God Hear Prayers Of Sinners

Does God hear prayers of those not saved? For instance, when someone prays for someone else who is sick (or when someone is sick and prays for themselves), but that is the only time they have ever prayed. Does the fact that they are praying mean they are saved?

.larry, Yet Holy Scripture declares: "But your wrongs are separating between you and your God, and your sins have hidden face from you, THAT HE WILL NOT HEAR. Now we know that GOD HEARS NOT SINNERS: but if any person be a worshipper of God, and does his will, that person he hears." Isaiah 59:2+ John 9:31.

***He redeemed all men from their sins.***

Frances, NO HE did not. You fail to understand John 3:16 for starters, WHO SO EVER must believe in Him... AND not head knowledge here....

But what MUST they believe?

Not just anything.....some believe He was a good man...a great teacher, a great example, etc...that will not save anyone!!!
---kathr4453 on 11/6/08

.duane, as I corrected you before for your misjudgment, so I correct you again, the saint is not the sinner. Since I am a born-again Christian, I am not able to receive your falsehood. You speak falsehood, because there is no light in you. And until you get saved, instead of the truth you will hear what you desire to hear, and believe what you desire to believe, and say whatever you desire to say.
---Eloy on 11/6/08

.donna, repentance is indeed an earning and therefore is rewarded, just as nonrepentance is an earning and therefore is also rewarded. you choose which you "earn", you chooses which you "serve", you choose which you "work", and subsequently you choose "salvation" or else you choose "damnation". This tired and old falsehood of no works will save is straight from hell, and all whom believe this lie will end up perishing in their works of sin which they have earned for themself. Bottom line is, if you do nothing at all for God, then you receive nothing at all from God but damnation for your disobedience.
---Eloy on 11/6/08

The light is not in you. What must a man do to be saved? Believe on HIM. We are saved through faith. You havent repented as long as you dont believe this. Jesus Christ took sin away but you dont seem to believe this. Its finished.
Repent(turn to Christ).. Be dead to sin.Be made righteous. Human effort will not get you saved.
---duane on 11/6/08

Christ died for all men, for their sins. He died because man could not see that he was God, otherwise they would never have killed him. He redeemed all men from their sins. If they continue to sin after knowing this, there is no more hope for them unless they repent and throw themselves at his mercy, and be forgiven. Those who are by nature good, do not go to Hell. They are judged by Jesus and rewarded for the good they did. Because they never knew Jesus this will not count against them.. Only rejecting of Jesus or wilful disobedience counts against a person.
---frances008 on 11/6/08

Easy answer: of course God hears the prayers of those not saved, he just isn't moved to rescue those who pray without faith. God hears all.
God heard 400 years of prayers by Hebrew slaves under Egypt, but he wasnt moved to free the slaves until the prayers of faith by Moses who even God had to prepare over a 40 year journey of humility and faith.
God hears but is not motivated by our condition, he is motivated by faith. The acceptance of Christ as our personal savior is the first act of faith, thus God responds to the repentant sinner who believes (faith) that God is who he is.
---larry on 11/5/08

Eloy :- Repentance is sorrow and the 'most important ingredient' for God to show His mercy and ultimate forgiveness. The gravity of the sin is also a necesary important factor.Works is a side product of Faith, which we administer as it shows love of God which he aske of us, when he commands,"love one another as I have loved You".so works counts as well.Man is prone to sin, by attraction of the things of this world, but for a simple transgression God will not send you to Hell, but you will pay the price as He says.Hell is meant for those who deny God in totality disobeying Him and doing things contrary to His teachings. In short they deny and defy God.Rejecting His love .
---Mic on 11/5/08

Eloy ---
Does the fact that I repent earn me
eternal life? Is it not God's MERCY that once I repent, he forgives me and accepts me as His own?

Does my repentance compare in any way to the sacrifice of God's Son on my behalf?
That is why I say God gives us something for (comparatively) "nothing".
---Donna66 on 11/5/08

.donna, no, Salvation is never something for nothing, but rather salvation costs everything, else you have no salvation. donna, if you do not repent, then you get zero from God, nothing. You see the sinner is already condemned, but if the sinner repents tghen God can save them, and never before. The workless, and fruitless tree is condemned and not save. The false doctrine of salvation without works is straight from hell and many have gone down to hell receiving this delusion. Christ rewards each according to their works, not according to their nonworks. he workless tree is thrown into hell and destruction and not as the Enemy says, rewarded paradise.
---Eloy on 11/4/08

duane, you blaspheme because there is no light in you. If you continue to believe your lie, that all mankind is saved and going to heaven, which is the opposite of what Christ promised that he made a heaven AND A HELL AND DOES COUNT SINS AGHAINST NONREPENTED SINNERS (READ- Matthew 25), then you will continue to be condemned in this life and in the life to be.
---Eloy on 11/4/08

