The answer to your question can be found in Judges chapter 6, the story of Gideon. Look closely at Gideon's questions and what he said in verse 15.

What do you mean by asking where these signs are?

Remember, that Jesus said, "An evil generation seeks after a sign."

I think that the most important things when dealing with a sign are these:

1. What doctrine comes with the sign?
2. What is the fruit of the sign in the lives of the people involved?

To Rebecca D., Sit down under the shadetree, lean back and have a cig before you blow a gasket, hun. I appreciate the feedback.
---Thomas on 3/29/06

If you dont think we need tongues then we don't need Jesus Because he is the Holy spirit and he said he would send us a comforter back and he did He sent his Spirit Back

Thomas; It sounds like you just want to argue on this with Shira. Because when she expained to you what she meant, you downed her for believing that way. and 5 days had passed and she didn't say anything but you kept on. So what is the deal with you keep replying to something that she has already explained?

Shari, Has blindness set in you?
---Thomas on 3/28/06

To Shari, Take off those blinders, hun, you need to see those pitfalls and if your in the ditch, struggle to get out. I am afraid hun you'll start drinking poison and hopping around with snakes next. Pentesostal or charasmatic

In ACTS 2:22 Scripture states that God used miracles, wonders and signs to show his approval of Jesus.

Speaking in tongues is not an intercession on things we don't know what to pray for. It is a gift from God, when a person speaks in tongues their spirit is speaking directly to God. Ulrika; Why don't you believe there isn't a need to speak in tongues? There are peoplw who prophecy when speaking in tongues, when someone needs a word from God, God uses a person whom has this gift and gives a word that is needed. How can the Holy Spirit be taken out? Out of what, this world? Or out of the people?
---Rebecca_D on 3/23/06

Jesus said except you see signs and wonders you won't beleive. Mt 24:3-30, the disciples asked Jesus what the signs are of when he is coming back. Mt 13:4-37, Jn 4:48. These people asked for signs from God, Abraham, Moses, Gideon, Hezekiah, Zacharias. Signs are needed today, but not for something like, Lord give me a sign if I can't buy this car. Asking like that would be absurd.

To Shari, The Lord said if the blind lead the blind both will fall into a ditch. Watch your step Shari, and be careful you don't fall into a deep ditch.
---Thomas on 3/23/06

Dearest Thomas; I didn't compare you to Thomas. Your name just happens to be the same and that was not the intent hun. I thought I made it clear I do NOT follow signs but that SIGNS f-o-l-l-o-w FAITH. And I must say I find it intriguing that one would try to intruct one on tongues when the one being instructed does indeed speak in tongues and knows about it. I hope this clears this up dear. May God bless you.

Shari, Tongues were languages that were unknown (foriegn languages) to person speaking, it was through the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:4-11
Holy Spirit makes intercession for us for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26,27
---Ulrika on 3/23/06

To Shari, Follow the signs if you must, my faith is all I need. What does scripture say of those that seek after signs but if that makes you feel better---------- Don't compare me with apostol Thomas!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
---Thomas on 3/23/06

Dearest Thomas; I did not say I needed signs or try to discourage them. The word of God is clear in that signs will follow (not come before) for those who believe and one is speaking in tongues dear. Doubting Thomas was told "Blessed" are those who have not seen, yet believe. All of the signs I have seen have followed my faith and not come prior hun. I hope this clears up any misconception.
---Shari on 3/23/06

Shari, Jesus said that not to discourage signs but because the people asked for more signs when he had performed them and the Son of God was standing in their presence. We are told to ask for signs (Rom 15:4 'Gideon'). To say that is to ignore the original context like not helping the poor because NT says 'you will always have the poor.' The NT quote for poor is Deut 15:11 and its context is verses 1-11.

To Shari, You don't need signs, all you need is faith. People seek signs to make themselves feel better.
---Thomas on 3/22/06

Speaking in tongues (not prophesying in tongues) is when the Spirit makes intercession as we know not what to pray for. The unseen things, the word, leading and such dear. Some of us have seen signs that our precious Lord did but don't mention them because rather than hear and draw closer to our Lord, most end up mocking our precious pearl of great price. And then wonder why they don't see them. If you seek, you shall find. He truly is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him hun.

#3 signs today
I don't believe there is a need to speak in an unknown language, if there is no one around that speaks that language. I am not saying it is not possible. I have not seen any of the miracles like what Jesus and his disciples did. I have heard the Holy Spirit will gradually be taken out. I don't know, if and when that happens.
---Ulrika on 3/22/06

#2 God's approval of the disciples
Acts 2: 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 22
Peter and John in the name of Jesus healed a lame man. Acts 3:1-8 / 5:12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; 15,16

The signs should follow dear. Too many are seeking signs today. Our precious Lord said an adulterous and sinful nation seeketh a sign and the only one given would be that of Jonah. If you can't see the signs hun, maybe you need to look at yourself in self-evaluation. The signs are there and those who love the Lord with all their heart can see them.

#1.God's approval of Jesus
Mark 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: 11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thow art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Mark 9:7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
