turkey/ forget all the self help stuff, psychosis, hypnosis. REALLY seek God to intervene and mean it/ it is hard,at first, but with each sucessful denial, there is victory.I do know how hard it is, but when this habit is broken, God can , and does work in a clean vessel.. ALL things ARE possible, believe it and receive it.. I have never looked back, and I had 30 years of it,i will now have all my future years smoke free... Praise Jesus.. This was a huge victory.. Bless you.

I had a grad school professor who quit by going to Narcotics Anonymous. A drug is a drug. An addiction is an addiction. The only requirement for membership is the desire to quit using the substance you are addicted to.

I smoke, and the LORD has had me cut down to 10 a day.

My friend smoked for 15 years, tried to quit and failed many times. Just recently, she heard God tell her to throw the cigarettes away. She struggles every day, but she has been smoke free for 3 weeks! What she did was called a bunch of us from church day and night whenever she had a craving. We just sat and talked to her until the craving passed. I suggest you do that. Get a support group of friends who agree to be there for you. I'm praying for you!

Go to a Alcoholic anonymous meeting or a narcotics anonymous meeting. That's how I quit, and met Gods miracles in person.

Try Zyban. They work on the brain to reduce the urge for cigs. You have to have a bit of will power also.

Up until recently, it was said that you cannot wear a nicotine patch or chew nicotine gum and smoke at the same time. Last month, Duke University released a study they did with half the people wearing patches, chewing gum and smoking. And other half just wearing patches or chewing gum only. The half that continued to smoke with patches or gum had a 56% higher sucess rate of quiting than just patches or gum. Without additional affects.

It is a hard habit to break, believe me I know. The reason why you can't lay this habit down is because truely inside you don't want to. Self-consciencely you think what am I going to do without it, will I gain wait? I agree it is a nasty habit, but remember God can't help you quit until you help yourself and by that I mean lay them down, walk away and pray without ceasing. Everytime you think of a cigarette, pray or sing a gospel song, keep your mind upon the Lord.

When I began smoking, there was nothing wrong with it, or at least we didn't know about it. It didn't even stink back then. I did quit with nicorette gum. Boy, do I feel good now. My clothes even smell good. I don't know how long you have smoked, but they will hurt you if you don't quit. People from my generation who smokes are dying or dead or can't breathe and they stink, but most of all they are dying.

Pray about it, and seriously ask the Lord to help you quit, and he will.