God must love sinners, for while we were yet sinners, HE died for us. HE died so sinners could come before God in prayer for salvation. God reconciled the world to Himself, through Christ, not counting mens sins against them.
God is now at peace with all mankind because of the Cross.
---duane on 11/4/08

When the Lord saves us, doesn't He give us "something for nothing"?. In my many years as a Christian, God has always given me MORE blessings than I deserve.
---Donna66 on 11/3/08

No. Sinners always wanting something for nothing. Faith without works is dead. God says, Love me, then I will bless you: God does Not say, Love me not, then I will bless you. If you are at peace with God, then God will hear your prayer and answer them, but if you are not right with God, then God will not care about any thing at all that you have to say. He is God, his Command is to get right with him, Then he will hear, but not before.
---Eloy on 11/3/08

Since God is omnipotent, I believe He knows the hearts (and prayers) of men. Many people, after being saved, look back and see how, gradually, but surely, the Lord led them to people and experiences that finally brought them to saving faith.

Probably the most common prayer of all is something like "God, show me if you are real". If that prayer is sincere, do you think God ignores it?

I know of more than one instance when an unbeliever, in hopes God would hear, prayed earnestly for something that seemed unlikely... they saw their prayer answered and then turned in gratitude to accept Jesus as their Saviour.
---Donna66 on 11/3/08

If God heard sinners pray other than repenting for sins and accepting Christ - why would we need to be saved? Yes Jesus came and died for sinners - and it wasn't until I acknowledged my sin and confessed them to God and turned away from them that God heard me -- David said in Psalms if I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me -

No, it does not mean they are saved. God will not listen to anyone in praying if He has not saved them. You would be waisting your time. Talking to God is only for His people.
---catherine on 7/21/08

The saved are no longer referred to as sinners, but as saints, righteous, and/or holy. Eph 4:24 states "and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness" (NKJV). Also, Romans 6:18 states "And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness" (NKJV). The saved may still commit sins, but are not called sinners.

I don't assert on my own accord that God does not hear a sinner's prayer. I refer to the written Word of God that says it. I cannot argue against it.
---Nicole on 7/21/08

I wasn't saved when I prayed this prayer: God if you give me someone who loves me for me, I'll give you my heart. That was answered by God in 1980. I didn't get saved until 1983. If God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and sovereign and His Spirit is everywhere, HOW can you say God doesn't hear the prayers of those not saved?? He hears ALL prayers. What if he didn't answer my unsaved prayer? In 1983 God reminded me of my part of the deal and I gave Him my heart and here it is 25 years later, I'm going strong for the Lord, and have been prophesied over that my seed is called to be mighty in this land. I have not compromised the word of God ever. And I won't...I love Him too much.

NO! He does not. He does not know you. You can pray, you will be praying to a deaf God. Now this: We are to hate the very ground that the wicked man walks on. We are to hate the very clothes the wicked man wears on his body. We are to hate the devil who lives inside the wicked man with everything that is in us. You want to be like Jesus? HATE! Never hate the man. Only the ground and the clothes that he walks on and he wears. Thank you Jesus.++

In answering this question, one must look to the written Word of God for answers. The following is a list of scriptures that address the issue. Please read at least five verses before and after to gain the full context of the passages: Job 27:9, Psalm 18:41, Psalm 66:18, Proverbs 1:28, Proverbs 15:29, Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Jeremiah 11:11, Ezekiel 8:18, Micah 3:4, Zechariah 7:13 and James 5:16.

John 9:31 is a clear statement on God not hearing the prayer of sinners. To refute the meaning of this verse and say that God hears all prayers is compromising the Word of God. Either you believe in God's Word, or you don't. We work toward our own spiritual death by changing the meaning of the scripture to suit our desires.
---Nicole on 7/18/08

John 9:31."We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will."
1)People quote this as if Jesus was speaking, it was the blind man. He isn't an apostle or an expert on doctrine.
2)People quote this verse as if it were directed at someone that is "sinning" or "away from God"
3)The man is defending Jesus, building an argument that although the Pharisees say Jesus is a sinner, a false prophet, it cannot be true. He is making the point, if Jesus was a liar how could he POSSIBLY have done what he did (not to mention all the other things Jesus was doing). Jesus was well known by everyone and his healing was supernatural and undisputeable.
4)Find another verse.

EXCELLENT response Dottie.

If someone believes they are exalted over another, it is sin. If someone believes they have a corner on loving God, they are incorrect. If someone believes they are expert in knowing God, they have a lot to learn.

If someone believes God hates, they are completely incorrect. God IS love. PS All people are going to heaven--all--many just don't have a clue yet.

Post Your Virtual Prayer Requests

I believe God hears the prayers of sinners. We all were sinners, at one point in our lives(to the saved) These are the ones Jesus died for. When one's life is given to the Lord, you were still a sinner and so was everyone else, who claims to be born again now. When you repented, sincerely,God heard your prayer, and forgave ,all your sins. If that did not happen,we are not really christians and were not truly born again,by faith.
---Robyn on 4/8/08

God hates the prayers, lifting of hands, of unbelievers. No God does not know you and does not listen to you.>>And for all true believers. if you do not get close to God and spend time with Him, He will not have time for you when you need Him.
---catherine on 4/3/08

Well, Yes...God hears prayers. And No, it does not mean that they are saved. Children pray, sinners pray, even non-believers sometimes pray... it is not until you have accepted Christ into your life and been washed clean of your sin are you saved. But as for praying...He hears all. Just because he answers with a "No." at times doesn't mean he's not listening.
---Debbie on 4/3/08

No just because someone prays doesn't mean they're saved. The Bible is very plain in stating Christians can only reach God through the mediator Jesus Christ. Since we don't receive Christ until we accept Him as the son of God,repent of sins, and live according to the Bible, then there would be no access for sinners, except to repent of sins, since they haven't accepted Christ. 1 Tim2:5 For there is one God,and one mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus.

Let me ask you a question, Do you believe God heard King David? He was a sinner, and not cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Abraham was a sinner, he disobeyed God more then once, Do you believe God heard his prayers? Remember GOD sees your heart, we can only see the outward. Except when answers get vicious, and we see much.
---pgfdottie on 4/2/08

The bible says that God doesn't hear sinners unless they are calling to him to be saved. And even at that, they must first be under conviction. John 9:31-41. If a sinner asks God to help them for whatever reason, God doesn't hear that because they are none of his. When one gets converted over to Christ (by conviction first then asking to come into their life), then God will hear them when they pray.

The Lord is able to hear every word, every breath spoken toward Him.
You must understand semantics and the intent of language - God is not inclined toward the unsaved but if He didn't hear their prayers why would anyone be saved?

You only have to hear gut-wrenching prayer requests to know that many prayers are not being answered, year after year.

Absolutely no. And God does not hear the prayers of the unsaved. Only a sinners prayer when He leads you into salvation and everlasting life with Him. You are praying to a dead god. Your own imagination. It's being done all over this world. Save your breath your god can do nothing for you.

I beleive that God hears all prays because he is all knowing. He searches 'sheart to see if there is any good in them. When it comes to being saved, no one is saved unless they search their heart and expose all sin and totally repents of that sin. Then accept Jesus as their personal savior and live a life that is Christ-like, then you are saved.

John 9:31 "Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth."

When a person is saved, God sees said person as righteous because: "...the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." -1 John 1:7b
---Tom on 7/17/07

Good people if you read the entire passage of John 9 you'll find that the statement came from the pharisees. They called Jesus a sinner for healing the blind man on the Sabbath, thus THEY said he was a sinner. Thus the man replied to them stating whether he's a sinner or not he got my eyes opened and therefore if he was a sinner God wouldn't use him to heal me, thus he must be of God. We take scripture out of context because we don't allow the real teacher The Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to us.

Noway does praying mean someone is saved. We have a world full of people, and they are always praying, but only when something really bad happens; Then everybody is a believer. "I will pray for you". You hear this alot. Lost as a four dollar bill. We have to be so careful and not be deceived. I mean, everybody is a Christian, right, if you ask them. Yes sir, I am a Christian. The mess that this world is in, I know differently.
---catherine on 6/6/07

How can a person take this verse out of context? Now we know that God heareth not sinners: BUT if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, HIM HE HEARETH. This tells us if a person is calling out to God to save them, he will hear them. BUT if that person is not calling out to God to save them, God doesn't hear them. A christian's prayers comes from the heart, but if someone is sinner or a backslider, their prayers comes from thier lips only. This is a simple verse to understand.
---Rebecca_D on 6/5/07

I agree Catherine. many love quoting out of context, even though hundreds of verses say the opposite. Many have said God does not hear the prayers of sinners. Why? Did Jesus himself not say,"If ye say ye have no sin, ye deceive yourselves and the truth is not in you." Our prayers come from the heart, not the lips or mind. I have seen many offer silent prayers to God, and not belong to any church ever. Many love to profess the word, but their actions are deafening in defiance of Jesus Christ.

ashley, I will tell you why people take the Bible out of context. Everyone believes they no everything all though most are not even saved; So therefore they won't use commentaries, so therefore what do we have; A BIG MESS .
---catherine on 6/3/07

Why do so many take verses out of context and say they are truth. I read the whole chapter of John 9 and as usual people have twisted it to suit their own dilusions. The people at the time were talking about the law of Moses and that they were taught God does not hear their prayers and what did Jesus tell them. read the rest of the chapter for the answer. anyone can take a verse out of context to prove a point. even satan knows the bible inside and out. why do you think he can deceive many so easily.
---ashley on 6/2/07

2- Jesus said he does not listen to the vain words of man. He hears what is said with the heart. He knows what is being said before you open your mouth in prayer. You cannot take one verse literally or you deny the whole picture. that is satan's greatest tool. blind many to the bible but promote one verse out of context to deceive many. Many deny john 10:34. Jesus says is it not written I said ye are Gods. people attack that one because it goes against their beliefs. It is in the bible too.

No it does not mean they are saved. In order to be saved, we must be willing to have Jesus as Lord of our lives not a genie in a bottle to call on in a pinch. The scribes and pharasies did lots of praying but they were still lost.

The very first prayer that God hears and answers of every human being is the sinners' prayer when one gets saved. The fact that someone is praying does not mean they are saved. Obviously God hears every thing even every word. but the meaning of "hear" is used to show a pre existing connected relationship between God and the person seeking to submit to God his or her siituation and/or circumstances in a way that glorifies and honors God as the end all of "all" hope, expectations and deliberations. Are you his? then he knows your cry has heard it before will hear it again. Are you surrendering to him the care and rule of your life and soul then he hears you!
---Travis on 8/13/06

I believe what everyone is forgetting is that God is Sovereign. Please don't put Him in a box. He hears and knows and understands all things. In the Scriptures He is represented as God Almighty, who sits upon the throne of universal dominion. He knows the end from the beginning and the means to be used in attaining that end. He is able to do for us exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or even think Nothing is out of His sight. Remember, His nature never changes.

I doubt if there is anybody in the world who hasn't prayed to whomever they believe God to be... or, just in case Somebody is out there to listen! Remember the Greeks who prayed "to an unknown God"? I believe God hears, even uses, misdirected prayers to open the hearts of those who sincerely seek One whom they can believe. I've heard of more than one lost soul in a remote area, totally ignorant of the Gospel, who has prayed to know the truth and then had Christian missionaries come to them.

I used to pray conditional prayers before I was saved. Some of the things that I prayed about turned out good... could have been natural outcome or God's help, who knows. I never lived up to my end of the bargain. Later, I finally gave myself to the Lord but not to fulfill an agreement. It hit me like some sort of revelation from no where. Must have been the Holy Spirit opening my heart. Now that I am saved, I never pray with conditions, but for his will rather than for my sake alone.

God doesn't like being used. Meaning the only time some people want anything from God is when a sickness comes on or they "need" something from God and when things are going good, they don't even call upon God for anything. My way of thinking is if you can't call on God during the good times then it isn't right to call upon him during the bad times. Debbie has said, This woman prays when she wants something from God, to me she is just using God as a crutch. And that isn't good and it is wrong.
---Rebecca_D on 4/22/06

..Rebecca is right. Generally there are the children of God, and the children not of God. Many times the unsaved will call to God whom they are separated from because they need his help. God hears them but he does not listen nor answer them until they become his. When a child is being raised by his parents, he does not go to some other parent and ask to be cared for, but rather goes to his own parent for help; neither does some other parent care for someone elses children, but rather cares for his own.

We need to understand what we mean when we say "hear" for God hears every one in the sense of knowing, listening, for He is all-present. When the prophets said He would not hear or hearken to their prayers because they regarded iniquity in their heart, they were saying that He could not answer their prayers as they desired Him to do.

As to answering the prayers of the unsaved, God is no respecter of persons. He is able to answer prayers of any person as He sees best.
